I'm cautiously optimistic. I want to see what the 2199 series Kodai can do as a captain. I can sound heretic, but I prefer the 2199 Kodai over the original Kodai.

Also, being a remake of the Comet Empire saga, what could be the chances of the cast bodycount really piling now?

I liked 2199 Kodai too, although I do agree with the he could be a bit bland. I think he only really started to shine in the movie when he took on more of a leadership role.

What made me like the new Kodai was the episode where the Yamato is leaving our galaxy and so the communication with earth will be soon lost. In the original series Kodai is all over the ship, grumpy, telling people to go back to work, and almost screaming that nobody understand his pain. In 2199 he deals more quietly with his pain and even volunteer to do others part of the work in the ship, so they can speak with their families.

But yeah, he being more calm in 2199 really made him look quite bland sometimes, even if I prefer characters like this, specialy in military fiction.

Pretty much. Though I don't know if they wait 3-4 months between Movies or 6 months and longer.

The seven "Garden of Sinners" movies needed only a bit more than 1 1/2 years to all come out. 2 years after the first on released you could get them all on DVD / BD.

Lets hope Yamato does the same.

I liked all series, each on their own way, so I would say yes. But you would need to be open mind to the experience. The original series is a classic made in the middle of the 70's, so it is already quite dated in some aspects, like animation and development. Even so, many of the series combat are still very cool, in a way that they are not so one sided and have some creative moves from both the Yamato and her enemies.

The last recent series, 2199, make some changes in the original story, that I think are generally for the best, and have some great space naval action sequences, but it uses alot of CGI for that.

If you want some Space Opera/Space war drama, Yamato could be your thing.

Welp, at least the new series director is the same guy who directed episode 9 and 19 in 2199.

For those that dont remember; episode 9 is the one where Analyzer have a existential conversation with the combat android that they captured in the saturnian moon, and episode 19 is the one where Domel gets the mission to destroy Yamato and we have that "Battle of the Bulge" like scene.

If she starts getting all of Yamamoto's scenes that showed him jobbing through the season, then start worrying about her.

It's so odd how he always seemed to be the fall guy through no fault of his own. Even the one time a jet was stolen it just happened to be his own. And then he was killed off at the end. You'd think that bad luck to someone who was previously pretty much a background character would be building up to him succeeding, but no.

Not happening, because Harlock is owned by Leiji Matsumoto. These new Yamato remakes started exactly after he lost the rights to the franchise.

In the Leiji Yamato manga, Harlock was Mamoru secretly kept alive by machines, and he would need to be mechanized more and more in the future in order to be kept alive, which is quite different from the actual Harlock character in other stories.
