Overall story was really good and i enjoyed watching it to the very end. I've watched alot of good pyschological shows and M3 is one of my favorite for this year. I hope more anime comes out like this one.

Time for the annual m3 3 reply thread.

Reporting.
M3 was pretty good senpai.
I hear Maaya's Replica single was a huge success in Japan. Strange to think that it wouldn't have given a boost to M3 viewership.

Okada
>>14942154
Nice effects shit story.
>>14942200
It was just no one saw it. Been thinking of starting a niche mecha general for questions and help finding less watched m shows.
>>14942154
M3 was pretty nice. It's always good to see people actually try to talk out their issues for once, instead of just going full retard.
>>14942154
Reporting in as one of the people that actually watched and liked the show.
>>14944438
I always enjoy a show that acknowledges how dumb the whole "WE CAN UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER IF WE TRY" bullshit that gets tossed around.
Honestly I think people understand each other just fine in general. But understanding why someone hates you doesn't mean they suddenly don't hate you.
>>14945502
EVEN SO, YOU SHOULD STILL TRY TO COEXIST IN SOME FASHION.
COEXISTENCE MAY NOT BE PAIN FREE BUT IT HELPS TO EASE THE BURDEN, AND IS PREFERABLE TO SUFFERING IN SILENCE ALL ALONE.Half of Valvrave's thesis, more or less. The other half is LYING NEVER PAYS OFF.
>>14945759
Yes but it's not UNDERSTANDING that leads to that. It's reaching out, it's communication. Those are completely different things.
Iwato and Raika took the time to talk about things that bother them and communicated with each other like human beings. They didn't always understand what to say or do but talking about their problems helped them grow closer. And because of this they where the only pair of characters who DIDN'T get slapped stupid with drama and suffering. Well not too much anyways.
>>14945771
I meant that in V's case where the endgame argument calls out UNDERSTANDING as no excuse to commit to shifty shit and avoiding trying to build bridges even in the face of adversity.
You have an entire alien race that decides a vast conspiracy that serves to protect them and their interests from fear-driven human nature is not only a good idea but the right thing to do and they get fucked over by fuelling those sentiments they sought to shield themselves from, whereas the main cast despite experiencing comparable suffering still powers through such adversity by realizing that building bridges gets you far in life.
Really though I feel UNDERSTANDING gets torn apart far more frequently than we give credit for.
>>14943567
Good taste m8
I particularly love that finale where the three Mavess gattai into M3, the Dark Metal and there were rainbows and bright colors everywhere.
It was a pretty decent mecha show, even better when you consider 80% of mecha series in the last 10 years have been pretty damn bad story-wise.
Of course, since it did not focus in either battles or pretty bishonen (not that they didn't try to include it in some capacity though), it bombed big time.
>>14946171
But Mahmu is a total cutie pie.
I think the fatal flaw that caused it to bomb was wanting to do legit character development that ties in with the theme of the series by making the main cast heavily flawed both on their personal levels and in their ability to work together in the first quarter of the series. It really doesn't lend itself well to the "three episode" thing that a lot of anime watchers do nowadays.
>>14946187
One day we'll live in an era where a show can take a deliberate pace instead of just having boners for power levels
>>14943567
shit taste m8
>>14945790
Its that UNDERSTANDING is more used in gundam thanks to Seed and Age I guess because even then in most gundam shows they don't really reach an understand of each other, in the UC ones they just end up wiping out the opposition as they do with most AUs
Its just that the way Seed and Age went about it was so fucking heavy handed it was all people talked about
But like you said its also a meme in the same way that trainwreck is, its the only way for people to enjoy something is to pretend they want to see it fail
>>14942154
M3 is much better than generic harem shit show called Neon Genesis Evangelion

No, V's message is that kids ruin everything, lead people to genocide, cause witch hunts, disrupt the world order, and run away to avoid responsibility.

Don't think so. Man did this series implode sales-wise, and I'm not even too sure why.
>>14952156
No ads. Not even for the game which is apparently good.
M3 is the only show in recent memory that had a bleak setting and stuck with that bleak setting

>>14952575
That's what I really like about Okada. BRS, M3, Wixoss, all had a really bleak tone, but it didn't devolve into pop nihilism (people are scum), or drop the tone halfway. It's bleak, but there's always a good ending in there that doesn't feel tonally off.
>>14942154
of course it's good, if you enjoy retarded character

