I don't think you understand the money they get from gundam is so big that rhey put it into other masterpieces like Cross Ange or Valverave. Or of if you want to go back in time bebop and outlaw star. If this is hard to understand I'll use an analogy. Gundam is to Sunrise what football is to colleges. They both pay for all the other shows and sports.

Sunrise makes a ton of non gundam related series and puts put more original anime than pretty much every other studio (Mostly because of how large they are with multiple studios and they have a ton of money). Most studios struggle to put out more than one series every season and then sunrise will put out 3 along with an OVA while also working on a movie.

Because Gundam fans will suck up shit like you drink milk. Sunrise/Bandai understands that Gundam has only one thing to do : sell plastic models. No one gives a shit about doing a good story, or having good animation. That doesn't sell merchandise. So why invest the Yen in it ?
Gundam caters to the lowest denominator of the mecha fandom. Those that want some resemblance of quality will pay through the nose for 18 minute web anime (like Thunderbolt).

In the last 6 years there's been 8 entries (Unicorn, AGE, GBF, G no Reco, GBF Try, The Origin, IBO, Thunderbolt).

In addition to that there's been an adaption of the comedy manga Gundam-san, a TV reairing of Unicorn, movies (AGE MoE, Thunderbolt December Sky), OVAs connected to a series (GBF Try Island Wars), several video game series and manga out the ass. That's not even including the gunpla gravy train...

Bandai and Sunrise will keep going as long as people continue to buy Gundam merchandise. Here's to hoping whatever series they comes out with next year is even worse than IBO.

Sunrise has no need to objectively make a quality series if it can continue to milk a franchise and move plastic ro-butts. They're essentially a contractor for Bandai at this point to make a series with which to move kits.

Technically, Heybot and DreamFes are BN Pictures, not Sunrise. Classicaloid is also produced by BNP, although Sunrise is actually animating it.

Magic-Kyun! is pure Sunrise, although it's an adaptation.

The general consensus is, Battle Spirits has gotten weaker from Saikyo Ginga onwards, lately. Heck, Shomentoppa has given up subbing Battle Spirits after Blazing Soul, since he's not really fond of Hasegawa as a writer (although someone else did pick up the torch).
