The only negative responses are mostly from here with the same stock complaints of retards who didn't pay attention or never gave it a chance because Lelouch wasn't the lead. I went to the live screening of the event.They showed some anime clips of it. It was basically everyone being happy, and then stuff explodes, and then action scenes. Cute part with Milly, Rivalz, and Nina in an airport, and Rivalz carrying their stuff for them, and some with Kallen and the other surviving Black Knights; Cool action parts with Cornelia, Zero/Suzaku, and Suzaku in his Rounds uniform (always a good thing, those uniforms are hot). Code Geass had its wonky moments too. Although I can't think of an objectively bad scene. The worst is when enemy mook knightmares are just firing while standing still, while the protagonist knightmare just eats the bullets before getting into melee range and annihilating them. I swear, that shit happened at least once every other episode.

Code Geass panders hard - it tries to inject fanservice-y bullshit and high school slice-of-life dramedy in some kind of attempt to appeal to every anime fandom (and boy did it work), and it comes across as mostly unconvincing to anyone who can rise above that kind of shit. It really does seem to embraces almost every obnoxious anime trope there is. Definitely one of those cases where the fanbase alone is enough to turn anyone off from the series.

But Code Geass is deceptively good. In a nutshell, it's one of the most compelling, well-plotted anime out there. It's a story that's almost entirely character-driven - characters have identities and arcs that make sense and feel relatable, and the plot revolves around the choices they make. Despite what people argue, it isn't a show about weird, mystical plot devices and supernatural phenomena. It's a show about a really pissed off, angsty kid who's been giving a shit deal and is now in a position to do something about it. So he does.

Also, it's extremely well-paced. Rarely does it get stale, and when it does, it usually picks right back up soon enough.
