By adjusting the levels you can actually tell that their designs are surprisingly detailed. I am super curious to what that's about, even if it was to ultimately end up being just being dropped aspects of the show.
There is still one more episode though. I am absolutely certain that Reoko and Kaoruko will interact again and that we'll get the meaning behind Kaoruko's name at the very least. But it will indeed be interesting to see if they ever address the figures from the opening.

Posted an archive of my bubuki folder with everything I gathered from pixiv, twitter and the threads excluding screencaps in the /a/ thread for the last episode. Can still find it on the board archive. If you only want the end cards check muh twitter derpomcherp. Wasn't really using it for anything so figured I'd convert it into an index for all bubuki art in there. That didn't really work out so well though since retweets get removed after a while apparently, but redid the S2 end cards recently so you only have to scroll a bit.

Having just marathoned the show I'm kind of surprised people are commenting on Migawa as a shitty parent and not her husband. Migawa was a shitty friend if anything, but a decent parent who on several occasions put her kids first and sacrificed to help them. Her husband though decided the best thing to do after a year or so of single parenting when he had two kids aged about 7 was to leave one of them in a strange city in the care of who knows while taking the other around the world training for nearly a decade, then when he realized he was dying, to return home via a difficult means without ever visiting said child even once in the meantime or telling her he was about to die. Even if he wanted to train Azuma, instead of training them both for some reason, he still had no real reason to basically abandon Kouruko since he could simply have taken her with them. It's absolutely no wonder she was desperate for validation and attention and let Guy lead her around like a puppy to get it.

She appeared to stop maturing emotionally and mentally as well as growing physically when Entei was beaten. It's not just that Azuma stopped her when she tried to kill herself, he had to point out how fixated she was on certain things and is emotionally more well rounded because he's able to take on new ideas and consider things from new perspectives easily while Reoko appears to really need the time she's incapacitated because of distance from Entei to consider things. Not just that, but there's also weird scenes where she acts more her physical than chronological age with Souya, crying because she's presumably overwhelmed in a very human and almost child like fashion, commenting on milk etc. Those moments kind of stand out because they're such a stark contrast to how controlled she normally is. The slightly panicky teenager we see in her first flashback with Migawa when she finds out Migawa has a boyfriend seems more like the slightly panicky girl that she ends up as in the finale.

The rest of the cast likely doesn't know about Maxim's change of heart and probably thinks that he was a selfish asshole in his last moments.

Personally it's my absolute favourite mecha show in ages.
It also has this very classic super robot feeling and elements to it, that I haven't seen in a very long time let alone executed well. And this show does it exceptionally well I dare say. It really is reminiscent of many old classics like that, while still being very unique with a distinct identity of its own.

It has a very interesting setting. With good characters. As well as amazing mech designs.
Naturally I can in no way guarantee you'll like it. But I still dare to claim that it's a very special show. And personally, I loved it.

I love characters like Kaoroku - their movements are so dynamic, they're a joy to watch. Cocona is another character in the same vein.

That said I really don't see why they felt the need to hold off in revealing the names thing for two episodes like it was some kind of mystery or had any import.
I also wish Kaoroku had gotten more to do in the show. The beginning with Migawa talking about how the two of them together can do anything really set an expectation for me that she'd contribute more to the show. Instead she was just a side character and contributed almost nothing. She's fun to watch, and I really liked her arc of seeking validation because her dad abandoned her up to the point where she cried to Azuma. It's a shame the show never built on that and gave her something to do.
