I dunno, Eva didn't get as out there with the namesake units, and those fuckers are pretty much god-entities kept comatose by their human handlers.

But it does reinforce Fafner's setting to have the machines be decisively off in visual aesthetic.

Gothicmades aren't ugly.

They're weird-looking, sure, but I've grown to like them. Took a while to tell them apart though.

But I think it fits, they're basically aliens forcefully stuffed into metal shells.
