***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== ACE PILOT GROUP BUILD ==

Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

Prizes include:
>1st Place: Any HG kit under $25 + an Action Base 2
>2nd Place: Any HG kit under $15
>3rd Place: An Action Base 2
(Note: Shipping is to USA and Canada only)

Group build ends on November 7th, lets gunpla!

I went to go pick up a Grimiore today but they were all sold out. Wound up picking up a Man Rodi instead, which came this one of those hg customize packs, which is nice. Do yo guys think i should paint the Rodi? i dont really like how the colours on the limbs and torso go together.

Definitely, Rodi is a decent design but the colors are pretty bland, maybe alter the feet too so they're not on space heels anymore?

Greetings from /tg/!

Had a question for you guys, since you'd probably know off hand. This guy made a progress thread a while back and I'd been planning on running with his idea of making Tau Crisis suits a bit more "clunky" and "90's mecha," possibly even spicing up some mechanized Guard. Thing is, I can't find anywhere that has the diagonal- or hex-slotted panels that you see on the knees and missile pods on his models. I'm assuming that they're found on model kits from Mobile Suit Gundam or Patlabor, etc?

Do you guys know if any companies out there carry just the panels, or as part of "upgrade sprues" or "extra armor kits?"

Thanks in advance!

Thread in question:

>>
>>14881521

I don't know about the hex slots, typically everything is a 3mm circular connection but hobbysearch/hobby tools section/ plastic parts - koto has alot of spare parts/polycap type things.
>>
>>14881534
Cool, I'll look into them.

And, yeah, in hindsight I recall seeing hex-panelling on some mecha I can't remember, but not on his models.

Been a long day at work, sorry.

>>
>>14881724
? Did you get caught up in the figures section or something?
>>
>>14881732
I high recommend it, sometimes it can have flimsy legs like any other IBO 1/100 kit, and the swords are a bitch to keep in those arm guards when you have them in certain poses, but overall it's a great kit. the only stickers are for the cameras and I would only use the one to put under the rectangular piece to put a reflective surface under it. The only questionable gate placement to me is on the shoulders. I wish I had a picture of it, because I don't currently have it with me. Oh, and you'll need to remove the safety flags on the head wings.

>>14883002

Don't feel discouraged. There are a lot of affordable airbrushes out in the market. Or heck, you can even get the job done with spray cans. The difficulty in MGs are probably the building since there are a lot more parts. But you do have the option of how far you want to go. Some people go all the way in painting, decals, weathering, fully painted inner frame, etc. Some don't. So you have a choice.

Yes, but the Tallgeese was so stupidly over engineered that it could reduce a pilot to a bloody smear inside the cockpit...

>>

Assuming it's the same as the one with the MS Cage, it's a very good MG.

Weak ankles that have issues supporting weight and after a while it starts falling over at the drop of a hat. Weak range on the knee bends as well.
>>
>>14883237
No. You're going to want to glue everything down into one mode because that's the only way it'll hold for more than half a year.

And the range of motion is dogshit for a MG. The PG and the HGUC Unicorns are the good ones, the MGs are stuck between gimmick and poseability and are weak on both because the plastic is too thin to withstand the transformation more than a few times and the articulation was sacrificed for the transformation. If you really want an impressive Unicorn that has it all save up for the PG.

The HGUC has slightly better range of motion and holds together much better. But it's easy to improve, just clip off some of the fins on the back of the lower legs and you can get a much better leg flex.

Anyone know how the airbrush or compressor are in this bundle? I don't trust Amazon reviews, they're usually overrun by fake chink reviews.

Friend anon, you're better off getting the option for the compressor with a tank and purchasing an airbrush separately. If you get an Iwata Neo or Badger Patriot they should run about the same cost together with a compressor/tank combo and will certainly be better quality than a chink brush.

>>
>>14885630
You're definitely right, and that's very valid criticism. I thought of something earlier before, but a major reason I (had to) went with this is due to articulation, and like you said, size. I can't get a good sword pointing pose out of the hands of the Gouf, and if the gatling is pointed at the Ez8, I would definitely want some support otherwise it'd dip after a while hence why it's pinning the Ez8 down instead. Also, for that pose, it wouldn't make sense for the Ez8 to have a beam saber out at that range, and I don't want it looking just helpless on the floor, especially as the leader suit. If it were able to take knee better and had better neck articulation, I probably would've gone with that instead.

