I guess I mean by that a series with flying vehicles rather than mecha, a mix of magic and technology, and fairly young protagonists.

It was a good episode. It established that sort of ancient mysticism that the second half of Oban explored, and really gave you a sense that there was some history behind this whole thing.

I wish some of the characters from S1 had shown up in S2 just watching the race or whatever though.

Anime is pretty sad in this regard, nobody really respects the medium enough to archive shows and do a regular re-release. Even the creators themselves just move on and forget about their old work.

Hell studios don't even sell the rights of old shows to some streaming network. So it all falls to pirates to do the job.

Doesn't help this industry is being funded by a few million otaku in Japan buying overpriced blurays.

There is a french DVD release which should be in a much better quality. But I didn't find any rip.
Plus there is only the french dub on those (which is the original dub, the japanese one came later) with no subs.