Independently of this scene, Minashi blackmailed and threatened Sasame all the time, saying that it was the best thing that she could do to protect Akashi and also threatening to tell Akashi about Sasame contamination.
why are you trying to argue with the facts? are you retarded?
>>14954911
Okada had no choice in this one. She wanted to write a joyful romcom for this particular anime, in fact the original title was "The Rainbow Metal: Magical Miracle Machine". However, intern Tanaka forgot to put in the order for the bright and cheery colors. By the time the producer found out, all the bright happy colors have been bought by Kyoani and Sunrise. The Color Factory was only left dark and bleak colors so the production team was forced to overhaul the show to fit those colors. This is why the show started late in the season and the BD release was messed up. They didn't really figure out a new name for the show so they just shortened it to "M3".
Totally true story.
I met a dude i college that watched this as his first mecha. Pretty based.
Might eventually finish it. Forgot where I left off.
>>14942154
MS3 is much better than generic harem shit called EVA
>>14957173
Except he has no romantic feelings of any kind for her and the only reason he even said that to her was because he knew it was the best way to manipulate Akashi, his only goal was to have everyone be part of the hivemind one way or another because he was a kid forced into a bullshit situation and never had anyone to talk about it
If you want to make a case for NTR you should look at the sisters since both wanted to get on his dick and only one won him

Aye, aye, E Minor!
Ohh...
What's the worst pain a man can feel!
NE-TO-RA-RE!
What will make his heart turn to steel?
NE-TO-RA-RE!
If making him blubber is your wish
NE-TO-RA-RE!
Then take the girl and kiss her like this!
NE-TO-RA-RE!
YEAH, I had a feeling this would be the case. WHAT'S THE GREATEST TRAGEDY HERE? That Sasame "DIES?" That she becomes a LIM module? NO, WHAT'S MOST TRAGIC IS THAT SOME OTHER GUY GETS HER! BUT THIS ISN'T EVEN THE FIRST TIME OKADA DIPPED HER PEN INTO THIS WELL OF PURE ORIGINALITY. FIRST, HEITO STOLE EMIRU, but it was okay; Akashi didn't really want her anyway. BUT NOW, HE DID WANT SASAME! AND HE STILL LOST HER.
THE TITLE OF THE EPISODE IS "VACANT HEART OF MORNING GRAY." LIKE REALLY?
"Your emotional wounds are far more greater than your physical wounds." C'mon, that's just tacky writing.
APPARENTLY, AKASHI HAS BEEN SO TRAUMATIZED BY ALL THE NETORARE THAT HE CAN NO LONGER SPEAK. His heart has turned to steel: "If you can let me into your heart, your voice should return." But really, it's kind of sad what this series has become. The primary focus this entire time has been Akashi's half-baked love life. Investigate the Lightless Realm? Puh-leeze. MORE LIKE DAYS OF AKASHI'S LIFE. AS AKASHI'S HEART TURNS. ALL AKASHI'S GIRLS. THE YOUNG AND THE NETORARE.

It started as an NGE rip-off and then devolved into the usual Okada-script with childhood frriends who had their happiness robbed by bad adults and end up angsting for no reason.
I would have hated it but the ridiculously bad sales in Japan made the series quit hilarious to watch actually.

20th M3 viewer and one who were in the threads back in 2014 on /a/. It was the weirdest experience to watch this as WIXOSS. These both series made me got deep into Okada.
M3 has a special place in my heart despite being severly flawed. I don't care to explain the intrinsic reasons behind it, because it has some stuff which I'd kill to see again in a lot of series, characters, personalities, relation dynamics and so on.
soon
>>14968258
Looking forward to it man. you're a treasure to board
I just got really self-conscious. Fansubs, encodes, scanlations...they're private, and deeply personal, and come from a private place. They're like your asshole, you don't just go around showing everyone your asshole. It's personal.
I also thought they looked like shit but it was all in my head leave me alone jeez

Natsuiri actually was one of the best times the "blatantly deplorable scientist who works with the main characters" was done.
He's an asshat to absolutely everyone but he's so good at his job that they have no choice but to put up with it. His actions aren't done solely to present him as an antagonist but also genuinely entertaining. There's also that his story arc ties very well with the message of the series sinceas a viewer it's easy to see why he does what he does and feel a degree of pity, but there is no way to see his actions as justifiable or benevolent.
Minashi a retard
>>14973336
>That time when for one fleeting moment conventional tactics and weaponry where useful

M3 the dark metal is truly something. The story isn't some dude trying to save everyone, and he damn well isn't an emotionless douche like we see in Kiznaiver and Aldnoah.Zero. He looks blank with his eyes, but really, he's full of hate and all the other emotions. He smiled when his brother died, he didn't really care about Emiru, and he seeemed to develop feeling for Sasame unti... you know... yeah. His character is magnificent. And then there's the other characters... don't care about them except for Minashi. Now, Minashi seems like a nice guy but really, he's like some truth seeking jack ass. He does good things and he wishes for the best of people, but honestly, what the hell is wrong with him
>>14982219
Doesn't Minashi lick a puddle of blood early on
>>14945502
>Still thinking Newtypes view things as old gen humans.
>>14982219
>Minashi seems like a nice guy
threats, blackmail, and emotional or even pisological pressure on Sasame and the people.
>>14982951
>>14984198
Early on Minashi gave the vibe of the nicest guy hiding an unhinged side that appeared to stem from a sort of naivete.
About halfway through that unstable side was shown and it becomes clear that his being kind was from his own issues with affection.
