Man we are dead as fuck
Is there anywhere that have enough Ultraman fans to hold conversations?
Also we Orb Origin nao
So is Orb Origin the default form even tho it's the strongest?
Haven't started on Orb. Is it as entertaining as Ultraman X?
>>14888858
It's much better then X
>>14888858
Your mileage vary a lot based on what you liked from X
Orb is much more a character story than a monster story. Gai is much more fleshed out than the regular Ultraman protags. He laughs, he jokes, he's suave, but he's also wrecked by guilt and much more doubtful
All these characterization came at the expense of all the regular Ultraman stuff though, i.e. teams and uniforms and all that jazz.
>>14888855
>it's the strongest?
It his own show, probably. But from what I see the original form runs out of gas really fast. That's why he still need to fusion with others.
>>14888906
Is Zeppillion form still a thing?
>>14888957
Starts with Zeppillion
Change to Burmite or jobber form in the middle
Finish with OO
>>14888858
I think it's boring compared to X overall. It definitely improved from the earlier episodes (which were lackluster as shit overall), but there's still some things that drag it down a bit.
The Thunder Breaster episodes are amazing, that said. I'd say half of the reason you should try picking it up is for those episodes alone. Also the Babalou ep.
I'm actually surprised that despite Crunchy having a whole bunch of Ultra shows now, no one's tried to rip them. There's a complete sub batch of Gaia on Nyaa, but I don't know where the subs came from. I'm kind of worried they're choppy crabsticks too, because the uploader has a pretty poor grasp of English.
>>14889098
Ultraman is the one odd fanbase that condone and even encourage streaming in order to boost more official releases
>>14889111
Well, that's what happens when there's practically no fansub community, unlike Garo, Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. Crunchyroll was pretty much a blessing for us.
That, and some people want to support Tsuburaya. They're doing much better financially now (compared to a few years back), but they're still the underdog.
>>14889132
Oh Tsuburaya, the DC of tokusatsu
>>14889098
The previous person doing the rips/uploads on Nyaa went MIA, so there had to be a successor sooner or later.
>>14889098
Hi no Tori (the guys who subbed Kamen Rider Amazon) got as far as episode 3 before stopping with no fanfare. No one knows what happened, but considering they have a ton of incomplete projects on their plates, I'm guessing they have a habit of starting a series and just never finishing it and Amazon was just a fluke.
>>14889141
Nah, that would be Image or IDW.
And even then (in terms of comics) DC has been gradually outperforming Marvel. Marvel has been shooting themselves in the foot a bit, but that's a /co/ related topic.

>>14889440
The "3 Jokers" thing hasn't even come into play in the comics yet. And they've got a better selling slate of comics even past the first few issues of a series.
>>14889436
I've heard it was fine, except for the lack of background/origin stuff on Dyna himself.
I've seen some battle clips and it looks exciting.
>>14889440
You barely need to pay attention to the comic industry to know that DC has been doing better as of recent.
How are the Jumborg Ace subs?
Maga Tano Orochi may not look great, but think of the name
It looks like that because it's Orochi fused with Gatanozoa
>>14888858
X is more entertaining and better, but give Orb a try, it´s also good.
>>14889098
Max,X,Orb,Gaia,Leo, 80 and Mebius have all been ripped from CR. The only ones I´m not sure were the case are Ginga and Nexus
>>14889111
The anime fanbase has a significant amount of people that encourage streaming, hence crunchyroll even being a thing. thing is, since its large enough you'll also see lots of people who either dont give a shit of prefer piracy.
Also, there´s another reason for that, we don't like CR just because its official, it´s because it allowed shows that werent otherwise subbed to get subs.
>>14888702
No idea why they are going for the Susano finding the Kusanagi in Orochi's tail motif. I would have X having it since it deals with armors.
>>14891235
My problem is that it's way smaller than both of the components. A final monster should not be half as tall as the fucking Ultra.
Who's everyone's all-time favorite Ultra?
I always have a hard time deciding between Agul and Hikari. I dunno, I guess I just like the "antiheroic blue Ultra" archetype.

