I'll argue that the white-violet Berlins both look better and are also grunts as nothing sets them apart from the regular greens technically. Also, Devoncha just looks mean and is about as close as it gets to a true grunt machine in the series, yet can still hang with masterpiece MHs with a good pilot on board.

5. I like all those short chapters where we jump far into the future. Emperor Rescue arc is also really good along with Bangdoll chapters. Majestic Stand looks good too.
6. I like most of them except the new LED Mirage. The ones shown in the newest chapter look really cool. Ashura Temple and the new SR look nice.

I think both white and greens look as good as one another, much better than SR-2 anyway. Devoncha lacks the elegance of the Berlin so I don't like it as much. I like its brother Barunja a bit more even. My top MH are the less crazy but still graceful ones.

Yes, they were actually in that Devoncha above which is technically a variant called the Pluto. The regular Devoncha was closer to this movie design, if less bulky and detailed.

Agreed the original Berlins are better than the SR2, but I do like grunts to appear less refined and more rough and rugged. Feels more down to earth for them. Also part of why I say Devoncha is more of a gruntlord is that it's a model sold to anyone that has a bunch of variants and whatnot, it's about a low as a Mortar Headd gets, while the Berlins are specifically the machines of one of the major powers in the setting, share parts with Vatshu and are piloted by a standout knighthood.

Gonna go the less popular route here and say Vai-O-La. It looks regal but pretty much ideal for a sand mercenary. The head and cross eyes are perfect. Helps that it can actually kick ass too.

Seable and Pied Pipers. Surprisingly competent in all departments and may have actually beat the AKD had it not been for Jagd Mirage.

Jhon Weinziel. Anakin Skywalker done right, funny enough he looks like the "MC of FSS" in one of the original AKD posters where he stands at the forefront.

Atropos. Not sure if she can even be considered a Fatima since she behaves like a normal person for most of the story, but she is probably the most complex character in FSS.

Est and Jhon, as mentioned before. A perfect story that encapsulates the tragedy of Fatimas and Headdliners.
>6. Favorite Gothicmade?
I have some hopes for the new KOG, but almost all the GTMs I'm interested we only see small portions of and not full body.

Has there ever been a MH or any FSS design that was not designed by Nagano? The guy is pretty inspirational when it comes to a DIY work ethic.

While we're on the topic of Fatimas, can someone explain to me how their mind control works? They clearly aren't mindless zombies, have and display a lot of emotions, and don't always follow their Master's orders. They behave more like maids than androids DESU. Am I missing something here?

I agree, the Devoncha is the mpst grunt-like grunt of FSS. Easy to pilot (for an MH), easy to customize, easy to get your hands on, and has the potential to floor any other MH depending on the pilots. It destroyed some cream of the crop Sirens and almost did the same to Ashura Temple had it not been for the sneak attack claws. It's like the Honda Civic of MH's. I just don't really think it looks as good as some of the more prestigious country-affiliated grunts like Berlin or Siren, or even a Maglow, which I suppose is the point of the design. But at the very least we know it's no Leo.

Fatimas behave like normal people but are eternally loyal to their masters and have no doubts as to their own identity and place in Joker society. Their only will is to serve their master. Whenever they're presented with something that conflicts with their interests and devotion to their masters (like Kyo and Est) they start malfunctioning. Grunts in FSS are amazingly competent. Like the Apache. Ironically enough the most sophisticated and powerful MH are the ones that are the least reliable and functional and hardest to pilot, like the entire Mirage series and some of the Sirens. I can't really think of any robot anime or manga where mecha power levels and their caveats are treated somewhat realistically like that. A/Z sort of tried but failed miserably.

Hardly. The Pipers are ballin but they were beating the Temple Knights, the mook guys that are destined to become cyborg pissants so the resistance, of course assisted by the real AKD guys, can wreck them.

Aisha in the Terror Mirage literally warded off Konig in the Vaiola while busy looking for Amaterasu and when she finally focused on fighting in this first sortie machine she oneshot him, but without totalling the enemy mech.

Fucking AKD, everyone else is so much more interesting.

It's funny too since the Mighty Series was like Nagano's prototypes for the GTMs. Same type of layered angular and spiky details with translucent clear armor and skinny proportions, except without the horrible joints and hamhands. Not to mention how clean the silhouettes are in comparison.

It's missing the Brain Powerd-influenced layering of the armor and frame that is prevalent in both the GTMs and Mighty Series, as well as the translucent and angular shell design of the armor. Even MM Auge is closer to a GTM than the Empress. The Mighty Series are newer designs than the Empress as well. You're only saying that because the first GTM we ever saw was the retcon version of Empress.

That's some serious reaching here. The MH Empress's sword has no trigger. It was never used like a GTM Gunblade. It's just a sword with a pointy arrow tip. And there is no other GTM sword shaped like it other than its retcon counterpart's.

Here's the thing though, Nagano has a habit of going "such and such is the best guy ever!" and then they're just not unless it's Amaterasu. I actually made fun of this when I said Rognar was another best fighter ever.

Kaien is recognized by everyone as this best swordguy that's turbohype, but then you have all these people that are better. The best MH is totally the KoG, except when it's the Junchoon or the LEDs or the Jagd or the Mighty series. See what I mean? And coincidentially, see how all those are connected to Amaterasu?

It feels like I'm beating a dead horse but I like the Gothicmades as their own designs and not replacements for Mortar Headds. That being said, I do enjoy looking at the GTMs and Nagano's overall evolution as an artist and designer because it's interesting. And when it comes down to it, Nagano's artistic evolution is what FSS is really all about. Still, I agree with most of the others that MH are all better designs than GTMs as a whole.

...according to who? Even if that were true, the mecha are part of the setting. The setting was what defined FSS. It really is amazing to me how the MH that see the most action in the manga are the giant, super heavy armor ones that often look like they've been through all sorts of hell, whereas the ones we see as kits tend to have less screen time (often standing still) or don't even show up at all, and often built by modellers to look like glossy fresh-from-the-factory race car robots.

Furthermore, the best fights in the manga are the ones involving the heavy MH. The Ashura vs Devoncha fight is amazing to look at and probably one of the most well-drawn MH battles in the whole manga- you can feel the weight of each swing and movement.
