One of the PS2 games, Gundam Seed Destiny: Generation of C.E got into that whole subject, though that game was made before the events of Episode 34 had actually taken place, so everything that came after the battle where Auel is killed and Athrun loses the Saviour Gundam are all What-If based.

Path 1: Shinn works with Kira to take down the Destroy Gundam, thus stopping it from destroying all of Berlin. Livid at being lied to and betrayed by Neo, Shinn swears to exterminate LOGOs and is given a two rank promotion and is granted the Destiny Gundam. From that point on, the crew of the Minervia are deployed alongside the Earth based Z.A.F.T forces to attack Iceland to kill Djbril, then pursues him into space as he escapes.

Ending A: Djbril is killed during his escape, but Durrandal is still no satisfied and desires destroying the alliances moon base to cut of the Atlantic Federation Access to Space. Athrun and Dearka join alongside the Three Ships Alliance to attack Z.A.F.T and the surviving Alliance Fleet. The Minervia wins and Neo Genesis destroys the Lunar Base, ending the war.

Ending B: Djbril manages to escape and re-link with the central force at the Lunar Base. Using the nuclear stockpile still at the facility, he and Neo lead a full scale nuclear attack on the PLANTs. The Minervia and Yzaks unit are the last surviving unit capable of fending them off now. During the fight, the Three Ships Alliance join in the fray and aid in guarding the PLANTs from a nuclear attack, along with aiding in killing Djbril. After winning the battle, The Three Ships Alliance retreat and Gilbert chooses to work alongside the reformed Alliance to try and mend relations.

Path 2: Shinn decides to fight off the Freedom at Berlin, injuring Kira and damaging the Freedom. As Shinn prepares to save Stella from the cockpit of the Destroy, Talia chooses to fire the Minervias tanhauser directing into the Destroy, killing Stella instantly. Gilbert decides to have the Minervia pursue the Archangel while it is damaged, and to kill it's crew. Victorious against the crippled crew, Marrue Ramius, Kira and Cagalli are all killed in action. Lacus Clyne in retaliation has the survivors of the Three Ships Alliance prepare to intercept Meer Cambell and to publicly execute her in retaliation for Kiras death. The Minervia manages to defeat the remanants, ending Lacus and her forces for good. Djbril is killed due to Durandals actions and it seems the war is at an end...

Ending C: If you killed Lacus without harming the two Mercenaries during the battle, the Minervia is deployed to the Moon to stop Neo and his forces from deploying Nuclear warheads against the PLANTs. Victorious in battle, Genesis fires, destroying the Alliance and Minervia in one blow.

Ending D: After killing Lacus, Shinn opens fire on two mercenaries monitoring the battle. After they fall back, multiple Ginn High Mobility Types enter the battle and begin to attack the Minervia. Meer Signals for Rey to fall back and they both escape to safe space while the Minervia is assaulted. After managing to survive the battle, The Alliances Lunar Fleet pursues the Minervia in retaliation for Djbrils death. Desperate to escape, the Minervia attempts to escape to the PLANTs, only to be blocked by Z.A.F.T forces proclaiming them traitors. A Custom Destiny Gundam is deployed to Rey to destroy his old comrades and both the bulk of Z.A.F.T and the Alliance close in on the crippled Minervia. The Minervia escapes and realize another fleet waits for them. Realizing the hopelessness of the situation, Shinn and the Minervia fight one last desperate fight before being wiped out.

This is pretty fascinating, since the developers lacking foreknowledge about the plot seems to have led to them making reasonable assumptions, like Durandal *not* going blootyhoo crazy and tossing the newly created unity in the turlet and whipping out a death stat so Kira and co will have a final baddie to fight. It also amuses me that team Archangel *still* failed to defend the PLANTS from Djibril

Pffthahaha, that's great. And as off the wall as it seems it still might have even been a neat direction for Lacus by giving her an actual character and making her a flawed human with a breaking point.

Is there an explanation for why Genesis is fired on Minerva in Ending C? And what's the deal with these mercenaries? Either way, cool story.

After the Crew of the Minervia run into Lacus, she reveals that Meer is a fake and that she is being used as propoganda to keep Z.A.F.T nice and docile. Talia chooses to mostly ignore this, but Shinn and Lunamaria are disgusted by the revelation. The Two mercenaries are Gai and Elijah from Seed Astray under orders to make sure Lacus dies and that Meer is safely returned to the PLANTs. in the path where you ignore them, they leave and remind the Minervia to stay quiet about the matter. Gilbert still chooses to erase the Minervia at the moon due to thinking Shinn is to feral, Athrun is to emotional about Kira, and Talia for leaving him, along with stopping Meers identity from being revealed. If Shinn attacks Gai and Elijah, you learn from them that Durrandal armed the task force that dropped Junius 7 and that the Minervia is now marked for death. Rey defects and takes Meer to safety, along with being granted a task force to wipe out the Minervia.