At least conceptually, it's pretty cool that he was literally a personification of hope in that episode.
>>14896261
The kids coming together and forming glitter Tiga was beautiful, but makes less sense the more I think about.
The lack of build-up was the problem. It really came out of the left field
How the hell did he henshin in the jet?
>>14896348
Ultras don't have to henshin full size.
>>14896281
The Kyrieloid II episode did suggest that Tiga's powers were tied to what people believe in. But yeah, there wasn't a lot to go on.
>>14896348
Wasn't he also human-sized when fighting the crow-looking aliens?
>>14896374
Yes.
Being human size or even microsized has always been part of the standard moveset, but it's not used often.
Kinda like the spraying water ability
I thought the Kyrieloid II meant his power was literal light, but your explanation also make sense
>>14896351
I figured they were just giant compared to humans or something
>>14896374
I'm still really early on in Tiga and its one of my first series. I've only seen a bit of orb and the original and so far never seen an Ultra be humans sized.
>>14896392
Get to the Dada episode in the Original my nig
It's gonna be good shit
>>14896392
>I figured they were just giant compared to humans or something
Normally, yes. most, if not all Ultras have the ability to alter their size at will, though. Max becomes incredibly giant in one episode and a few fights in Seven X were done at human scale. Tiga also appears human sized one or two more times later on.
>>14896392
Ultraman's fight with Dada back in 1967 was the first ever example of an Ultra shrinking.
Seven took this to the extreme and shrank to microscopic sizes to fight Darrii in one episode, but also fought human sized aliens, Pega, Godola, and a few others.
Ultraman also did this, since we're talking about size.
>>14896374
>>14896391
Human sized Ultra form is the best. Sadly not used to allow human able to martial art the human size alien.
>>14898946
I have to wonder what Akio Jissoji and Mamoru Sasaki were thinking with that one.
>let's have the Science Patrol attack the drawn monster instead of erasing the drawing, it's cooler
>let's have Ultraman beat up a completely harmless monsterOn a related note, I hope that one anon trying to put the official subs on the blu-rays is still around.
>>14896467
In the Seven remake series it was insanely awesome when he was walking down the hallway in human size with all those soldiers unloading their rifles at him to no effect.
>>14896467
Ultraseven X was a weird series. It felt like they were trying to do Nexus again, but at the same time ape on Garo or something. I don't think it worked.
>>14899625
How does that mask fit over a human head?
>>14899676
The neck is part of the mask already.
Is Redman being portrayed as a cold-blooded serial killer just kind of a thing that exists here, or do the nips do it too?
>>14899625
I did like the blaster guns in Ultraseven X. I also enjoyed that utter curb stomp in the final episode when Seven just let loose.

>>14900265

>>14900429
There's also this one where Icarus is just frolicking in the woods, and then you cut to a b-movie-tier horror movie intro shot of the villain standing ominously in the background.
>>14900429
That's episode one, "Redman vs. Darkron." He makes his grand entrance by slicing down a sapling and setting a field on fire for no discernible reason.
Anyone actually going to sub the new Ultraman movie when it comes out? I imagine it's low priority unless crunchyrole/funimation got the rights.
>>14900649
There's one where he just rolls into frame for no fucking reason either.
>>14900667
I still highly doubt it's a movie.
>>14900766
it sure as hell isn't a new series, though
>>14900766
Didn't it already come out?
Is it just me or are Orb's fights way too slow?
>>14900850
Isn't that kind of par for the course with modern Ultra series? What with the speed decrease to add more weight to their movements.
>>14900667
Lol.
It's never coming out.
>>14900136
There's a Japanese fan name/title for Redman, "Red Phantom Killer" (赤い通り魔).
Search that up in Google and you'll see Redman. That's why Redman became such a meme.

Orb's whole deal is that he has different forms that come from combining two Ultras. His main one, Specium Zeppelion, combines OG Ultraman and Tiga since it's their respective 40th and 20th anniversaries this year. The one in the OP is Thunder Breaster, which combines Zoffy and Belial.
>>14901500
>In addition, viewing figures for the show’s online streaming showcase a massive 89% increase from the previous series, Ultraman X. As of episode 15, the show’s worldwide streaming figures total 480 million.

