The only thing that seems to largely hold back the show is the CotD focus. Each week has been about helping patients whose backstories are either incredibly boring or cringey to the point where Wizard's CotDs would seem less bad if they didn't get 2-parters worth of focus. For example, just from this episode, I could hardly give a fuck about the girl and her Sayaka-Miki problem with her boyfriend. I know CotDs have to be part of the formula for the doctor theme of the show, but it feels like they could have made them either interesting or maybe incorporate a worthwhile moral message like they used to do with OOO.

Nah, I went back and rewatched the episodes to this point over the two-week break, and I was impressed at how much you could infer about characterization from just five episodes.

Ex-Aid has some problems (already getting tired of the Lvl 1. forms and you can tell they're still trying to figure out how to hurry up all the stock footage transformations to get through the episode) but I really like the characters a lot. Can't wait for Lazer's focus next week.

Eh, it is a pretty big plot twist, but considering that Rider shows run for 40-50 episodes, dropping that to mark the shift into the mid-part of the plot works really well.

But yeah I can see the comparison to Wizard, especially since both plot twists in question were relatively obvious (Gaim's moreso if you're familiar with Urobuchi's work), so it hurts Wizard worse to drag it out.

It´s ok, it manages to have some shit going on among the toy shilling, and they try to make all riders interesting/plot relevant(whether they end up suceeding is up in the air) which sometimes make the "victim of the week" part very minor in some episodes(not a bad thing). Action is ok.

As for whether it´s better than Ghost, the show is still beggining, but if we compare Ghost as of episode 6 then yeah, it´s better since Ghost hasnt gotten to its good portion yet.

I've watched the first two episodes, and while I'm enjoying it ... I can't get over the character designs.

The rider designs are pretty bad, ranging from "God Awful" to "Ehh ..." and I cannot stand the ugly level 1 modes. This leaks into the fight scenes too. The weapons are the most toy-ish I've seen and the final attacks are much less hype than the other shows I've watched.

Is it just me? Am I wrong to let such a superficial thing stop me from enjoying the series? Do we see less of the crap stuff in later episodes? Is it worth grinning and bearing it?

Dude, Peachy made one for literally every transformation, I have no idea how she was making them at such high speeds in such amounts every week, a single webm is like 5+ minutes of work making sure it looks okay and then all the compilations when it doesn't. I've made a bunch of webms since the series started though, just check any of the release threads if you want them, just don't expect every single transformation every week like Peachy did, I do the new ones and the occasional cool double/triple stuff where you can hear your ears bleeding.

It's an option in Webm for Retards to take it from an mkv file to load an external one. If you're doing it manually through ffmpeg then be sure to turn -vf scale=X:X into -vf scale=X:X,ass=<Name>.ass and place -ss and -t AFTER -i

Dude, it came out like a week after webms were added. It's still a mess though, sometimes it can't find the audio in files so you have to do the manual ffmpeg method, and sometimes the sub timing is off so you have to do it manually. A couple Megaranger and Abaranger episodes gave me that problem for example, you have to do it the long way with ffmpeg.

I like Ex-Aid and i don't mind the Level 1 forms but one of my favorite parts of Rider is the henshin and seeing what comes after a henshin, its just badass in my books, plain fucking badass.

Unfortunately as cute as level 1 are they are not badass or inspire awe like a regular form would do and that honestly takes me a little out of the pre-battle hype.
