I appreciate the revision as well though. Kira knew he was killing people all along, but he may have known that Athrun was friends with everyone on the Le Creuset team. I can imagine Kira being more resistant about killing them but, upon realizing they're trying to kill him too, ultimately defended himself to kill Nicol.

That really was by far the worst thing about Destiny for me and a lot of people. The first few episodes are genuinely pretty good. For a while there, it looked like we were really gonna get a follow-up to SEED that addressed its shortcomings and played to its strengths. The betrayal that was felt as things quickly fell apart was almost tangible.
>>14898590
>>14898583

>>14898621
I actually think it lingered in the "faltering, but still pretty ok" phase for a long enough time that it made things worse when it cratered. I was honestly still on board until Strike Freedom.
I would defend the first cour forever.
>>14898621
I liked the colony drop arc
>>14896291
It's essentially the same story but a lot of the nuances in the original >>14890857 were retconned in the remaster to better tie it to Destiny's "sensibilities".
And since I prefer Destiny never existed, I'm sticking with the original which works (and was originally intended) as a standalone story.
>>14896291
As balls as the video quality of the original dvd versions is now, I would absolutely recommend them over the remasters
Any improvements to the video quality are more than cancelled out by the story revisions
>>14896291
If you want to understand WHY the show's so controversial among the fanbase, watch the original. A lot of the impact is lost in the remaster's attempts to "update" show to look better than it actually was (and in some cases make it WORSE).

Also, have you never seen hiraiface?
>>14898770
Kek. Left (original), right (remaster).
>>14898770
Left is the original, right the remaster.
The thing with Seed was it came out at a time where reanimating scenes or fixing things for the dvd version didn't happen so much, so there's things like episodes where the characters are off model in the final version.
The remaster as well as converting to high definition attempted to make things more on model, but does it with Destiny's character designs which had changed from the originals. The newer looking designs clash and don't make it look better.
>>14898802
>it came out at a time where reanimating scenes or fixing things for the dvd version didn't happen so much
Dude, SEED (and particularly Destiny) set records on the number of things they changed/fixed from the broadcast to DVD version.
>>14898807
Got some examples?
>>14898807
Uh, no the first Seed didn't?
>>14898814

>>14898779

I had to look that one up, that's hilarious. I thought it was a lazy production, vs lazy design.
>>14898851
Don't worry, every time that comparison image comes up, someone always asks. Sometimes I think it's trolling, but there are people who genuinely can't tell... which doesn't speak well for the quality of the remaster.
Also, the remaster has some awful-looking scenes, just as bad as that awful Disney remaster of Sword in the Stone that had super fucked up denoise and sharpening effects amped up to 11.

Blue Cosmos was right: Coordinators are threat to human civilization. Race War Now!
SEED is perfect when you want to watch classic MSG but can't cope with the 70's art/ animation style
>>14890857
>>14890865
I haven't watched SEED but I don't understand this. There is absolutely nothing wrong with counterattacking, especially if your life is on the line. Why is everyone acting so shocked? It's a war. They signed up for this. Even if you believe in turn the other cheek that doesn't really apply if you die if you don't act.
>>14907918
It's not counterattacking anymore. In the original version of Seed, Kira *does* defend himself by counterattacking with the giant sword.
In the remastered edition, they rewrote it so that Kira actually tries to move the blade -away- from the guy to prevent him from dying but the guy still runs into it. It's a clumsy edit that doesn't make sense. Green hair is now a retard that literally ran into a giant sword even though Kira was trying to save him from killing himself.
Look at the scene closer - in the new version, Kira moves the sword away from him (the energy blade is actually pointing away) but then the sword flips 180 degrees and the energy blade is now facing toward the guy again when he kills himself.
>>14907988
I'm more talking about how he's fucking shocked that he killed someone, despite it being perfectly valid self defense. Again, I haven't watched SEED so I don't know why he and the guy in red looks so distraught.

both dark blue hair and brown hair were friends before the war and got caught on opposite sides. Green hair is the friend of the dark blue hair guy and they had a whole bonding episode before this. Dark blue hair also had a sorta-bonding moment with brown hair just before this battle.
Basically "my old friend killed my new friend," something they were building up for a while in the show cause almost every other battle ended with fairly minor damage to both sides besides some dead grunts.
Its drama for dramas sake since brown haired dude has killed dozens of people already, but its this one special guy he kills that sorta disturbs him, and he didn't even know the guy.

