Actually rewatched AGE half a year ago. Asemu is an awful, awful character, the writers obviously never really figured what to do with him. His character development seems to reset every episode to angry dumbass during AGE-2 and by AGE-3 he's an entirely different character altogether who only exists as a device. He's what you'd expect Kamille would have become if people kept giving him free passes for his bullshit insted of slapping all the immature crap out of him.

Kio is a dumb kid who's trying to make everyone happy (which never works), if you need to blame people, blame the adults who keep putting him into the Gundam despite his nonsense instead of sending him home.

AGE wasn't as compelling as SEED/Destiny. Even at it's worst, Destiny remained watchable (if astonishingly annoying).
AGE just ended up being boring.

Age had fun Mobile Suit designs, great toys, Obari, but a really mediocre story. In the hands of someone competent, a story of a family grudge passed down along with the Gundam throughout the generations could have been interesting and a good look at how adults and children alike can become entrenched in old patterns of hate and resentment, leading to tragedy. But instead we got the guy who wrote the Professor Layton games, which have never ended in a satisfying fashion.

Really good mech design. Great soundtrack. And as you have kind of picked up by now, there are complaints about basically a specific arc. Honestly I didn't find it any worse than many other Gundam series are in terms of getting slowed down with non-action and childish characters.
The first 2 arcs are really fantastic, and by the time you get to the third you'll be invested enough that you'll want to finish it.

I really liked AGE. Far more than I should have, but in my head it is a piece of the Gundam universe and I will respect it for what it does for me as a fan. I love time skips so naturally I loved how this series progressed. Of course I had my issues with it, but when it comes to discussing these with yet another rendition of Gundam I just get tired and feel like enjoying it instead of disowning it. That being said, Asemu did it for me. AGE-2 was my favorite suit from the series and the Double Bullet was just fun. I got goosebumps when I saw the Woolf paintjob on AGE 2 original- literally my favorite touch from the entire show. Fun fact, the Dreadnaught was painted Red/Black which Woolf thought of as lame in one episode. Asemu's development as a character with lack of X-rounding was nice. I'll be real, without the second arc I would probably be just as butthurt as most people on this sub when it comes to AGE.

The writing is too bad for it to be anything above 5/10. AGE-1 and AGE-3 easily a 6,5 though, AGE-2 and AGE-4 are the bad parts though 4 has some really nice stuff near the end.

Was the EXA-DB supposed to be some sort of pandora's box or something? You don't just lock away perfectly military good technology and create a powerful AI-controlled monster to defend it for nothing, even if it proved to be "too dangerous". But how dangerous could have possibly been? The Earth is still in good shape even decades into the war with the Vagans.

I didn't finish the series. I didn't even get past episode 3. So, I skimmed past the stuff that I thought would contain spoilers. That said, it completely agree on what I did read. The animation turned me off. The character design (especially the professor) turned me off and the AGE system itself was the nail in the shelved coffin for me. I understand that was why it was developed in the series, but it really screams cheese to me. Fight goes along and AGE figures out they can't beat the enemy. Magic weapon appears in the 3d printer and the fight is won. I'll probably try to come back to it later, but it will be a while.

I think AGE is decent, but near the end as most people have said it tends to go down hill, I really enjoyed the first arc and the second arc was okay, but it generally goes downhill from there. They make questionable choices with where they take the story and it kind wears on ya, over all I think that the show might be worth watching if you just really want a gundam fix but don't expect too much from it. Especially when you get near the end.
