Man, 0083 has always been my favorite. Mostly due to the reuse of Zeon's equipment and a pirate fleet entering the fold. Then the heroes, in their feel good ending, don the Titan uniforms.

The problems become extremely apparent in the final two episodes. It doesn't help that they retconned a colony drop into the time line that has zero effects (because it didn't really happen) later on.
The characters aren't likeable in most cases, and in others are just forgettable, and the twist romantic history with Nina and Gato Springs up without precedent. This is made extra stupid because Nina hears gato be discussed, and even sees him in person, multiple times and does not react whatsoever. She clearly doesn't know who he is at all in the fist half of the show.

Why does everyone say this? As many problems as 0083 has, this part makes sense. A massive terror attack made the Federation paranoid enough to creat the Titans. It's not much different than the Department of Homeland Security being created after 9/11, just more extreme in both cause and effect.

They start as pretty straight soldiers and just seem to follow a schlocky "I'm a man, you're a woman. They story is over and I guess we're together" you get in action movies. (Though 0083 is my favorite, even 08th has a better love plot)

Had some cons for sure but overall I really enjoyed the pros.

The designs and animations were definitely one of its strong points. Loved the music and the overall top gun feel.

The main character wasn't particularly likeable but the show did bring out a strong supporting cast on both sides with fun side characters. They really should've focused more on Cima's tragic storyline.

The love triangle thing was a bit of a mess that should've been avoided. The ending as a while was weird. The villain goes out in a principled blaze of glory, the love interest is an irredeemable traitor, the hero pretty much ends up exactly where he started and is generally unlikeable.

I guess Kou needed to mature more as the story went on. Gato and Delaz probably should've been a little less of Zeon fan wank. But whatever I liked them.

0083 is my 2nd favorite UC Gundam right after F91...not popular choices I know, but they were always my favorite.

At first you think it's going to be like the other shows. The protag's father is a mad scientist who supplies him with a robot and upgrades as the series goes on.

Only he isn't. He is a practical engineer who borders on disappointment in his son. Amuro didn't seem to grow in a nuclear family but rather separately with his overly affectionate mother and an aloof career-minded father. After the first episode, his father is gone, along with the scientist benefactor cliche.