>>14921887
Okay, here's something I've toyed around in my head before.
Lead is the son of Kira and Lacus, but that is not apparent at first. It's actually something he wants to keep hidden. He's traveling around the world in an attempt to get away from all the pressures of being their kid (again, revealed later) when ZAFT attacks the place he's in. Like, he's legit confused at what is going on and what people around him are saying because to him, ZAFT is merely trying to keep war from breaking out again.
Anyway, due to the circumstances he tries to use a civilian mobile suit to help with the evacuation effort. However, a ZAFT pilot confuses his attempt for trying to open a path for pilots to get to the nearby hangar and attacks. Kira Jr. manages to get out of his machine before it's taken down, where he finds the latest RX-78-2 clone and manages to force the attackers to retreat.
However, this forces ZAFT to target this area more heavily while Lacus goes to the media talking about how the nation is promoting war. Kira Jr. is brought onto a new ship and the series begins in proper as it examines how the guys on the other side of Kira's guns would view him. Can people be led astray by good intentions?
anyone know that PS2 game Generation of C.E.?
there's so many MS i didn't know before. dozens of dagger variations and 5 different Blue Frames. there's also Kira's clone or something, he pilots gundam with giant beam shield.
the BGM pretty great too
>>14921956
That's actually pretty interesting. If I may suggest a name for the protagonist, to allude to his heritage he could be named Hikaru Bannou. Hikaru means "to glow," while Bannou means universal or omnipotent. As for the main suit, I was thinking it could be something similar to the F91, capable of producing after images with mass. I was also thinking Kira, Lacus, and ORB could be the main villain faction this time around, with the grunt suits being Hi-Zacks or Geara Dogas
>>14922004
Not villains, antagonists. They're opposing Hikaru and his newfound friends, but they're doing what they honestly believe to be the right thing for the good of the world. That they are keeping the world from destroying itself through their actions. As time goes on, Hikaru (and by proxy, the audience) begins to see this in a different light than what Destiny painted it as, and Hikaru in the end must challenge his father in open his eyes.
Also, main rival is the son of Athrun and Cagalli who is determined to "save" Hikaru. Hikaru also has a Natural love interest.
>>14922221
For setting I'm thinking it could be in the time frame of C.E.91, Once Hikaru gains his new suit, he eventually sides with the new main faction or "good guys" which are akin to a resistance or militia of sorts, neither alliance members nor ZAFT. The mid season upgrade is hinted early on with the testing of a weapon known as the Icarus device, which produces something similar to a moonlight butterfly.
The mid season upgrade suit would combine elements of both mid season suits from prior series, as well as utilize the Icarus system. It would be developed as a sort of reset switch MS, something that was supposed to be used by Kira to wipe the world of all electronics and machinery, then enslave humanity under the guise of "protection". The suit would be called either the Strike Destiny or the Icarus Gundam. Hikaru first takes off in it not from a ship, but from a top secret bunker underground. The Icarus system creates what are known as "wings of the sun" that can cause superheated gusts of wind and release EMPs
>>14922003
Not clone, Canard is basically the prototype Kira.
>>14922221
> main rival is the son of Athrun and Cagalli who is determined to "save" Hikaru
So, in the follow up season, they beat up Shinn's kid?
>>14922966
Meyrin was pretty cute.
>>14898761
> A lot of the impact is lost in the remaster's attempts to "update" show to look better than it actually was (and in some cases make it WORSE).
They sure "updated" Kira to have those luscious dick sucking lips.
>>14922243
Don't care for this really. I'd see Lacus as more, I dunno, I'd see her using Terminal for other purposes. Like manipulating information so that people Lacus approves of get into office in the name of creating a more peaceful Earth. Maybe even rigging an election so that someone they view as a warmonger doesn't win despite public support. Something like a Moonlight Butterfly is too direct in my opinion.
>>14922474
I was thinking more Shinn acts as a mentor to Hikaru under an alias. He recognized where ZAFT was heading under Lacus, so he and Luna faked their deaths to join the resistance. He has a rematch against Athrun at the end of the series where he calls the SEED cast blind.
I actually like the Bannou thing. Kira's name, Yamato, refers to the dominate ethnicity of Japan. The one that suppressed and assimilated other cultures. Orb is Fukuda's idealized Japan, and the show loves to harp on how great it and it's values are.
Kira represents just thinking about the good of one's nation, while Hikaru is more about looking at the bigger, all-encompassing picture for the good of all humanity.
>>14917561
ZAFT has very loose regulations. They're a well funded volunteer militia. It's why ranking pilots get a lot of customization options for their mobile suits and uniforms.
>>14890827
Green shirt guy's eyes disappear in the remaster.
>>14923367
It's the Bright Noa eyes. All of descendants of Bright Noa and Mirai have those eyes. Every character in Gundam with those kind of eyes are their descendants.

