But basically this, the project itself was progressing smoothly for nearly two years without much issues. Most who knew about it were looking forward to it, until project lead announced that he would never sell the translation to Xseed.

Then of course Xseed fans made accounts on the site, criticising him, making fun of the script insertion video as if it was the finished work and calling the project a machine translation like nayuta which was unrelated and not actually done by him.

He got mad, really mad, and he started ranting about Xseed, insulting the suicide attempts of the ones behind the delayed translation of Trails in the Sky SC.

The reaction he got was expected and comparisons to Nightwolve was made. This was enough to call out the actual guy and the thread quickly escalated and got locked.

Few months later he announces on his website, that the project is going well and will be released on Christmas. Some time afterwards he vanishes, leaving the translator to do all the work and with the actual release date in question.

In this case he won't receive any credit whatsoever. For the Ys fan- translation which were bought, Xseed care for and will credit only the translation and not the means taken to allow it, which leaves the programming parts creditless, partly the reason why the hacker Nightwolve is so angry.

Fun IP rights fact. The translator has the IP rights to the translation, not the project leader (because the translator is most likely not employed if its a fan translation). This means it's actually the translator, not the project leader, who can sell the translation.

Though, the thing is that because its a translation of someone else's IP rights (Falcom), the translator can't actually sell the translation without permission from Falcom.

The easiest way to solve this is for XSEED to commission the translator for a translation, and then the translator gives the work he has already done (while claiming he did it as a commission from XSEED).

And the project lead can suck a dick. Sounds like a pompous jackass.

They stopped him halfway through SC's translation, took it back in-house, then spent months manually fixing all his fuckups from inconsistent terminology to straight up using the wrong format for the scripts that meant they had to manually copy and paste tens of thousands of lines.