>>14916372
Max, Tiga, or the original 1966 are my go-to recommendations
>>14916372
The original, Tiga, and Max are fantastic entry points.
I would stay away from Nexus, Mebius, and anything that comes after Mebius until you at least have some experience with Ultra as a whole. Nexus breaks down the formula (I hesitate to say "deconstructs") and is darker in tone than most series, while Mebius onward (Zero movies, Ginga, X, Orb) relies heavily on nostalgia and callbacks that you won't be able to fully appreciate going in blind.
>>14916612
Aside from Nexus and the first Zero film (which I watched 2 years before), Ultraman Mebius was my first Ultraman series and I kinda disagree.
Mebius is a great starting point because, aside from it being an overall good series, it also gives you a taste of the other Ultraman series, and familiarizes you with a lot of classic kaiju and older concepts. It's a good entry point that doesn't actually require being familiar with Ultraman, despite the great amount of references.
That, and it's fun to learn what Mebius referenced from when you do watch the Showa series.Leo in particular was the most surprising, as I expected him to be an asshole
Also Mebius a cute

I'm actually really surprised nobody mentioned '80? Ultraman 80 is by far one of the best in my opinion and great for a starter.
>>14916612
Mebius actually does a really good job of easing newcomers into the franchise while celebrating its history. Yeah, there are a ton of callbacks and such, but they're pretty well woven into the overall story. Mebius himself is a rookie and though he's aware that there is a long history of Ultramen with countless stories going back years, he doesn't know their importance and has to learn about it all along the way.
In a sense, a newcomer to Ultraman watching Mebius first is in the same situation as he is.

