Looking through some Japanese sites, I can't help but feel that 3/4th (if not more) of the jokes and references are lost to non-Japanese watchers who then basically only catch the fart jokes.

It's one of those shows that you either love the fuck out of it or hate with the power of a thousand suns - there's no in between.
Although I have to admit, the first two episodes were a bit TOO random compared to the other episodes and sometimes it's really hard to watch due to the constant barrage of crazy shit.

Yeah, it's pretty prominent in the sneak peek in the first episode along with a lot of other spoilers like Victrinity, Vocammy being nothing but a suit, Norio etc.
The show will definitely go off the rails later on when the real shit is going down.

This weeks episode is out.

Heybot pretending to be a baby because he was lazy as fuck didn't really go anywhere - they played it pretty straight for the entire episode. The jealous green boar wasn't funny, it was a very moralist sub plot that (in comparison to previous episodes) would have fit better in a more typical kids series.

Sort of hope there wasn't any intervention on the part of sponsors to change the show because this episode didn't have anywhere near the ADHD-ridden charm of previous episodes.

Really says something about this show's coherence when it's possibly considered too random for even modern anime. At least the PTA didn't force a cancellation for this show.

But then again, the silliness might just be a front for a more serious plot later on.

the only thing missing was the episode sidetracking into some unrelated bullshit again.

Wonder if episode 10 is going to start with Heybot being kicked out of the ship and do a faceplant while Nejiru has somehow learned self-sufficiency in the interlude and breaks what he was working on.
