It's not a mecha series. That said Cobra is pure science fiction with a blend of JP Belmondo shaked in. And of course the godly ladies.
I do like it. Cobra is a real ladies man, and the women are bond girls. No moe shit. We need more Cobra and less spineless male characters in modern mecha anime shows.

I like it, evento though the best parte of the anime is the Crystal Boy arc, and the rest does not get evento close to it in quality. I really enjoy the movie as well. Dezaki made a damn fine good work there.

I want to watch the rest of the franchise someday. Does anyone knows if the OVAs and the newer TV series adapt the other 10 volumes of the manga that the original anime didn't adapt or is original content?

I watched the SA let's play before watching the TV series. I gotta say, I wish some of the zanier stuff had been in the anime, and I prefer Crystal Boy as a recurring rival.
