Looking back, and having watched it completely free of any spoiling, I still find it a little odd that they didn't end up making Kusaka an Orphnoch. Like yeah, he had enough in him so he could use Kaixa, but the whole time watching the show I was waiting for him to turn out to BE the monster he hated so much, along the lines of Kabuto. They really pushed the whole "he was severely bullied in school" and "suffers from Lady Macbeth-tier ptsd" thing after all and with Yuka sharing a similar background, him hating the Orphnochs so much to the point where it seemed like an excuse for something else, the weird and not so much hateful but often just creepy way he acted towards Yuji etc. etc. it just seemed to be builiding up to that. Kinda disappointed that it didn't, but also I'm glad he died without even a trace of honour.

But to me, he seems far more redeemable than a lot of characters who have been redeemed for doing much worse than being a gossipy bitch, and it always seemed weird to me that Takumi seemed to like/care for him by the end. I think it would have been interesting to see him start down the typical "secondary turns nice" path if not quite get to "nice", just "slightly more sympathetic", then turning into an Orphnoch and just completely breaking down and going on that suicide run because there's only so much his already fucked up head can take. I guess it's just 555's shitty writing that fires up the imagination on how things could have gone.

By the end of Gaim he was a pitiful shell of a person who did nothing but lie, cheat, and hurt his friends and family, just to get into some girl's pants. It's frankly embarrassing that the show kept him around for so long.

The way I have it actually going is, you're lead to believe that it's actually Philip and Ryu in the world where they really did team up and become W but it's actually The world Phillip stayed dead and Ryu's Partnered up with Shotaro who has to be the mind part of W after a previous accident where he was fighting against a dopant too powerful for him so he tried to use the W driver by himself but ended up not being able to handle it and becoming confined to a wheelchair with burns over half of his body. I think we all agree Beast is the main rider in all but title. Haruto was cool in movies and a handful of episodes but he never really grows as a character, never has to make any sacrifices and goes full retard in the end for "muh koyomi". Nitou actually changes from being self-absorbed and only concerned with eating phantoms to survive to bonding with Chimera and genuinely wanting to save people and ends up defeating Wiseman despite not having a ridiculously overpowered form like Wizard did with Infinity. And that's to say nothing of the fact that he sacrifices his driver in the end and devotes the rest of his life to finding Chimera again. It was basically Gou vs Banno but as an entire series
