Hiroyuki Imaishi (TTGL) has a big mecha show debuting in 2017, just in time for TTGL's 10th anniversary. It will likely be written by either Kazuki Nakashima (TTGL, KLK) or Urobuchi. Can he save original mecha anime? Unless he just does a TTGL sequel/spin-off, anyway.
> Can he save original mecha anime?
Dunno, but /m/ will hate it anyway.
Nope.
Imaishi never made a good anime, so I doubt it

How do you figure?
> Can he save original mecha anime?
Considering we can now confirm he's a talentless hack, I'm going to say no.
>>14823984
Yes but faggots like >>14824005 will hate it regardless

>It will likely be written by either Kazuki Nakashima (TTGL, KLK)
Sounds like it would be a fun but flawed show that ultimately is nothing special, the hallmark of their partnership. I found KLK to be more fun than TTGL though so maybe this will be another step in the right direction.
>or Urobuchi.
Source? That partnership seems a bit random but potentially could make something more successful.
>Can he save original mecha anime?
Much like when KLK came out and everyone asked if it would save anime, no it will not. Just like back anime didn't need "saving" back then Mecha doesn't really now. And if it did it sure as shit wouldn't be imaishi to do it.

>How do you figure?
Not that anon, and it has been a few months now so I might be remembering it wrong, but I think Urobuchi and Nakashima retweeted some stuff from that announcement and both have unannounced projects.
>Can he save original mecha anime?
When was the last time we had a really popular/successful mecha show that wasn't a sequel to a franchise that's been around for decades? The only things I can think of are A:Z, Gargantia, andSymphogear
>>14824020
Urobuchi mysteriously followed Imaishi, Shigeto Koyama and Trigger in Twitter a few months ago. Urobuchi only follows people he works with. Trigger said that Imaishi is doing a mecha show that TTGL fans will love. Shigeto Koyama said that he is doing mechanic design for a Trigger show in the future. 1+1+1=3.

A:Z was a middling success, Gargantia was a moderate success. Symphogear was actually middling in S1 and only became big on later seasons, kinda like Nanoha.

Time bokan is saving mecha

Gargantia was so successful that a planned sequel was canned and released as a novel only. From the three mecha shows released at the same time (Gargantia, MJP, VVV), it actually performed the worst in terms of expected vs actual popularity.
I'd sooner bring up Fafner, the movie and then Exodus really boosted the franchise from relative obscurity. It's not a super popular big name but it's not just a middling commercial success either.
Cross Ange is relatively well-known as the infamously bad and stupid series with all the rape in it and shit, having displaced VVV after it briefly occupied that slot. Note I am not saying most people who know it actually have seen the series, they just know what it is from memes and second hand opinion. Whether the show deserves the reputation or not is a matter for another thread.

>Urobochi
Almost as bad as Okada.
Let's hope Nakashima is the writer again.
>>14824117
>Fafner
>Obscure
In the west maybe.
Its always been relatively popular in Japan, iirc.

Butcher is miles ahead of Okada
>>14824254
No, he's just slightly better.
Also worth mentioning that his works keep getting worse.
>>14824263
Thunderbolt Fantasy was 10/10, dunno what you're talking about.
>>14824189
Last time I did a Google metrics check on it, the searches do largely come from Moonland, yes.
Though it's very picky about if you look for Fafner, or Fafner in the Azure, or Sokyuu no Fafner...
Google search metrics are the unexplored frontier of shitpost material though.
>>14824117
>with all the rape in it
cool lies

>or Urobuchi
He is working on Godzilla anime and Thunderbolt Fantasy Season 2.