>>14890837

But unless the only thing you care about is Kira losing it's not a good fight at all.
>>14908423
paddy pls go
>>14908107
For one the whole thing comes off as tragically unnecessery. Kira had defeated Athrun (the red guy) to the point that his Gundam powered down, and since they were only friends, and his mission is just to get to a certain area and not just kill every enemy he sees, was almost certainly not going to finish him off, but the other guy (who has no idea Kira and Athrun are friends and that Kira is actually not a racist evil asshole like they assume everyone in the Earth Forces is) basically suicides himself into Kira to save a guy that was in no danger of actually dying.
>>14890837
>when his entire gundam exploded like wtf
didn't happen.
The big explosion was from the Tannhauser shot hitting the water. When the blast wave approaches the Minerva you can still see the thin red from the shot fading out.
Shinn penetrated Kira's reactor but Kira activated the Neutron Jammer Canceller Canceller so it wouldn't explode. The Tannhouser explosion made everyone (including you) think that the Freedom blew.
Lewd
>>14924800
Was the reactor even in the "abdomen" of the suit though? Do we see Kira deactivating the reactor (can't remember)?
Maybe Shinn assumes that the cockpit is located at the same place as the Impulse, while in the Freedom it's quite higher (in the thorax rather than the abdomen.

>>14924974
Based off the specs we see in Seed, yeah, and we already know Freedom and Justice (and their sucessors) have a different cockpit layout that every other suit as a result.
And the follow ep when we see Cagalli fishing Freedom's cockpit out of the water we see an Unconsious Kira's hand on the reactors cut off switch.
Though given that Shinn studied up on the Freedom and Zaft has it's specs, he should have known this going in.
>>14929805
Shinn should also know where the cockpit of a GOUF is, but that didn't stop him from failing to kill Athrun either.
Either Shinn secretly has a no-kill rule that only applies against named characters, or his competency is dialed down a notch or three when fighting Kira/Athrun.
>>14929774
I love both the Freedom and Strike Freedom.
>>14929813
I would have buy him not really wanting to kill Athrun for instance. He was really conflicted about it, plus it also meant killing the sister of his love interest, which wasn't a friend of him but a comrade nonetheless.
I could see him missing the GOUF's cockpit on purpose. Now as said, he studied the Freedom, so him striking where he did with the sword is stupid. Or he thought that since they were in the ocean and since the Archangel had blown up, just disableing the suit would be enough... alas he didn't know that it doesn't suffice against Jesus Yamato.

>>14924895

>>14924800
You mean deactivated, right? Because a nuclear reactor on its own is physically incapable of exploding. The nuclear fuel used in fission power generation doesn't have the reactivity to explode. The only way it could explode would be if the N-Jammer Canceller was increasing the reaction rate of the process too much, overcompensating for the N-Jammer decreasing the reaction rate.
>>14930874
Actual nuclear physics has no influence on how CE tech operates.
>>14930884
It should. N-Jammers are nonsense, and the story actually works a lot better without them. They offer nothing to the setting other than some vague "nuclear power/weapons are bad" theme, which is barely explored. There's no plot element that the N-Jammers set up that can't be done better with a little more detailed world-building. But instead they went with this magical super-technology so they could take the lazy way out.

