What are some notable alien races and supernatural races in Mecha? Which is the scariest to you guys?

- BETA (Muv-Luv)
- Space Monsters (Gunbuster/Diebuster)
- Radam (Tekkaman Blade)
- Festum (Fafner)
- Vajra (Macross)
- ELS (Gundam 00)

Any others I'm missing here?
>>
>>14819461
The scariest is a tie between Festum and ELS.

Festum because the only way to fight them also gives them greater insight in how to better kill your species and even then you're only buying time for your species and the ELS who if they were actually evil tehre is literally no way to defeat them at all

The Grados are actually just humans. That's literally a huge plot point in Layzner, the main character is half-Gradosian and it torpedoes the Gradosian ideology of racial superiority when they find out how closely related to humans they actually are

But the Grados really do manage to curbstomp Earth, if only because their mecha were more advanced. Earthlings manage to drive them off eventually, though.
>>
>>14819477
They have mobile suit-tier weapons and orbital weapons that are strong enough to wipe out the planet if they used them.
>>

The cthlhu of Iczer-1.

Best anime aliens IMO, much too often they are just sterile and friendly looking. Really boring if you ask me.
>>
>>14819461
The Genjyuu from Gunparade March work pretty much identically to the BETA except on a larger strength scale. The BETA themselves really aren't that powerful, they're just in a world that's rather limited power-wise.

The Zentradi and Meltrandi from Macross would count too, even though they're very humanoid in appearance the giant-ness of them definitely adds more of a uniqueness to them. And I would have mentioned the Cthulu but >>14819523 beat me to the punch.
>>
>>14819527
The BETA aren't even combat units, they are mining drones. We have no idea really what capabilities the Creators have if they made a construct race for war.

But seeing as their monsters could make nightmare dimensions among other things, yeah I'd say they aren't anything to be fucked with.
>>
>>14819559
IIRC, the Radam took and captured D-Boy's family and then possessed them with their higher evolved parasitic forms. And then completely were terraforming the Earth to an environment more suited to their original homeworld's own one.

ELS, while said to be peaceful race still fucked up planets by assimilating them.

Though I think they are more on the cooler aspect than scary since they can assimilate technologies and the stuff that the ELS comes up with looks really nice.

Then again when you think of the shit they have assimilated on their expedition for new planets there are probably some nasty looking ELS out there.

What's scariest about the radam is the way they colonised earth and covered it with their hives and that pink shit. Makes it look like a bunch of gross parasites covering the planet. Reminds me of how the aliens in War of the Worlds terraformed the place.
>>

The scariest are the Bydo but they are not really aliens because they can infect literally anything and have multiple dimensions occupied, also they can jump trough dimensions and time travel. One of the Bydo Cores can create matter and it's implied that it's not the last one alive.
They are so scary that humans made a ship that can shoot nightmares caused by Bydo at them.
>>
>>14833511

The Bydo can also consume and assimilate space-time.
>>
>>14833511
Also in one of the games they infected a entire fleet and transformed the captain into a bio computer thing and only woke him up when he needed to give orders to the fleet on a fight , he never realized he was Bydo so he didn't understand why his fellow humans were attacking him.

The JAM is a threat in two ways:
1. There is no misunderstanding involved.
2. It has had a strategy to subjugate humanity since day 1.

Well, I personally find the Vajra rather terrifying in that they are like a hive of bees.
If you don't fuck with them, they don't fuck with you. Its their abilities that are rather scary when you think about it.

With nothing but what seem to be just evolution(until they reached the state where they could direct their own evolution via feedback from damage and casualties, I guess), they managed to evolve the ability to do fold jumps, grow missiles out of their bodies, grow guns and beam cannons that can punch through a warship, and rather recently they evolved the ability to tank anti-matter nukes, bullets, explosives, beam weapons(Excluding high-powered ones), and they have a galactic scale fold network that has zero time lag.

>Beta
Low tier, they aren't even a 'real' race. Just mining constructs

>Space Monsters
AFAIK they are not much of a threat so long as its a space-faring civ it's fighting. Macross by the 2050's could probably beat them

>Festum
don't know anything about these guys

>Vajra
They dont go out of their way to fuck people up, if they do its probably the same situation as the space monsters above

>Radam
Can infect life form with some kind of parasite that gives them power armor somehow which can withstand a nuke, survive reentry(depending on plot shield level), move insanely fast and have built in wave cannons while enhancing the hosts natural abilities. Radam with a shit ton of tekkamen would probably fuck up a good number of /m/ verses

>Bydo
Going by the R-Type games
The best you can do is stop them for a few year before they come back again. IMO they are probably the worst they never seem to stop coming back, and this is in a setting where mass-produced fighters are standard equipped with a weapon that can equal or exceed that of a battleship. Something interesting is what would happen if an ELS or something else tried to assimilate a bydo
>>
>>14838506
>AFAIK they are not much of a threat so long as its a space-faring civ it's fighting. Macross by the 2050's could probably beat them
I remember someone saying that the Gunbuster manga/novel implied that the space monsters are the white cells out to purge a infection on the body of a super cosmic being, the infection being humans
>>
>>14838506
>Vajra close to Space Monsters
I don't know much about Space Monsters but the Vajra was only killable via MDE weaponry by the end of Frontier, they evolved themselves to shrug off most of humanity's weapons(bullets, relatively low-powered beams and lasers, missiles), and they needed MDE enchancements to even hurt the Vajra at that point.