When you go to buy kits, what rules do you generally follow? Whats the best review sites? I've been watching a few Gundam Series as being a dirty canadian I started in on Wing, and owned a couple premade figures from that era, but I've kind of making a HG wishlist. Do you only buy kits of suits of characters you liked, or only the most facisnating suits get your attention, or is it just whatever looks cool?

From order of most important to least important
>Do I like the design
>Is the articulation and detail decent
>Would I want to display it
>Do I have something to display it with
>How large is my backlog
>Do I like the series

frankly, whether or not I liked the pilot doesn't mean much to me, because there are gonna be some suits I don't care about from some pilots.
Graham Aker was cool but I haven't figured which flag I would like and Susanowo is pretty much the best suit out of his S2 ones and the Brave is a floppy mess that got destroyed when I moved so I have no incentive to buy his other suits, even if I did like them all AND his character.
Setsuna suits get me, but I haven't wanted a Qant till the RG came out because it's my least favorite one.
I have every Tieria suit from the show, but I couldn't stand him until S2.

On the opposite end, I don't care about Sekai at all but I have every Build burning although I ended up with the TRY by accident

In the end, it's all about what you like and the reasons behind it serve no purpose but to justify it.
Make your wishlist anon, but do at least check up on detail and articulation so that you don't pay top dollar for a bland statue.

I'm painting small details on my HG using Tamiya enamel now. For hand brushing, how long should I wait between coats?
I used flat series of Tamiya enamel (the one with XF- code instead of X-) so it's visible when the paint dried because it turned flat. But I know that 'drying' and 'curing' is different, so is it safe that I paint second coat just right after the first coat dried (not cured)?
>>
>>14888055

if its detailing then 20s to 1 minutes is more than enough.

I usually smudge the paint into a bottlecap and add a drop of thinner into it.

Finished this fellow last night to a lukewarm reception. I had to gouge out the shotgun hand and a chunk of his grey foot plate(c20) in order to allow for the ankle bend seen in the picture.

He's the second kit from that line I've picked up and they continue to be really weird to me in style and articulation. Love his shotty though, he's also very, very red and my shit camera doesn't seem to like that..

Next on the hit list is a Gyancelot I would very much like to paint, and an RG sinanju.

>Something involving Revell, I guess.

In summary:

Revell didn't perceive Bandai to be a threat to the sales of their kits. Then people started importing the Bandai kits en masse and the sales of the Revell kits (Which haven't been updated or improved since the 80s) dropped.

Revell woke up, pulled a "Harmony Gold" and waved their neverending license to make Star Wars model kits, and prevented Bandai kits from being sold outside of Asia.

But that's wrong.

Revel has absolutely no voice to play regarding the matter because Revel is not licensed for distribution in Japan.

What really happened is that the Star Wars kits were originally licensed for sale only in Japan because Disney Japan sets control for that territory. Last year Bandai asked for license outside of Japan, and the most natural expansion was other Asian countries. Disney Asia, said ok, but you better tell everyone else to fuck off who are already selling into Asia without proper license. And so they did. All the retailers that had a big enough name were sent a notice by Bandai saying that they were starting official distribution into Asia and that they needed to stop.

The U.S. was never part of this discussion and hence Revel never had a thing to voice regarding it.

As for why u.s. is not part of this, it's probably still pending license negotiation. Likely Disney/Lucas wants to set a high royalty for it.

Man not much, because low demand for just runners and shipping is going to be a factor. Might just be better to keep them and switch now and then. I would probably pay like 10 bucks max, and I would want them cut off the runners with LONG connections to reduce the shipping size weight.

Working on my entries for a small local con in 3 weeks. The rx-78 is just on there as filler to check how the building looks now that there is some paint on it.

Something must have fucked up on the gloss coat though as when I masked it off to paint the grey sections some individual bricks lost their paint here and there upon pulling up the mask.

Figure I'll just repaint them a slightly different color, blend them with some oils, and bullshit it as brick repair.