Both he and the number one student (Rey) specficially made a plan to destroy that one specific suit using the data from it.
The cockpit being in a different spot is something they should have accounted for.
>>14941338
Was this academy stuff mentioned in the anime? Don't remember that...
Like I said, he attacked the lower part out of habit. But you're right. If you plan to fight one specific machine you should know where the cockpit is
>>14941367
There's a flashback here and there in a few episodes. I don't recall if they ever stated what they scored as cadets, but Rey, Shinn, and Lunamaria were at the top of their graduating class.
but this is loser shinn team
>>14940436

I wonder if Rau was based on Liquid Snake. Just replayed MGS and it felt like SEED was taking inspiration from it.
>>14946073
Rau is Liquid Snake.
Mu is Solid Snake.
Al La Flaga is Big Boss.Waltfield is Punished Snake.
So does Kira or Shinn come back as a cyborg ninja?
>>14945195
>Shiho Hahnenfuss
I wish I could be the Natural who took her prisoner and fell in love with her and made sure she wasn't abused and then we would marry after the war and pump out viable offspring far away from the shit in the Earth Sphere.
>>14946088
isn't she just a genderswapped yzak?
>>14946091
You saying fem-Yzak is a bad thing?
>>14946079
Is Rey Solidus then?
>>14946079

>>14946079
Shinn, probably.
>>14946091
She's one of Yzak's squaddies, I think.
>>14946496
They're in one of those teenage arranged marriages.
>>14946507
So, like Athrun and Lacus, but without Kira getting involved?Yzak gets abandoned on an island with some Natural girl.
Dearka hooks up with Shiho in the meantime.
Dearka and Shiho later become leaders of a terrorist group, and ruin everything.

Steroids can also have emotional effects, such as depression or irritability.
Shinn's the best pilot r-right guys?
Fucking plot armor reeee
>>14953510
Shinn did everything wrong.
>>14953510
>>14953547
Shinn in the Impulse was pretty baller.
Shinn in the Destiny relied entirely on RAEGMODE and his suit's overwhelming power. He fucked up LOGOS nicely, but it made him useless against Jesus and Judas.
Shimon did a better job piloting the Destiny than Shinn.
SEED and Destiny felt like the last Gundam series which was actually about a drama set against the backdrop of a war.
00 Gundam was more like superpowered terrorists bullying the world until their conspiracy backstabs them
I didn't watch AGE.
G-Reco was barely comprehensible and I watched it for Aida anyway.
I dropped IBO about 6 episodes in but it didn't seem very compelling.
I don't know, but the shows I liked portrayed human drama and mecha combat against the backdrop of a grand conflict that occasionally took front and center.
>>14953636
Give IBO another chance
Also dropped it after a few episodes but gave it another try a few weeks later... It's really not that bad
>>14953547
>>14953510
>>14953632
It's honestly hard to say.
Shinn in the Impulse (when the series bothered giving him any focus) seemed to know what he was doing, and could pretty quickly adapt to any changes on the battle field, and how he dismantled the Freedom shows that he pretty much mastered the Impulse Gundam
Shinn in Destiny Gundam (when he has no focus or character) zips around EA mobile suits and is fucking invincible, but when fighting Kira or Athrun, the same beam shields that blocked a Destroy Gundam's main arsenal can hardly block a beam shot from S-Freedom.
There's the idea that "well, he's on RAGE EASYMODE NOW, STAB STAB STAB", but that's because they're being fucking cheap and using stock footage all the time.
If the idea is that he's relying on Destiny's power, it wouldn't be too hard to write in a scene or two where someone implies that, or Shinn himself says something along those lines, but nothing.
Because of the rushed pace and sloppiness of the series, Shinn is ultimately just turned into fodder for Kira and Athrun to beat up. Why do you think Shinn ended up fighting Athrun at the end? Because they could (and DID!) use stock footage during the final battle.
What a fucking joke.
Impulse was a good design.
>>14953825
Yeah, a cute mech
>>14953510
Shinn a shit
>>14953636
