Is there any really good mecha manga, or is the genre mainly confined to anime? The only /m/anga I think I've seen discussed here is Linebarrel, and I much prefer the pace of reading a Nipponese picture book to watching one.
Five Star Stories is top tier
Obvious Getter Robo everything and FSS, and I've heard good things about Overman King Gainer.
Full Metal Panic is also okay.
Oh yeah, I think Armored Core manga was okay too.
Break Blade comes to mind

One that I don't see brought up a lot in terms of manga only works is Exaxxion, and I won't admit it's perfect, but what it does right it does really well.

red eyes and break age
a bit cheating but Evangelion had a manga adaptation that expanded a bit on the anime and was pretty good.
But yeah, it's mainly like "re-watching" the anime with some extra content

what is with that doms waist

He got Obari'd.

It's the SCM EX Dom, a prize figure by Banpresto.
mecha VNs are pretty great, not manga though

It's not like there are many translations of either. That's why this is such a difficult question
And of the handful of translated mecha VNs, the only ones that aren't total shit are Demonbane and maybe that one starring Nikola Tesla. Haven't read that one.

Gundam The Origin is top tier, but you're gonna have to shill out $360 for the whole set.

I fucking love Kondo's 0079 manga, its legit as good as the Origin one, although it mostly sticks to the usual storyline. Pity they dropped it before it was all translated.

I've always wondered what The O would look like as non-thicc and I gotta say i'm disapointed

The-O is basically an inverted Zeta Gundam.
