But seriously, the sequence I'm talking about happens when Ushio, and the Tomboy infiltrate that mansion in order to retrieve the spear. They enter a room with a man-made water demon maid, and attacks the tomboy (almost chocking her), Ushio then steps up and manages to save her without the spear or Tora to help him out.

It's a minor sequence, but I felt it was important since it showed Ushio was capable without the spear, and without it , he feels like a tagalong kid in that arc.

I watched all of Adventure before Tri came out, it still holds up. The only thing that I notice is that the show clearly feels like it was kind of made up as it went along, but it did a great job of hiding it, Hikari really is boring and the animation is actually terrible.

Aside from that, the show is surprisingly solid for it's genre. There aren't that many kids shows in general that even touch on stuff like divorce and hardcore onii-chan responsibilities. Heck even the way they used crests was a neat gimmick for a toy

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. It becomes very clear that either the show kept getting extended or the writers only had one story arc planned at a time because the next arc always happened very suddenly. Also Hikari is literally just a plot device given legs, she isn't too egregious but she definitely has a lot of sloppy writing surrounding her. And Toei gonna Toei animation wise but credit should be given that the Digimon team seems to be a separate force and Digimon seems to covariant be purely the best animated series by Toei.

Despite the faults Digimon does atmosphere, themes, character development, and tragedy very well. It definitely surpasses being a kids show.

The Scorpmon fight was pretty rad. Something about curving shots around corridors really appeals to me. Had some nice choreography too.

Savers is probably the only one I'd say had a very strong start, but that's because I loved seeing DATS do missions. Digimon MiB was too much fun.

Tamers was also a good start but it was by no means an exciting start.

The thing is while I admit it feels like there was some slow stuff you can't really cut an episode. Episode 1 is the intro, 2 shows us appligattai and introduces Navimon who is clearly Gatchmon's main partner, 3 is the 7 codes, 4 is about Haru and Gatchmon's relationship and establishing who Cameramon worked directly under. You can't cut any of that and if you blended them it feels like an episode or two might have been super rushed.

The random "friends" are pointless nobodies for now, they either will develop and price useful like Hirokazu and Kenta or they will just be relatable nobodies used to show effects on the real world. Only character so far who matters outside of Haru was his friends who is more than he appears. Not like they spent much time on them anyways.

I think the start has been a bit slow, but i can't really point out one point to fix really.

other than the lack of action? The problem is that all these plot points are dropped as a matter of fact ,with plain exposition, stopping the entire episode, there's no buildup.

The easiest example to name would be dogatchmon, since he just shows up with no effort and is gone right after. Then the show tries to make it seem important by stating that haru needs to train more and navimon and gatchmon need to get along better, but then on the 4th episode haru gets gatchmon after apparently doing all that... offscreen.

You could also put haru's development in the same category, since he starts off episode 1 one way and has improved immensely since then, except we don't actually see him improving, we just see the results.

To put another way, on a conceptual level they are actually going along at a reasonable pace, but in practise they are missing important bits that should be there, bits that are instead filled with filler storywise, which to me shows a certain lack of competence.

And I'm saying that as a fan of the show.
