So in DF cats breed very rapidly, and dwarves love cats.

DF constantly keeps track of every entity in your fortress, so if you have 2 cats of opposite sex, they willl very quickly breed out of control and put a huge strain on the game and eat all your your processing power making the game unplayable.

They only solution is to very early on kill the cats, and the easiest way to do that is butcher them for meat. However since dwarves love cats they will often disobey orders and not kill the cats cause they love them too much.

So you run into a problem where having cats will destroy your fortress, and your dwarves refuse to get rid of cats. Its funny if you've played lots of DF.
