The protagonists have 6 types of suits, not 2. Which is actually slightly better than the protagonists in 0079 for instance, who only have 5 in the Ball, the Guntank, Guncannon, Gundam and GM. That's the same in most shows. AEUG in Zeta have only a few more between the Mk II, Zeta, Methuss, Hyaku Shiki, Rick Dias, Nemo and a few GMs and GM IIs. There's some variants of those, but the same is true of most shows, including Victory. The Dijeh exists too, but that's Karaba, not AEUG, and still only makes 9 even if you count them all.

Victory suits are so much smaller and faster and beam spammy than earlier suits that the Sinanju would be a slow poke. Also, everyone has beam shields so much that vulcans came back into use.

The only way for Char to win would be to poke with his bazooka since UC 120 suis have little armor against physical damage.

Even with that ability it still wouldn't have the speed or maneuverability of the Victory, nor it's beam shields and output. It'd also still be a larger target, though hardier against solid weaponry. The Victory has 60 odd years development on the Sinanju and it shows.

the core fighter isn't ass, nor are its docked parts in not-MS mode. the choppers seem better than their transformed selves. the bikers... are uh, random. not sure who or what they're supposed to take on? still neat. people on the top of trucks shooting shit and being somewhat effective is very nice. and the "frying pan" not being a MS but a more than decent rear support vehicle is great too.

It's the darker older brother of G-Reco and Turn A. There's a lot of deaths in that show and is extremely depressing, but you get the sense of family and love before you get utterly torn apart. The mobile suits are quite unique like the Victory and other LM/Zanscare designs. I really do recommend it, as it is a pretty decent story.

Was I the only person whose jaw dropped over just how amazing that episode handled that drama? It's episodes like that where the direction jacks up to 10/10 kino quality that make Tomino animes and Gundam worth watching, aside from the mecha/technical porn of course.

It would have been so hardcore on Tomino's part if he just let Fuala die after thar.

The "enemy angry bitch pilot battling her conscience and doing things out a fear of failure" archetype is one of my favorites. Lieutenant Poe from Turn A would be another example.

What the fuck was the point of the extra armor in Assault Buster mode? I get the backpack had extra weapons and the shield was shown off, but the remaining Shrike Team just snapping gold trim onto the V2 made it seem uncharacteristically toyetic and meaningless.

I do like that Uso got to keep the V2 at the end though, whether it was that he wanted it or had nobody else to give it back to. Not many Gundam protags get to keep their suits in the end.

I found that despite the darker tone, Victory Gundam is easier to marathon than something like Zeta Gundam. Important stuff happens every episode to drive the plot forward. The characters do things that either make sense or are easy to sympathize with (other Gundam shows will feature character saying one thing and doing another, which may be realistic, but is difficult to follow and taxing to keep track of).

I also appreciate the stylistic change to the mobile suits. It's cool that they tried something new with the bug influence. It's not my favorite, but it's at least interesting.

I'm still not sure what's up with the decision to make the Victory Gundam transformable. It looks really awkward transformed and made for some strange story logic. Like, multiple episodes where tension revolved around getting the Gundam assembled in a fight. It just makes the viewer go "Uh... why not just keep it assembled?"
