Post watches and other time pieces that are very /m/-friendly
WOAH-HOOOAAAAAAAH
>>14826317
I have that F-91 watch, except mine has a yellow streak around it instead of a blue one like in the pic
I would kill for one of these though, except I bet it's super heavy
>>14826409
Is that battery powered?
>>14826414
I'm not an expert but I don't think so. It's made by the Japan Handicraft Watch Association.
They also made this sweet working replica of Roger's watch from The Big OWorking as in it can tell time, it does not summon a megadeuce
>>14826323
Are there any watches that have the "radial" display similar to this Seiko watch that DON'T cost a fucking fortune?
>>14826425
>megadeuce
Oh god, you reminded me of that Big O joke theory.
>>14826576
I gotta say I don't quite understand what Big O or megadeuce is so I don't get the joke
>>14826323
I need this and a Walkman R55, Why Kojima...
I have a replica prop watch from 2001 A Space Odyssey. It's scratched to shit because it's made of titanium
>>14826859
Is it functional?
>>14826831
I tried looking for that walkman and can't even find it
>>14826831
Kojima is the master of pop culture nostalgia product placement.
The custom designed sunglasses in the game costs hundreds, and good luck getting some of those vintage wristwatches and walkmans.

Let's not forget about Hideo Gear
Found this cool piece just by searching "mecha watch" lol
>>14829485
Yeah it's a Hamilton X-01; only 2001 were made. There's 5 time zones. Sadly it's quartz though
>>14830363
>Only 2001 were made
~SUBLIMINAL MESSAGING!~
>Sadly it's quartz though
What's wrong with that?
>>14826414
Assuming it works it's almost certainly a quartz watch, which means yes it does have a battery. Real movements hard to deal with when it comes to novelty products, and you really need to be a watch maker or repairman to deal with them. This should give you an idea of the diffrence between a self winding (these are called automatic movements) and a dime store quartz watch movement. This isn't even a super end movement on the left. If you want to learn about watches go lurk the watch thread on /g/.
I haven't had a wristwatch since I was 15, I assume it's basically a fashion thing now.

Quartz are the easy way to make watches for the most part.
There are mainly 3 types of movements (I know of)
1)Mechanical, divided into winding (you wind it yourself) and automatic (motion of your arm winds it, but you have to wind it to start it if you haven't worn it in a while). Springs and jewels cogs measure time. These are usually more respected for their craftsmanship, though naturally some are complete crap. Almost all really high end watches are mechanical.
2)Quartz: Electric current from a battery causes a piece of quartz to vibrate at a regulated time frame, this moves the gears and hands. This is the most common form of watch movement. Mcdonalds happy meal watches watches come with this. However, some high end quartz do exist, like grand seikos. Mid range watches also usually are quartz. Japs are pretty much king of this type of movement.
3) tuning fork: electric charge powers a tuning fork and somehow that moves the movement inside. image related I have trouble explaining this. These are basically extinct.

Hamiltons make me sad. At one point they were THE American watch company, and now they're just a second rate part of swatch group. Damn Mountain Jews.
>>14832000
Jewellery for men mostly, plus they are convenient as anything when you're used to them. Beats the hell out of pulling your phone out of your pocket to see time.
Ripley's double face watch in Alien.
>>14826425
Well, it's only an $150 watch if I can learn to navigate amazon.jp...
>>14832008
>>14832078
I think these just won the thread
>>14832061
Now I kinda want to replicate that using a custom Casio watchband...
>>14832054
Thanks for the Expos, but that tuning fork ad seems kinda moot i mean it brags about am accuracy of within a minute a month but Quartz Casio F91s do that too
>>14834781
Well, here's the thing about tuning fork. That ad is from the 60's or early 70's. Tuning forks went extinct because of quartz does what they do better and without the humming sound. In a lot of ways you should think of tuning fork as the Mobile Workers to Quartz's Mobile Suits. Now days the only time you'll see a tuning fork is with a collector. I would really like to have one myself. As for why they brag about accuracy, the Accutron, the first tuning fork watch, was the first wrist watch approved for railroad conductors to use. Before that conductors had to use pocket watches for accuracy. This was a huge selling point at the time, and the competition was only hand crank. Really a lot to brag about at the time that ad was made.

Devon makes a cool watch, but it ain't $10,000 worth of cool.
>>14835987
I wonder if anyone actually buys those
I wish there was a watch that gave us similar "gimmick gadgets" like the watches used by this magnificent man:
>>14838024
Bond is why I really want to own an Omega some day.
Omegas are some cool ass watches.
>>14838032
Yeah, but do they have lasers and remote detonators and communicators built in?
Didn't fucking think so, cool ass watch? more like ass watch
>>14826317
Android Alien watch from Equilibrium.
I thought about getting one because I really liked the movie and I like watches, but the sole feature of having two hard-to-read watch faces and rather bland design didn't justify the asking price.
>>14839132
>Yeah, but do they have lasers and remote detonators and communicators built in?
Your describing an Apple smart watch (barring the laser).
>>14839270
You know, when the phone manufacturers started making smart watches I was super hyped, but then it turned out that the watches themselves aren't autonomous and rely on a phone to do stuff, so it's like, what's even the point right?
I just want a "gadget" watch that can perform its gadgety functions without a phone, I don't even care if it's only a little smaller than a Pip Boy, I just want a gadget watch and I want it NOW
>>14839274
(continued)
and seriously, not even a SINGLE watch with a mini laser pointer?!?!?!
Sexy color scheme on this one too
>>14826317
>tfw love watches
>tfw love /m/
>tfw prefer auto alalogue watches
>>14839132
Nigger I'll kill you.
Just as soon as I integrate a laser into my cheapo Casio watch with slide rule bezel.
>>14839274
Funny thing, the moment I got a Raspberry Pi I got hype thinking about all the ways I could use my phone as a remote terminal to a computer.
In a similar way I'm cool with smart watches being terminals for phones, it's a way to access functionality way beyond the confines of a given device.
But then again my imagination ran wild when I heard about the concept for Watch.Dogs (no comment on the quality of the overall game itself), the idea of networked devices being controlled by a single phone really got my imagination running.
>>14842980
But can it tell time?!?!?!?!?
>>14842955
desu watches in general are a pretty /m/ thing I would argue
>>14845944
Yes.
It's Pac-Man time.
>>14847211
I laughed harder at this than I should. Now I have tea out my nose.
>>14839132
How about a cigarette lighter watch?
>>14847313
Just wait for the next Samsung Smart Watch.
>>14847347
Dohoho
>>14847347
>>14838032
I got the one that Craig had in Skyfall. It's nice.
I think the Dark Side of the Moon Speedmaster would be the perfect /m/ watch. Since we all know the Speedmaster was the first watch on the moon, it has a bit of /m/ history there. Also it looks nice as fuck IMHO.
>>14849709
forgot to post pic
>>14847263
Did I miss some kind of Pac man joke?
>>14847313
That is some cool shit, although I'd imagine it would be quite a bother to light your own cig wouldn't it?