But Leo was an asshole in mebius
>>14917885
Hey, Photon Victorium is almost AllVictory and barely any Gaia, but at least this form looks good
>>14918205
To be fair, Gaia doesn't have many defining features beyond his chest armor and the markings on his head. That's the flaw with a lot of Orb's fusions, though. A lot of the newer Ultras are more visually distinct, so their qualities overshadow those of Orb and the older Ultra.
>>14916372
>>14917677
No, but I can pretend,
>Gai always has some snippy line for each form
>It wasn't until Origin he actually called himself an Ultraman
>>14902508
>>14917661
>Schwatch out cocks, Japan.
>>14917625
I saw this last week and didn't understand. Ultraman plus Nexus equals Nexus??
>>14918046
Yeah, but he wasn't in his actual series, and that's what surprised me as somebody who watched Mebius first. He was a pure and good man, just tainted by Seven's hard, stiff rod.
>>14916707
I'm actually downloading 80 as we speak (I have CR premium but no data on my phone for long commutes). I've been putting it off for so long because 80's design is kinda...not good, but he's beginning to look kinda moe to me now.
Also has the comfiest music.
You think when Orb appears in future stuff, he'll default to Spacium Zeperion or Origin?
>>14919051
>>14919051
Probably SZ, since that's the form he's using in most advertising and a big part of his whole deal is celebrating Ultraman's 50th and Tiga's 20th anniversaries.
Him being in Origin for future stuff would be like, I dunno, Gaia showing up for stuff in V1 or something.
>>14919089
Agul V1 was sexy as fuck
>>14919089
>Gaia showing up for stuff in V1 or something
The difference is that Gaia can't freely switch between V1 and V2 like Orb can.
>>14919230
When did Orb ever switch between V1 and V2?
Okay that was a dumb joke.
>>14919122
He was also the most bully.
Bully Agul is best Agul.pls bully me
>>14919122
Yeah, he was visually distinct because he had all that black and silver was just a minor accent. The pattern plus Agul's sterner face made him look more morally ambiguous compared to Gaia.
I get the design change with Agul V2 though. The removal of most of the black and addition of more silver and some gold was intended to make him look more heroic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7Y9GAzNCwY
>>14918794
The red pattern looking like shorts plus those silver hands and feet are from Ultraman, but he's visually so plain that his influences looks more like lack of detail.
>>14919051
Most likely Spacium Zeperion as usual with this kind of things.
That said, is there an explanation as to why he doesnt default to Origin in the show iteslf now?
>>14920352
Dunno. I think Origin looks better then SZ honestly.
>>14920352
None so far.
>trying to finish up torrenting one last handful of episodes of X
>no seeders at all for like two days
Anyone else hope the next Ultra series isn't too gimmicky?
>>14921144
I do, but I've made peace with the fact that this is the way market is going. If the franchise wants to survive, they better adapt or aim for new markets
>>14921148
>inb4 the new series' protagonist uses 3 items to transform
>>14921173
I hope it's gonna be some good toys then
Just read some chapters of the manga.
Pretty cool stuff, but the lack of emerium beam disturbs me.
Just watched Ultraman Tiga: The Final Odyssey. Was surprisingly dull and poorly written.
>>14921297
Moroboshi doesn't have the Ultra Factor or whatever, so he can't use beam weapons like Shinjiro can. I think the Ace Suit user can, but I don't remember exactly. Hell, the fact that even as a normal human, Moroboshi can keep up with and in some respects even surpass Shinjiro just by sheer skill is pretty impressive.
The manga's alright. It's nothing special, but I dig the designs and it's interesting how they're incorporating the classic monsters into the story.
>>14921374
Yup.
I was pretty impressed when they put the new cicada dude and the new Dada.
>>14919051
Origin, I hope.
>>14921460
Without that bulky sword is what I hope
>I think the Ace Suit user can, but I don't remember exactly
His limbs are artificial made by Yapool.
I'm being slow and only just got to episode 5. I guess Jugular and Gai got the cards off-screen because Gai had to kick maximum alien ass?
Also dat Nanoha laser-staff.
>>14921173
I figure it will be badges or something like that.
The NFC in the Orb cards work way better than the Ginga/S/X IR scanners FWIW
>>14921925
Gai is that you
>>14921144
I think we're past the point of hoping gimmicks will be downplayed in modern Ultra series. Honestly you should be hoping their integrated into the plot as best as they possibly can be.
>>14922069
Sentai and rider fans haven´t accepted that yet so it'll take a while for ultra fans to do so.
> Honestly you should be hoping their integrated into the plot as best as they possibly can be.
Well, Orb not wanting to use his original power therefore having to use the power of other ultra was part of his character, him having to resort to Belial´s power was important in the drama part of the show that eventually lead to him getting his origin form back, and the sword has the same melody he associates with Naomi and Natasha.
Top notch toy-plot integration there.
>>14922600
Rider went too far with the gimmicks. Nowadays gimmicks are the driving force of the design, determine the story, and many aspect of the show. The franchise has deviated from its roots. Remember when Riders were about cyborgs fighting spoopy people? I sure don't.
Sentai always kinda had the gimmick in mind, and its core had always been five people in suits fighting shit. The gimmick is integrated fairly well, considering.
Ultraman has also been moving away from its root, i.e. the teams and the twilight-zone-like sci-fi stories. Let's hope they don't get rid of the whole "giant of light" aspect all together.
>>14922698
>Nowadays gimmicks are the driving force of the design, determine the story, and many aspect of the show.
That´s not necesarilly a bad thing if you know how to handle it. Design wise, Ultramen are supposed to look more similar to each other than Riders do(at least after Amazon came out) so there´s not much you can do to integrate the gimmicks into the base design. Though one may argue Orb is an exception since it´s gimmick is previous ultras and his designs(sans Origin) take elements from those.
What I do consider its a bad thing, which you see more in sentai than in rider, is how people have been so obsessed by motifs that they demand the show to stick to them. Best examples are people complaining MMPR is not about dinosaurs, or that the Shurikenjin´s components aren´t ninja things. I don´t mind gimmicks as much as I mind the obsession both the fans and designers have with motifs.
>>14922801
I agree with you. Gaim was the last Toei show I remember enjoying and actually tuning into SHT streams. It took the gimmick well yet stuck to the story.
So basically a superb story will trump anything
Watching Gaia right now
Damn, this episode is some pretty terrifying stuff
>>14923150
I was watching the wrestling episode last night, great stuff
>>14923212
Ya, the rescue episode was top notch too.
Along with this fight.
So apparently redman's back?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YMmHp4-0lE
>>14923212
that one just made me depressed
>>14923114
Man, I don't remember Ultraman's back fin being that big.
I do like how it's not really necessary to hide the zipper anymore with advances in costume designing, but most Ultras still have the fin out of tradition.
>>14923638
Jack had a noticably larger fin. That is, before they made him look exactly like Ultraman for some reason
>>14923743
He was originally the Skyrider of Ultraman; basically the main character for what seemed to be a reboot, but with the main difference of being a return of the first Ultraman (obviously, they changed their minds about that detail). Heck, he was originally called Shinman before getting his official name.
On a side note, I hope his show's crabsticks get scrubbed someday.
>>14898946
I just watched this episode for the first time
>>14923638
Well, that's Jack, who like the original Ultraman used to have a fairly different design before being modernized.
Speaking of the original Ultraman, has it ever been hinted anywhere as to what his real name is? In one of the Zero movies, we find out that Father and Mother are respectfully actually named Ken and Marie. I assume since "Ultraman" is a title more than a name, the other Ultras call him something else and he had a name before becoming "Ultraman."
Any day now
>>14924296
I'm kinda digging the sideburns
>>14924213
"Man" is his name, obviously. Nobody wants to be redundant so we just say "Ultraman" instead of "Ultraman Man."
>>14924296
I'm not sure how to feel about this, cause I was expecting Orb Trinity to be something less simple, but I guess this is what we get after them blowing their design budget on that Bulky Beta Spark X
>>14924296
Looks ok. But generic.
God damn... this episode... This fucking episode!!!!
>>14926352
>white people out of nowhere
That surprised me too the first time I saw it.
Does one need to watch Ginga first before Ginga S? I've always heard that Ginga is hilariously low-budget shit, but S is far better.
>>14926411
You'll be mostly fine. I think the villain has a connection to the one in Ginga and some of that show's characters reappear but it's mostly fine as a stand alone. (only two Ginga characters, the main hero and the rival, return as main characters in S)
Lol, how the fuck is Metron gonna stand a chance against Orb?
>>14926411
I highly recommend watching Ginga before Ginga S. Ginga S is a direct sequel series.
>>14926411
Tough out Ginga and the associated Retsuden episodes beforehand. It's a bit of a struggle, I admit, but it's somewhat necessary.
>>14924296
Huh. The scans made it seem like the new armor parts would be much bulkier. I guess I'll warm up to it when I see it in motion.
>>14918709
Because it probably wasn't until he regained Origin that he felt he was deserving of the title again.

