So long as Kawamori remains the sole owner and proprietor of the franchise, don't expect change to come. The guy just doesn't learn from his mistakes, and the success of Frontier was largely luck and fluke, his attempt to imitate it in Delta ended in failure.

Even if Tomino were the only guy to make Gundam, and even if that died not long after Victory, at least he had the capacity to change and adapt (look at how Turn A, King Gainer and G-Reco compare to his earlier works). But Sunrise did the smart thing and let others direct and write for the franchise, which helped keep it alive and fill it with new life with different styles of storytelling. Unless Studio Nue does the same for Macross, it's going to forever remain Kawamori's rodeo, and held back by his failures.

True, but the post war episodes are really disjointed from the rest of the series. That the powers that be managed to give the series a "good" ending was nothing short of a miracle.
I think though SDF should have ended at episode 27. That was the perfect ending. Minmay crowning her career by singing for humanity's survival. Hikaru embracing 100% his role, ditching Minmay and going for one last fight. Misa witnessing the destruction of earth, the death of her father etc... All the episodes after this one felt like an emotional let down.

To be fair to the man, that is something a lot of people are mad at, not just him. HG are, for all points and purposes, just copyright/patent trolls at this point, since they're just trying to piggyback off of someone else's successful work by putting in minimal effort, and being obstructionist otherwise. At least Saban hires actors and puts effort into their own stunt scenes for the Americanized version of Super Sentai, and at least they have a cooperative working relationship with Toei to that end (the costumes they made and used for Dragon Knight went back for the Ryuki episodes of Decade and the Den-O crossover).

Imagine if the same thing happened to Gundam. Not only would Sunrise be unable to capitalize on shows like Wing or stream everything from AGE onward worldwide, but some asshole in the US would keep trying to make up some random cut-and-paste story based on 0079 and sue anyone who tries to do anything Gundam-like anywhere that isn't Japan.

As much as I have my disagreements with Kawamori's works (I still think Plus and Zero are complete pieces of trash), it's unfair to him that they're impeded from global success because some real estate company in the US holds a piece of paper from the 80s that says they can't distribute their own works outside of Japan.

The only thing 7 didn't resolve is it's love triangle, which only existed in Mylene's mind regardless. It pretty clearly resolved the central conflicts for one thing, given the villains no longer had any motivation and left for another dimension. I also have no idea whether you think Frontier was too long or too short. I thought 26 episodes was a good length, though I'd personally say it could have used it's run time better and the ending was a bit rushed.

Mikumo's top may have stiffened sides to the cups, so that the breasts are forced to stay in place by external pressure. By Empire Lucas was the one calling all the shots on Star Wars. I'm running out of ways to say that this went nowhere, did nothing with anything/everything it introduced early on, and did so very, very slowly, squandering the somewhat above average (at least for this season) production… at least for the episodes that weren't 24 straight minutes of exposition. Not a single character had even the slightest bit of development over the entire six month run, the plot only 'advanced' through exposition and handwaving about things happening somewhere far away, and most of it was just to fill up some screentime anyway. Christ, you could've written Hayate out of the show entirely and literally nothing would've changed at all. This would've been a poorly paced three episode OVA. Not a single character was integral to the show, nor was anything that they did. So what was there to get involved with? What was there to root for?

About the only times it was palatable was when it was being willfully idiotic; overselling the idol fandom, shenanigans with the idiotic catseals, teenagers being the super bestest at absolutely everything. The story was tripe, the characters could've all been replaced by catseals without any loss of fidelity, and it even jettisoned the idol stuff for most of the second half. That's what I get for giving an idol show half a chance.

There were other people writing, but he still had the final say in all decisions for both Empire and Returns. Also, I'm not aware of any real faggotry on his part for Indiana Jones. The worst Kawamori girls

You know, this was my first time watching a Macross as it aired. I've watched part of the original and enjoyed it, only putting it down due to being busy, so I decided to check this one out. After all, how bad could it be?

So, I start watching it and I enjoyed the first half. I thought it was done well and was hyped for the protagonists' new role as the underdogs. Even bought one of those cheap models of Hayate's plane. Then the show ground to a halt and lost my interest. It's like, wow. What were they thinking? All the problems I had with IBO season 1 come out in full force.

I still have 6 episodes left to finish the show, but I can't bring myself to do so. It's just so disappointing.

I'm not sure what anyone else thinks but it all really soured me on the brand.

Nah 500k per license top for China is about right, but most 1 cour show's cost is about 1-1.5 million, so even we cut it half for China's license=250k, add CR's 150k, that's already 400k which already covered 25-40% of one cour show's cost, and if there's a show that luck getting 500k+200k=700k, that means it's already covered 50-70% of the cost, so please don't treat CR/China's 100-200k/500k top like nothing, it's clearly something, and not cheap.

There's at least a small number of vocal people here who like both the music and Freyja, so that's not actually true. Plenty of people praise the first half too. Some of the music was enjoyable. Freyja as a character was good. The setting with fringe planets part of the NUN was neat.

Ultimately there were too many characters so there was little to no character development.

And I'm pretty sure that if Delta ended on episode 13 without that terrible 2nd half it wouldn't get any better results in this poll. Delta failed miserably at trying to reach generic audience. From the very first episodes it had less art on pixiv and twitter than half of the shows airing in the same season. As well as less active threads both on 2channel and 4chan. That's why I'm very skeptical about movie despite decent CD sales.

And even if it had ended at episode 13 I wouldn't be that big a fan personally, since even putting aside the unresolved plot points regarding Mikumo or the fact everything regarding Windermere would be unresolved you'd still have Hayate getting revenge for Messer in the very next fight after he dies in a really unsatisfactory way. So, over at nyaa someone has released the 5th BD Volume of Delta, although I still want to know of the specials of it and from the 4th one.

Delta is a unique entry in the Macross franchise in that it is the only one that is just totally irredeemably terrible from start to finish.
