I liked "Once A Ranger" team-up. It was a really fun gathering of the best characters from multiple disney seasons + Adam as MMPR black. He looked great in the overdrive shield and its how we find out that Bridge became SPD Red.

Also, the megazord designs that season were really detailed looking. It reminded me of some of the older day things like turbo, space before they started adding those lame cg animations and toy looking designs of today.

I personally hated "Once a Ranger". It made both the OO Rangers and the villains look even worse than they already were, the actual teaming up left a whole lot to be desired, it had one of the shittiest sequences in Overdrive (the big fight at the start), and Thrax is just a living plothole.

Speaking for myself personally, I tried to watch it (the premiere episode) back in the day, but I just thought it was plain garbage.

Every fight got interrupted by the same slow motion, screen filling explosion. The premise and characters seemed cartoon-ish and uninteresting.

But honestly the biggest nail in the coffin for me was that the music was just plain awful. It was just tune-less, draining rock whenever I watched it.

Having not watched it though and only hearing about the twist and watching the scene where Mack confronts his father about it, I actually admire it for that. It's a pretty neat twist, and I honestly thought James MacLurcan gave one of the best performances in PR history there. It at least has this redeeming quality.

It's interesting how Overdrive and Megaforce are bad in two drastically different ways in that one was just ultimately not very good material, but at least they tried and there is a measurable amount of effort, whereas the other had so much potential, a likeable cast, and the greatest stock footage a season could ever had, bogged down by colossal production laziness and uninspiration.

Honestly, I never really cared for the twist myself because it felt super artificial. Like, it was the most random plot twist that didn't really do anything outside of create additional tension between Mack and his father.

Megaforce and Super Megaforce reminded me a lot more of VR Troopers and Masked Rider than PR show, because they just felt like they just spun a bottle, landed on a Japanese clip, then just shoved in wherever into the show with no context or logic.

Shows like In Space and Lost Galaxy did a great job at taking footage and still making their own story, but keeping it coherent and didn't cut corners. MF and SMF almost seemed like random clip generators.

Until Samurai and Megaforce it carried that title. It was considered too hammy by even the most die hard PR fan so a lot of people either skipped it, watched it in bits n' pieces, or only watched the crossover.
I have read and heard many people say, after the franchise went back to Saban Brands and the company not living up to the hype that was built up, they went back and gave Overdrive a second chance and enjoyed it in some aspect.
When compared to Samurai with a cast who were stiff as cardboard cut outs and Megaforce/Super Megaforce that had a plot that was all over the place Overdrive redeemable qualities shine super bright.

Is dino charge worth watching? I haven't started it yet and a thread ago I saw a lot of commotion over it breaking continuity or something, is this a good or a bad thing?

Dino Charge is a good watch. Unlike its sentai counterpart, all the team members get equal attention. It really makes good use of a mix of original footage and sentai too.

Dino Supercharge is a bit harder to watch as its inconsistent and dials up the hammy dialogue to 10, but still a fun watch. Would definitely recommend.

Yeah, it´s a great balance of light hearted fun for kids but with shit actually going on and good characters, pretty much the ideal PR season in that regard. It has some clever footage usage and enough things of its own but not going as far as In Space or RPM territory.

Biggest flaws would be, ironically, some focus episodes where the footage doesn´t focus on the ranger the episode´s plot focus on and the Silver Ranger plotline coming too late, which would have been solved by just using the Kyoryuger plotline.

As for the continuity thing, dont worry much about it, as usual, you can still enjoy Dino Thunder which is what matters in the end.

It's weird

It doesn't feel like the stakes were up enough from the previous season like between S1 and S2 with Rita and Zedd respectively

Also, Kendell NEEDED a focus or at least a development arc; I seriously banked on her going through similar motions like with Cam in Ninja Storm

I agree with that absolutely. Supercharge was pretty tame compared to Dino Charge, ironic given the name. Just watched the final episode and everything was tied up neatly, but it just felt functional, not like a huge finale. Compared to Dino Charge's finale, which was pretty hype, this was meh.

Also yeah, disappointed that Kendall didn't see more action that gave her more character development. Didn't feel like she had much of a purpose in Supercharge, despite being the purple ranger.

I think Mystic Force is a bad season. Samurai is only slightly better, and Overdrive is worse. Then you have Megaforce/Super Megaforce which is even worse than that.