Basically...

Don't kill Kira: Gilbert never goes order 66 on your forces and keeps Z.A.F.T in A.E.U.G level rationality.

Kill Kira: Gilbert decides that violence is the only way to fix humanity and uses Machivalian plans to erase anything he views could ruin the looming peace he has created on Earth and Space.

Seed Destiny's ending was one of the most low stake, low effort and droll way how to end a series possible. Also as insufferable as Shinn was for the most part of Destiny, at least it a new character with a diffrent story. We saw Kira's road come to an end at Seed, and unlike Amuro in Zeta Gundam, Kira has no reason to be acting as a terrorist (His estate getting attacked aside, Lacus already seemed to have Mobile Suit production under way prior to that attack since the Freedom was repaired and the Strike Freedom and Infinite Justice being developed, which shows she had some intentions to get back into the fray eventually.)

I've always thought it would have been amazing if Kira died when Assram self-destructed the Aegis on him. Assram could have taken over as protagonist and formed a new faction due to guilt over killing his best friend. It could have been a ballsy and daring twist for a Gundam series.

To say nothing of he fact that it implies that while she was supposedly running an orphanage in peace and seclusion she was also acting as the spymaster for an espionage ring that repeatedly stole weapons blueprints to develop them for their own use. It created these huge implications for her character, but the writers didn't even realise, they only added it because they needed a source for some new mobile suits for them.

Conflicting reports about Ending B and Ending D being thought of as the real endings. Ending B would have just been Seed's ending all over again, only with the Three Ships Alliance being an enemy faction instead of completely in the right.

Ending D where Rey turncoats was apparently supposed to lead into a story arc where the Minervia crew ends up joining alongside the Eternal and Archangel to uncover the true motive behind Gilberts real plan. Essentially Gilbert was behind the Junius 7 drop and wanted tensions between Earth and Space to lure out LOGOS, giving Naturals and Coordinators a common enemy to fight. After LOGOs would be wiped out, he imagined both sides would come to respect one another and more open trade and communications would come about, leading to cross breeding and a more sustainable government. The sacrifice of millions and a publicly accepted lie to ensure mankinds preservation and an answer to the sterility issue plaguing the Coordinators.

Again, all of this mearly rumors however, Very much in the vein of many of the changes and cuts to the original Seed. For Example...

The Strike Rouge Gundam was originally going to be given to Flay, who is turned into a Biological CPU. With her power to genocide coordinators, she eventually is sent on a suicide mission to destroy the Archangel with a bomb inside of her stomach. During the battle of Jachine Due, she returns to the Archangel and meets again with her ex-boyfriend Sai. Without knowing about the bomb, he tries to rekindle the relationship. While Flay wants to make amends for what she has done, she decides to detonate the explosive in her body, crippling the Archangel and killing herself and Sai.

Still, no way how to confirm many of these rumors though.

Without massive rewrites no. If the story remained as is, just with Kira dying then Durandal and Shinn would have become the new world overlords instead of Kira and Lacus.

They also would have been even bigger invincible sues than Kira and Lacus were since literally everything would have gone perfectly for Durandal to kill all his enemies and take over the world and Shinn would not have lost a single fight the entire show.

The funniest part is that in addition to making much more sense than the actual plot, in the series proper this actually all played out perfectly...only for Gil to toss it all away for his 'real' plan.

It was obvious that the writing staff realized that they put Z.A.F.T and Gilbert to much in the right during the events of Destiny, so they had no choice but to throw in that whole Destiny Plan bit to validate Kira and Crews attack against them.

However, the writing was so awful for Destiny that event the Destiny Plan, as moronic as it was presented to the public, was a helluva lot better than Lacus just kicking in the front door and calling herself supreme leader. Earth is still devastated by Junius 7 and the LOGOs genocides across the Middle East and Europe has only made the situation even worse for mankind to recover. under the Destiny Plan, something existed to try and mend that relationship and to move into aiding mankind to recover. Lacus's plan? Let ORB handle that shit and curb stomp anyone who decides to rise up with an issue, justified or not.

The game outright warns you during that mission where you are fighting Stella and Kira that Stella is the real threat and focusing on Kira would prove nothing. If you choose to listen to the game, you get Either Best ending, or a moderately good ending. If you choose to ignore the warning and focus on Kira to save Stella, you seal your fate onto a bad ending and a more open ended, but generally still horseless ending.
