What's your favorite Macross series and why?

Macross.

The original had the best balance of sci-fi military/idol shit/love triangle drama of any entry in the series, making all three aspects tolerable and integral to each other. Everything afterward veers too hard into idol shit (especially Frontier and Delta) or in Plus' case, drama shit.

It pushes things up to eleven, has the best music and best boy

7 is the only good series because it's the only one that basically ignored the love triangle nonsense that Kawamori is terrible at.

Instead, the show felt like him unleashing his inner child all over the storyboards and I couldn't help but enjoy the ride.

Macross 7 had the best songs, and the best finale of any Macross ever.
If you didn't get hyped during those last 10 episodes you don't have a pulse and should probably check yourself into a morgue right now.

Probably SDF because it had the best story and did the space opera thing better than any of the shows the followed. I also like DYRL and Plus because they're visually the coolest looking.

Also, aside from the VF-2SS, the VF designs weren't that good.

Silvie as actually competent at what she does and she does her best with what she's got. She has no gimmick to her character: What you see is what you get.

Freyja was moe panderbait material with bullshit magical powers that redefines the lore of the franchise and so far removed from the original show that it's practically its own thing.

Hard question. Probably Plus because of the animation, kick-ass dogfights, awesome valkyriebdesign and soundtrack. Also, I liked how they turned the love triangle into a story of reconciliation, even if plot-wise Plus is nothing to write home about. But I think SDF is a very close second because of good balance between love triangle/music/war and good character writing imho.Concerning 7, I find it so-so due to the goddamn stock footage, lack of good dogfights and the first 15 or so episodes which could have been condensed into 7 or 8. Awesome songs though. I haven't seen Frontier so no opinions on it, and I found what I watched of Delta somewhat enjoyable even if I hate modern idolshit and moe pandering.

Frontier. Amazing VF, good characters, good songs, amazing bgm, Sheryl, the best finale in the entire franchise, and two movies to extend the fun.

Zero, because best dogfights. Don't even care about aging CG, the storyboarding, directing, and choreography are top notch.

It doesn't matter what my favorite is, just know that your favorite is actually not only the worst Macross, but the worst anime ever, and that every single anine made after it has also be terrible solely because of its influence. It was also the first Macross to focus more on idolshit than planes.
