That's a contradiction. Being a contrarian is rejecting the popular opinion. A show that is overrated, is a show that is highly rated by the majority beyond the rating it merits. It's literally a popular show that happens to be shitty. Therefore, calling something overrated is also being a contrarian, because it's rejecting the popular opinion.

I consider pretty awesome compared to the rest.
Opinion not limited to Oshii's adaptation, include manga & SAC. No opinion on the "prequel" Arise, I didn't see it yet but it didn't look like a good idea.

Arise, with the additional episodes, and the movie are definitely looking at yourself if you haven't --other than the character designs, which are...pretty bad.

A lotta people seem to dislike it, but it's a really tight script with some good commentary on cyberization and the like.

Also, other than her design, the Major is tip top.

Since when was relying on and working with a crack team incompetent? She still solves all the cases and uses her very wide range of skills to make the difference. Oh did I mention teamwork? It has teamwork.

Also, it's not a prequel to S.A.C. or '95, there are just some visual nods to previous scenes from prior installments. Her origin and some story beats in Arise are just irreconcilable with the other works. So rejoice! it is in fact "not muh".

The Major is NOT overrated garbage! she's a very cute girl who deserves every bit of appreciation she gets, even if she's kind of irresponsible, hotheaded, gullible, dishonest, bad-tempered, violent, obsessive, short-sighted, alcoholic, perverted, unruly, bossy, self-righteous, untrustworthy and not as great as Deunan.