>It's a melodrama episode
I liked it fuck you fags
Is it just me or has the Ultra series died after Mebius?
We had ultra galaxy, which was a typical -mon show. Then the ultra galaxy movie introduced horrible CGI to the franchise. And after that, it has been one cheaply made toy commercial after another. Also, the fact that they reuse suits all the time and have gone PG with the violence, makes it even worse.
So the question is:
A really good, classic 50 episode ultra show (with no toys, and with high production values) when?
>>14927207
>50 episodes
>high production value
>no toy merch
those first two are already asking for too much. and then throwing on that third bit, it's like you want them to do it for fucking free.
>>14927207
>introduced horrible CGI to the franchise
Did you not see the first quarter of Tiga and pic related?
>>14927207
>A really good, classic 50 episode ultra show (with no toys, and with high production values) when?
Probably never, considering how much early Heisei made things harder for Tsuburaya in the long run. And "no toys" has never exactly happened unless you ignore the billion gadgets and vehicles the Science Patrol equivalents have, which sometimes get more screentime than the Ultramen.
>>14927207
>Is it just me or has the Ultra series died after Mebius?
It's just you
>>14927163
>>It's a melodrama episode
>I liked it fuck you fags
I dig melodrama. I watched every ep of Gilmore Girls. This ep didn't do it for me. I'm having trouble figuring out if it was the actress or the dialogue or both. But I loved the monster concept, and that he was wearing women's shoes.
>>14927207
the shorter shows, greater focus on toys, and everything else Ultra has become post-Mebius is an attempt to survive in a market wholly dominated by Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, which have become increasingly collectable and comedy-focused and have become more profitable for it.
Ultraman used to be the king of toku, now it's barely hanging on.
>>14927789
To be fair, sentai and rider are hanging on too and that's how they ended as Bandai's bitches. Toku has been in decline for a long time. Modern SHT doesn't just happen, it's the result of a long process
anyone else watching Kaiju Girls just to support Tsubaraya? Even as someone that has grown a tolerance to anime like this it is pretty bad
>>14927960
I think it is fun.
>>14927960
>just to support Tsubaraya
Why not just buy any official Ultra-related thing? Money is always more tangible support.
>>14927960
any weight gain scenes
>>14888702
>Orb Origin
For a second there, I thought that was Belial, due to the sharp orange eyes.
>>14928406
OP is Belial fused with Zoffy.
>>14926352
which series is this from, she's hot
>>14927960
Kaiju Girls is amazing.also what kaiju is that rogue kaiju from the latest episode?
>>14927207
Mebius had poor ratings but the Ultra Brothers movie was a huge hit and the Superior Brothers was an even bigger hit so Tsuburaya learn its lesson, people only want member berries. Arguably that's why Toei always bring washed-up actors to the annual rider movie
>>14927960
I wish it followed the 2015 manga's premise, where the monsters are secretly sealed in the form of girls right after their defeat rather than them being normal girls that inherited the souls of the monsters.
Well, this was shit.
Got this guy in a blind box, threw the bix away, and I'm wracking my brain trying to remember where he was from. Any help?
>>14932042

