Don't worry too much about what /m/ has to say. This board is merely a great, writhing mass of uncoordinated idiots with their own opinions and unfortunately, those with a negative opinion about something generally shout the loudest, meaning that everything is shit.

Basically, if you liked the basic concept of 0079, stay tuned for Zeta, it's the same kind of series only now with an actual animation budget. If not, start looking around for what you do want from a mecha series, and which one fits best with that.

You'd think better animation would make a better show, but nope. Zeta is like 0079's retarded cousin. The characters are insufferable for the most part, and the decisions they take don't make any sense. The villains are cartoony as fuck, and are actually a step down from 0079. Zeon was cartoony but they were still a force to be reckoned with, but titans not only are cartoony, but they also have pathetic benny hill tier characters.

It's like Zeta, except it doesn't take itself as seriously. Characters are slightly more likeable, but not by much, and all of them including the villains are now comedic.

I wished it didn't exist. The characters are even worse than those found in Zeta. Only thing you'll be looking forward to is the finale, which wraps up the saga.

Victory is a step up from the Zeta days. It's still a dramatic show, but the characters are vastly improved and don't act like autists.

Also other Tomino shows might be worth checking out, especially Daitarn 3 (Great characters, concept),
Zambot 3 (The ending makes it worthwhile),
Xabungle (Setting, characters, plot, some comedy, it's the best anime Tomino ever did in my opinion),
L-Gaim (It's a proto ZZ)
and Dunbine (This show is wasted potential, and it drags on forever, but the setting is nice, and it's not as offensive of a show like Zeta and CCA).

A classic. Its weakest elements are its filler, but it actually got a pretty good story going on.

Top tier sequel. It takes the themes of the first series and make them even better, but also manages to find its own message. Weakest part is the start where Camille behaves like an autistic criminal sociopath for no good reason. Gets better once character development happens and Camille stops acting like a literal criminal.

Ehh. More lighthearted than the other two, but also sort of a jumbled mess as far as pacing goes.

Not the best, but it's the series that started it all. Learning about the One Year War is so important for so many reasons. A classic.