Game theory: As we know, Matt was meant to be the Graphite ranger. Phillip would later come in as Aqua and James would be Silver following a similar style to Kyoryuger.

I'm still behind a few episodes, so maybe there's something I don't know about yet, but if anyone needed a better arc IMO, it was Heckyl and Snide. Great live-action actor with a lot of potential in the duo's gimmick, but the 20 episode limit + being often relegated to the ship wreckage really, REALLY held him back from being great.

Yeah it's a good season. Dino Charge being better than Dino Super Charge of course. Man that first finale was awesome. And the premiere was ambitious and exciting.

I think this show has the greatest potential for a great future crossover or epilogue episode. With Heckyl as the Keeper of the Dark Energem, that bodes so well for a Talon Ranger storyline. Plus the bonus of the crew reuniting for Koda and Ivan. Anyway, they don't really do this anymore but a fan can dream.

I can at LEAST try and hope they do an insane, time consuming, 10 person morph in the Christmas Special.

I'm of the thought process that the first half was really good. Better than average PR at least. Lots of character focus, an on-going plot, a finale that wrapped things up well but left enough for the second half.

Where was this in Super Charge? Super Charge did have its moments, that episode where Arcanon arrived was really good. But there was a lot of "eh" and "what?" Could have cut episodes like Home Run Koda and Besties 4Eva for more plot. More Zenowing too.

In Jungle Fury, they may look and act like combining animal-themed robots, but they are in fact a physical manifestation of the rangers' kung fu filtered through the morphing grid (thanks to the morphers provided by RJ's friend of a friend). I think he means they won't really be giant robots, but are treated like them.

Ah, sorry. I was talking about the toyline.

Back then, Bandai America was experimenting with different size classes for the Zords. So you had the standard size DX that was basically an import of GekiTohja, a slightly smaller but more affordable Megazord sans electronics, and then the super cheap mini-megazords.

I'm kind of assuming they're doing something similar here, only with the "main" combining Megazord being at a smaller scale, while the Interactive version takes the place of the normal DX.

Or maybe they're just copying that way Hasbro spreads out the figures for the Transformers movies, with the mainline being super basic while the higher-priced figures are bigger and electronic. I don't know.

Yeah. Speaking of Jiraiya, what are the chances of them actually adapting his episode?

He's an old hero who wouldn't have the can of worms that would come with a modern Kamen Rider guest appearance with a whole 'nother toyline so it's not as if they'd have to make Power Rider.

I see no reason why they couldn't cast someone (Kane Kosugi), though given experience it'd be more likely that he'd just be a voice, and bring in Jiraiya as an extra hero like when Janperson was on Big Bad Beetleborgs.

Can someone explain what the big deal about the Dino Charge finale is? I see alot of fans saying how it completely retcons everything but I think it's just because we are so use to seeing other stories show such extreme examples of time travel ripple effects. Maybe in the PR universe, they simply prevented dinos from being extinct, and MMPR and Dino Charge happened pretty much the same with the only difference being their powers are drawn from dinosaurs that aren't extinct. What am I missing here?

Well the running pet theory before the DC finale is that the asteroids that Sledge was towing had the Dino gems.

The issue is with Dino Thunder, not MMPR since dinosaurs being extinct don't rreally matter there. Though, we never saw dinosaurs living in other seasons so in reality it should retcon everything. People point out at Dino Thunder since its premise is based on that.

The movies are a separate licensing deal. They have rights to the Super Sentai franchise, but they still need to purchase licenses for the television series and movies as separate entities.

I believe that all the footage they used of the Legend War came strictly from the footage from the series, and not Gokaiger Goseiger 199 Hero Great Battle.

Though they have used footage from movies a couple times in the past (Lost Galaxy/Lightspeed crossover and Clash of the Red Rangers), it's apparent that they opted not to license these ones. It's probably not very cost effective to do so.

Still, I don't see any reason that couldn't have still used the suit.

Having marathonned it over the last couple of days, I can say that it's not great but I've honestly enjoyed parts of it, a lot of the monster-of-the-week ones are pretty forgettable but whenever the show is focusing on an ongoing plotline (like say introducing a new Ranger) it's really good.

Supercharge is the same but it's not nearly as good about any of it.

Koda becomes a stronger version to save Taku, so his Blue dino powers evolved into the Talon Ranger mode. As he travels through a portal to find Peter though, the evolution of his powers turns him evil and the story is about reuniting brothers as they struggle to regain memories and regain control of powers.
