Which is the best Astroboy series to watch nowadays? I heard the 60s one doesn't have full subs but the one from the 2000s is more kiddy than the previous ones. So is the 80s one the best one to go with?
You need to do a bit of searching (possibly on Piratebay) to get the uncut version of the first two episodes.

I know, but which series to go with if I want a fuller experience?
I read the manga and then watched the 2003 series because the animation is amazing. From what I've read the other two adaptations also don't follow the manga properly so I didn't bother with them. I'm kinda interested in checking out Jetter Mars because I remember watching some of it when I was a kid.
>>14966962
I heard that the 2003 show is one of the last shows animated mainly with traditional cels, in an era where digital was taking baby steps.
>>14966897
You kinda get something different out of each series, I couldn't recommend a single one.
I CAN just say "read the manga", though.
>>14966897
Just read the manga instead. Tezuka was much better at manga than anime, and the third anime was made after he was dead with lots of interference from American co-producers.
>>14966936
There's no such one. All three series are really different. They aren't three versions of the same story.

>lots of interference from American co-producers
It's funny how the 60s show pretty much had the first anime song with lyrics in history for the dub, while the 2003 version had its Japanese OP gutted out in favor of an instrumental one for the dub of that.

These scans are from those Dark Horse volumes, right?
>>14967481
>>14967482
I'm fairly certain that's the case, though some of the scans I have available aren't the best quality and some are even double pages instead of singles.
>>14967493
Additionally, I got them from an old /m/ thread that ordered the chapters chronologically

Chronological order for manga chapters in Dark Horse volumes btw. Was confused as fuck until I looked it up.
>>14967564
>>14967568
Not really Dark Horse's fault, since the original volumes were like that too. It was more of a collection of "the best stories"
>>14967575
>>14967581
>>14967575
So what's the complete complete collection if not the Dark Horse bunch? Or am I misunderdstanding, and the Dark Horse bunch is everything, and other volumes are just "the best".
>>14967583
>>14967585
The original collection started as a showcase of the best stories. But they kept publishing volume after volume since they sold rather well. Eventually they ended up publishing stories in a slightly more orderly fashion and ended up getting almost all stories in.
Later collections were in order. Dark Horse based theirs on the original.
IIRC.

I love the goofy designs for the monster robots. Also noticeable because it was okay to destroy monsters, not other humanoids. That would change.
>>14967540
Bless old Treasure, that was the best Astro game ever. It's a shame they're basically dead now.

I'd call this story transitional on account of the earlier stories being more "adventure-focused", while this one starts incorporating some political elements to it. Bluntly, but still.
Gotta love robot gore, too.

A guy who was so lazy he didn't even want to run his own campaign.
>>14967778
Too lazy to run a campaign, but motivated enough to make a robot modeled after himself? What a guy.
Thanks for the storytime! I was hanging on every page.
>>14967778
And that's that for a lengthy early story. I hope you all enjoyed it.
It has all the basic elements most Astro stories have. Mysteries, adventure, action, politics and of course, RACISM!
I think it's a good first view on what you might find in the Astro Boy manga. So be sure to check it out if this was interesting enough. A lot of wacky and sad stories to be enjoyed.
As for this one... You'll notice that Deadcross supposedly meant to destroy Rag's electronic brain, but then removed the part which... somehow survived the electrical discharge.
Maybe it was planned ahead so the story would have a happy ending. Maybe Tezuka just forgot! He was a very busy guy, after all.
This story was adapted in the series and it's also included in the GBA game they mentioned earlier. Themes-wise this one and Blue Knight are my favorites, so that's why I decided to spontaneously storytime it.

Omega Factor is best version of Astro Boy(also I tried watching Marine Express after reading how important it was for Omega Factor's overall plot and the specific versions of several characters used, but man it's kinda rough to watch)
>>14967800
On a related note, Dark Horse are still chugging along on their Astro releases.

Both this and vol. 7 are set to come out next year. That there is dedication, in the age of digital manga.
