In episode 4, how come the Jesta pilots stop Kirks from killing himself, just to slash off the zaku's limbs and shoot the thrusters and have him fall to his death? I actually just got done watching this yesterday. My initial thoughts were "holy fuck this is so bad" but by episode 3 is starts to turn around, but I feel like they really bungled what could have been an even better series.

As buttblasted as I was about the Tarrington fight, it was enjoyable as fuck, and they took small points to explain why Zeon bungled and fucked it all up while making you care about the characters and having old suits show up was hype as fuck.

It feels like they didn't know how to start or end the series, just that they wanted a couple cool fight scenes and wanted to celebrate Gundam/Universal Century. Watching episode 1 I thought Banagher was going to side with Neo Zeon given that ECOSA/Feddies basically ambush the trade deal, fight inside the colony with little regard, and kill banagher's dad + friends. Then he ends up working with them in an openly hostile environment with pretty much no justification to stick around, even after they fight inside another colony, something he was buttblasted about an episode ago, he still sticks with them.

Also the crying was the worst part, the amount of vomiting and crying by ace pilots was just stupid, it interrupts the action and bogs everything down for dumb shit. And the random ending against Neo Zeong didn't help much either. But Episode 3, 4, 5 and 6 were fun though.

My one problem with the series is that it all seems so meaningless. Like, a problem with plenty of Tomino-written Gundam shows is that the decisions made by the characters are inexplicable. (Compared to something like Aldonah Zero, which is immensely boring but makes sense.)

Here, the whole conflict was pointless! The guys who made the Unicorn deliberately instigated it for no apparent reason, because the Box is far too late to change anything! If he'd really given a shit, he would have handed over to box to Gihren Zabi or something.

Now, after Zeon is in ruins? What's he trying to accomplish? The *threat* of the Box is literally more effective than the contents of it, which is why Audrey's speech comes to absolutely fucking nothing.

Pacing, I think and unclear motivations. Sure theres a shit ton of exposition but it would be better if peoples motivations made sense enough for them to not have to be constantly talking for you to understand why they mught want what they want.

At some points it almost seems like compilation movie pacing and content jamming- most likely do to the way they adapted it without thinking about what changes might make it work better as a story told in a certain number of OVA size chunks.

Zeon was half-right about the souls weighed down by gravity. Lack of it causes them to fly off and turn into crazed monsters. Given the habits of Spacenoids to either be genocidal psychotic mass murderers or support them...

I agree, apparently Tomino is known for being hard to understand even in Japanese due to his writing style but the dialogue on Unicorn was just on another level (and not in a good way).

It feels like a lot of the characters end up saying way more than they need to in order to get simple ideas across but rather than sounding philosophical or intellectual like it's trying to it just seems muddled and try-hard.

I still enjoyed Unicorn overall but I just wish they would have trimmed the dialogue.

It's a fine, well crafted story with amaxing music, voice acting, and story telling, you do not, i repeat, DO NOT need to be versed in much of UC history at all to appreciate it, the story does a god job of hand holding viewers through the important bits, eg, when we first meet our hero Banagher he is sitting in a history lecture, this 30 second scene does alot of set up what you may be interested in regarding the history of conflict in UC

Why would she be? She's bland, she's 1-dimensional, she goes through no development, and she's largely a plot device rather then an actual character. 90% of her lines are exposition spouting then anything else.
