A lot of the ammo counts were extremely high considering the size and assumed capacity of the weapon. You're probably supposed to assume that they reload every once in a while, like in the newer AC games, even if it's not shown in-game.
>>
>>14969781
Yeah about that. I hated that. They could have just made better and more interesting weapons in Nexus and forward but instead they redid everything and made it more tedious and less fun.
>>
>>14969784
I agree. I felt that Silent Line was the absolute apex of the series, and everything plummeted after that.

Minvosky flight systems use the repulsive forces generated by I-fields for a sort of electromagnetic levitation. That said, there should be some pressure on the things beneath the ship. When it's flying high the footprint could be spread out, but close to the ground it would be pushing down with nearly as much force as if it was resting directly on it.

>>14969777
Realistically speaking the size of the bullets would not scale up at the same rate as the gun. Most mecha franchises either give guns absurd calibers, or draw the barrels disproportionately larger than the specified caliber. It's not inconceivable that a mech sized gun could be mostly empty space and contain a large internal magazine.

The guns in MuvLuv for instance held like, 1400 20mm rounds or something. The real wonder is how they didn't jam considering the shape of the magazines. Rather than a sensible dum style magazine like you would find on an aircraft, the belt was folded several times into a box magazine.

Correction, 2000 36mm chaingun rounds in a P90 style magazine, which folds back upon itself several times, and 6 120mm rounds.

From the looks of things, the barrels of both guns are drawn larger than that, and the 120mm magazine could probably hold more than 6 rounds.

The gun in the OP is from AC3 or Silent Line, I forget which (since everything from AC3 carries over into SL). Reloading wasn't a thing until Nexus, which came out right after Silent Line.

Now, there was a machine gun in the original trilogy that had 1000 rounds, but it also had a gigantic magazine hanging under it.
>>
>>14971160
Do they say what caliber it is? Because as >>14971014 illustrates, it's very easy to fit thousands of small caliber cannon rounds in a mech sized weapon. Guns don't scale up directly.

The part I had trouble with about those guns is the support version used by marksmen like Tama, since they're apparently exactly the same calibre as the regular gun but fire single shots, which makes no goddamn sense. They should never run out of ammo and never actually accomplish anything, given how many rounds the people with the standard version seem to need to use to put down BETA.

The 800 was the best machinegun, but before it was introduced in SL I was still more partial to the MG-500, and even after I'd still take it over a 1000. It might have had tons of ammo and high fire rate, but it was so piddly that you'd need that ammo to accomplish much. Plus, 1000 rounds at double the price of normal machinegun bullets is not the best option for the savvy mercenary.

>>14972706
Special ammo? As mentioned, the rounds for that gun were obscenely expensive for their type.

this gun.. or hand was broken as fuck, fires 5 times more bullets than your typical MG and shred shit in seconds, and it's fucking light too.

>>14972856
Even better combine it with the back magazine part. They hadn't quite figured out balancing that yet, so it was modestly heavy yet provided a whopping 50% increase in ammo, so when used with the 3000 round FINGER you'll have more bullets than you could ever possible need.

Square cube law. The armor on a humanoid fighting machine is going to be thinner than the armor on a tank, more comparable to an IFV, and could easily be penetrated with 30mm shells. These shells would be proportionally smaller to a giant robot than bullets are to humans.

Because of this, most giant robots are drawn carrying cannons which are unrealistically huge, because properly scaled weapons would look wrong. DESU even a 120mm cannon is going to look tiny when it's in the hands of a 18meter robot. IIRC, the guntank's cannons were bigger than the Yamato's.

>>14973239
This here is actually a good compromise, although I have mixed feelings on how practical it would be. Macross gunpods are probably the ones that make the most sense, the wrap around magazines on the VF-1 gunpod would probably make reloading a bitch though.

>>14972808
Yeah, trying to make mech guns behave like human guns usualy leads to absurdities. There isn't any reason to scale a bolt action rifle up to mech sizes without replacing it with an autocannon. Modern naval artillery is plenty accurate and capable of rapid fire.
>>
>>14972813
Wasn't the MG-500 the highest damage-per-bullet machinegun you could get?

That's the smart way to do things, or at least the way I do things. Low ammo reserves and low fire rate? Not a problem when it hits like a train and you try to make every bullet count.

If we go by Origin retelling and Mark Simmons' guesswork, they're for transmitting power around to different areas of the suit. The MS-04 Bugu achieves higher performance than the YMS-03 Waff through these extra cables providing for better maneuverability or some BS like that.

There's still no reasoning for transmitting power from the front of the head to the back, or vice versa.

Yeah because they took everything that made Armored Core fun and strapped limitations to it. Like pointless magazine system that slows shit down and stupid heat mechanics that didn't exist for like the past seven games in a row? I've never understood why Beam Rifles and the like in various mecha all have proportionately large targeting scopes. This rifle is 8 fucking meters long, in a world where modern video cameras exist and are not the size of an air conditioning unit. What justification could there be for a digital targeting camera being a foot and a half in diameter? Similar logic applies to the zeon mono eye, but is more easily explained away as being a large compound eye hooked up to the targeting computer and all its required systems on the track itself, kept separate from the systems that control the rest of the mecha in the actual cavity of the head.

A big, glowing eyeball probably has a short shelf life in active military service. It would be best to be able to remove the whole assembly for repairs and maintenance, or replacement in some cases, without having to dig around in the actual brains of the mech.
>>
>>14975014
>Anime made in the 70's adhering to modern tech.
>>
>>14975014
Maybe the beam rifle scopes are also entire sensor packages by themselves. Some beam guns have tiny or even no sensors at all and work just fine using only the sensors of the MS itself, but the larger and longer ranged weapons almost always have a large sensor package.

If we go by 08th MS Team, the beam rifle's scope does have an digital camera feed, but for whatever reason this feed is not piped to the cockpit display for ready viewing. They had to improvise a bypass to get the cockpit monitors to show the feed from the beam rifle camera. My guess is that the scope on the beam rifle is intended to be sent to some kind of battle/targeting computer for analysis rather than to show to the pilot. In a "fly by wire" digital cockpit that a mobile suit should have, everything should be running through computers - the computer should determine if the target is locked on rather than the pilot having to line up crosshairs by himself (but they do have the option if they want).

See, if you thought that the expenses suck? It was because you were using the 1000. It's designed to work by pouring a large number of weak shots downrange, but if you check the stats you'll realise that the ammunition is extortionately expensive, costing FAR more than rounds for either of the other machineguns, despite the fact that you're using much more of it. That's why the 1000 sucks, it burns a hole in your wallet and is very inefficient.

The 500, on the other hand, kills things real good. You said the point of the 1000 is that misses don't matter much? It's the same for every machinegun, they're all low impact high ROF. I would always spray wildly with the 500 and it always worked, it had enough ammo and power to be very effective. I never really ran out with it.

Compare the MG-250, which is almost as good...for like 20 seconds before the pathetic magazine runs dry.