>>14932042
Zamusha, from Mebius.
>>14929654
Make it official, Tsuburaya! I need some cute psycho girls in my life!

>>14927789
>Barely hanging on
Where'd you pull that from? it's true that a few years back it was doing pretty bad but nowadays it's pretty successful, been getting better sales and ratings since Ginga S.The shows being shorter is also a good thing, no Ultra show needed to be 50 episodes.
>>14927207
>reuse suits all the time
This is my only issue desu.
>>14931408
You should have known it was going to be when over half the human cast was AKB48 members.

>>14927207
>A really good, classic 50 episode ultra show (with no toys, and with high production values) when?
That has never happened in the history of Ultraman.
>>14888855
>>14935235
Orb Origin's biggest strength is the Orbcalibur. Without that, he doesn't really have anything to set himself apart from other Ultras, at least as far as we've seen. It's a bog standard, basic form with no special powers of its own, which is why the Fusion Up forms are still viable.
>>14935501
Even though, his power level is really all over the place.
When we were introduced to Orb he lost his original form after battling Maga Zetton one of the 6 beasts and have to borrow power from his senpai to combat kaijuu.
Then come Maga Orochi, the strongest one yet who completely kick Orb's ass until he used Thunder Breasters which easily handle Orochi, who has the power of 6 beasts + Belial.
Then come Zepadon who, completely wiped the floor with Thunder Breaster form in the fucking episode that Orb found his resolve to accept the Darkness to become the light. Then he debuted his Origin form and wipe the floor with Zepadon.
>>14935536
The big sword is probably what makes him strong. If he doesn't have it, then he's just a basic Ultra.
>>14935536
It just proves that believing in yourself is the strongest power. Also, you know, being lucky enough to find a OP weapon in the first place.
>>14927207
>50 Episodes
>High production values
Do you understand how money works? Ultra does not even make as much money as Rider, and you want them to spread themselves even more thinly?
The short episode orders are arguably one of the greatest strengths that the franchise has.
>>14935536
Before Zepadon, there's Galaktron that almost wreck Thunder Breaster
>>14936522
Eh, it was more evenly matched
>>14936522
>Galaktron
>almost wreck Thunder Breaster
Did we watch the same show
Galactron mostly got the upper hand by catching Thunder Breaster by surprise. Once the trick is out of the bag, Thunder Breaster tore him to shreds
>>14932065
>>14932071
Gracias
>>14936757
Thunder Breaster is arguably Orb's strongest fusion, though it's understandable why he wouldn't want to use it very much.
Is there anywhere one could DDL episodes? I'm trying to torrent X, but there are hardly any seeds and I'm still missing three episodes.
