This scene in particular is more about how he killed Aston but later Mika deemed Radice as the traitor and seemed fairly torlerant (or less cold) to Mcgillis later.

So, with the S2 retooling, which one of them is the Char now? Based on S1 I would have expected McGillis to be the final boss of the show, but with Gaelio having a literal mask and secret identity for more than just three appearances, and with McGillis cooperating with Orga even more, the ending is starting to become open to more possibilities.

I wouldn't take alliance into account to determine how Char they each are because they could easily trade places by the end of the season, Tekadan alliancing with Mecha Gali.
Vidar is like UC 79 Char, semi secret identitied Legacy fallen from grace trying to get back his prestige (and a little revenge) thru war time politics.
ChocoChar is more like a later Char, back on top, friendly with the protagonist but still fucking with everyone for what ever his end game is.

I'm interested in where all this is going. Let's recap:

>Calamity War happens a long time ago, Gjallarhorn wins and dominates human space
>Earth nations, colonies, and Mars all chafe because Gjallarhorn gets powerful and corrupt
>Kudelia and Tekkadan manage to cause a political shakeup and make a deal with Arbrau
>Mars' fortunes improve, Gjallarhorn gets humbled and Arbrau and other nations and factions want to militarize
>Arbrau raises its own defense force and Gjallarhorn's Arianhod Fleet decides to mess with this by infiltrating the Arbrau defense force and making them spark a border conflict with another nation, the SAU. They use this to lure McGillis, a political rival, into mediating the conflict where they can assassinate him.
>After the fight Arbrau's defense force seems to have been demolished and Tekkadan had to travel through SAU territory so it's possible they made some sort of deal there, I think we can ignore Arbrau's ambitions for now

So okay, the whole point of this chain of events is the power struggle between McGillis and Arianhod, but Mars and Kudelia are obviously going to factor in to some sort of independence movement. Her actions started the fire. Problem is, Mars is a shithole and the only military force she can call on is Tekkadan unless we're going to get some long-ass recruiting pirates and mercs arc.

Then there's the ancient mobile suits they dug up in the mine. Gjallarhorn's never seemed to care much about Gundams in the show yet, but we know from ep previews the "big one" they find gets McGillis attention. If I had to guess it might be some special machine related to that Gjallarhorn founder. Maybe Mikazuki links with it with the AV system and it gives him memories of the past?

Anyway I'm enjoying myself. Original stories are always fun to watch as they air.

I was thinking about what makes Gundam so boring to watch and I figured it out, outside of obviously having a bad script (eg characters no one cares about dying like that fat kid).

There's also really no real conflict here, every time Gundam comes on screen you know he's gonna win, I mean yeah sure good guys in shows and movies usually win but we at least get the pretext that villain is an equal match or can a couple hits in but this show doesn't even bother with that, Gundam literally just flies in kills everyone by himself and also has like 50 others guys shooting defenseless villains in the middle of running away.

If he wasn't so kind and so insistent on seeing the good in everyone I do believe there'd have been far more friction between Tekkadan and the Arbrau forces earlier on before the SAU-Arbrau shitfit, which could've caused its own brand of problems.

Fundamentally though that trait of his was a weakness when he was forced to assume leadership position for Tekkadan-Earth, and it didn't help that Aston was about as willing to roll over to a more dominant leader on the battlefield as Takaki was.

Like, if you stop to think about it, the dynamic between Takaki and Aston mirrors that of Orga and Mikazuki, but in a way that demonstrates how such a deep trust to the point of never really questioning the judgment of one another can go horribly wrong.

Really though the impressive part is how Takaki can have that much childhood innocence and naivete this far into the show so as to warrant getting slapped across the head with a loss of innocence story.
