Oh please, it's not like Tomino can shape the fandom's own opinion on the matter.
Late UC is not hated, it's just not developped at all. Blame Sunrise/Bandai not Tomino.
Of course it doesn't help that Japan's most die hard Gundam otakus have a hard dick for Char and Amuro so unless you create clones from their dna floating around in UC 200 or so, you have to come up with new genuine characters and storylines. In other terms you need to be inventive and this is anathema to fans and Bandai/Sunrise alike. Seriouly why the fuck do you think we're submerged by thousands of zeon uprisings in the span of 5 years or so ? Because that's the only timespace where you can insert Char and Amuro in any capacity.

Late UC is nothing but bland invincible protagonist with practically magic suits shitting on 1D villains.

Because it doesn't really expound on anything. F91 and Victory are very much isolated stories and are so temporally removed from early-UC that they're practically their own AUs where nothing from early-UC mattered. At the same time they are beholden to the events from early-UC which means they can't retcon anything even though those events have nothing to do with story being told. That's why the AUs were created: By essentially rebooting the story, they are no longer constrained by the stuff that came before.

It's too far out from the politics of UC to appeal to those UC fans, but it's too Tomino to appeal to AU fans.

It's because Zeonfags can't handle the fact that late UC basically tells everyone that Zeon wasn't some be all, end all, group meant to lead humanity into the future.

That Zeon was just another group of radicals who ultimately fade into obscurity.

It hits too close to home in regards to Japan's fate, since Zeonfags in Japan tend to self insert Japan into Zeon.

Late UC is also the decline and collapse of the federation as well. Honestly it's probably a worse end considering that the federation basically just became so corrupt and weak that the colonies could declare independence and the federation couldn't do anything. Late UC is just a depressing decline of once powerful states.

Zeon is the only faction in UC Gundam with personality and charm, though. The Federation, while obviously the "good guys", have always been a boring monolith, and the replacement antagonist factions are pretty dull as well.

Because when it comes to the Gundam fandom, people just don't like or aren't able to handle things that are different

When it comes to AU series, people are free to complain when the series goes too far from feeling like "Gundam", but can complain whenever the series does anything too similar to another Gundam series.
Hell, they had to change the sound effects on Gundam AGE's beam rifles, because they sounded different.

But Latter UC brings up a different problem. It's apart of the UC timeline, but it's different. Everything in Early UC is ancient history, and people treat it as such. No one feels the ned to bring up Amuro, Char or Zeon in some random converstation, because they have their own problems to worry about. Nobody cares about where Jaburo is, or what's going on in Torrington.

It's the same planet, it has the same sides, and advanced technology from earlier series, but it's a new world

Hell, there are even less newtypes running around. Because without people pushing them around as weapons of war or about how they'll save humanity, nobody fucking cares.
Add that both Latter UC projects had issues in making them (F91 turned from a series to an episode, executive meddling in Victory Gundam), and that's that.

Why do you think Gundam Unicorn was so damn popular? It's exactly what people want to see out of UC Gundam. The same shit over and over again.
I mean, besides the great animation and musical score, of course..