Needing weapons that fuck space itself to kill an enemy says a lot of about the enemy's power.
>>
>>14838526
Well, there's also the implication that humans would evolve and take over as the new "white blood cells" ala Topless in Diebuster.

>don't know anything about these guys

Basically they originally weren't intentionally evil. They're just a hive mind species that don't understand the concept of individuality and thus they think something is broken about us and they're trying to fix us so that we exist "correctly". The problem is they don't realize the assimilation process is something humans don't survive, because they don't understand the concept of death either. The conflict is so dangerous because they're very concerned about our well-being and thus very determined to "help" us.

The problem is the more they assimilated and came in contact with humanity, the more they absorb our negative traits. Idun learned how to hate and represents the will of the Festum to destroy humanity.
>>
>>14839371
Forgot a part. Essentially they themselves because individuals after taking those negative traits, which turns them into outright malevolent towards humans.

Some Festum anyway. Others learned love and want to help us, and some wanted out but now the evil Festum are strongarming them into fighting us.

Infection? Dying? These things can stomp everything you've ever known like it's an ant hill. And that begs the question: what the FUCK are Buster Machines even made of that they can destroy these things en masse? What would happen if humanity turned that technology unto itself like it's done so many times?

I can't think of a scarier alien species than the X Parasites from Metroid Fusion.

Not only do they kill you soon after infecting you but they can mimic you not only physically, but absorb and use your memories for their own gain as well as perfectly mimic mechanical parts from Samus' suit and from the biomechanical weapons that were housed in the station. In addition they can mix and match DNA to create monstrous results . If it weren't for Samus sparing that baby metroid's life forever ago, they would have eventually made it out of the B.S.L or SR388 and spread across the universe, leading every other living organism to extinction.

And the scariest part? Despite how cunning they were shown to be, even going so far as to using a Scientist's memory to activate the self-destruct explosives onboard the B.S.L to sacrifice themselves in order to keep the main population on SR388 safe from Samus, they were still just parasites. They had no deep, grand, goal. Despite their massive capacity for intelligence and ability to mimic beings with higher thought, they had no other goal but to fulfill the basic instinct of reproduction.

So how powerful are the Festum?

There's a bunch of alien races not listed in this thread, but most people have named the big, horrifying ones already.

I mean I guess there's that alien from the Dagwon OVA, which was a pretty horrifying little specimen. Basically it regenerates by throwing bits of itself out to other planets, and the seeds copy whatever it is they see first before digging into the planet for a bit. Then a few years later the adolescent form pops up, grows for a bit, and if you don't see it (which you might not since it's almost assuredly fauna native to the area or something normal), turns into a giant energy monster and destroys the planet it's around. But what's more horrifying than that is that sometimes they can copy a sapient species, at which point the adolescent is a fully sapient being who will eventually grow into a giant energy creature and forcibly kill everything on the planet whether it wants to or not, and if its body has to drag it kicking and screaming, it will. (They're also abhorrently hard to kill once they reach that state - a combination of literally all of the various Dag powers killed it, but considering part of that combination included "being who can generate and output actual literal infinite energy only effectively limited because the pilot's body can't" that's not saying much.

>AFAIK they are not much of a threat

ahahahahahahahahahahaha

no.

I mean the Bydo are worse, but they're the fucking Bydo. None of those other guys stand a chance against the Space Monsters ecept maybe the Festum. MAYBE.

>>14847517
>And that begs the question: what the FUCK are Buster Machines even made of that they can destroy these things en masse?

It's explained, I forget precisely what but it's pretty HOLY GOD THAT'S CRAZY as memory serves.

>What would happen if humanity turned that technology unto itself like it's done so many times?

...I think that happens in The Next Generation?

Anons, why must you be massive faggots.
>>
>>14833531
And thought. Literally. If you connect your brainwaves with one (like say, a telepath trying to read or communicate with one), there is now a another Bydo. It used to be you and your ship. Whoops.

>>14837070
BETA's numbers would become more Bydo, although it should be pointed out the Bydo have entire dimensions to themselves they've invested by now. VERY. VERY QUICKLY. They're even present in anti-space; the information-void of unreality outside of the tesseract-between-dimensions-corridor (d26).

Festum would be utterly fucked, ELS would survive direct assimilation but have no hope of outfighting them ESPECIALLY if they're using those liquid metal mobile suits (giant colony lasers are mounted standard on mass-produced fighters in the r-type setting; and the average cruiser's prow gun is a "like a balloon" planetbuster if given a few minutes to charge instead of seconds like it does in fleet battles)

Vajra have similar space-rending weaponry standards, and so can put up a decent fight. However they'll be severely outnumbered and outgunned overall, and as soon as a queen gets turned....

Festum would be fine against the Bydo.

Now imagine instead a species deliberately designed for this; using psi-tech, black magic (no seriously), genetic and subspace engineering on human DNA, specifically hardcoded to be incapable of any positive emotion ever.

It could infect you from a single grain of pollen touching the ship you're piloting, from a single brainwave contact, or from shooting or touching you just once. You and the machine you're on are both converted together into single biomech entities, partly out of phase with reality, and while intelligent, the hardcoded locks built into your genes prevent you from ever having properly functioning IFF beyond "this is part of my group, those are not" or knowing what exactly it is you do to anything you even come close to.

Dumped down the drain when they were first awakened, into a different dimension, where they thrived, of all things, thrived, took over, and then spread, looking for enemies and what they need to protect - something that due to an early awakening had never yet been programmed in.

Planets are edible, fleets are converted or vaporized, eaten and made into new ones as they breed, civilizations are just big clumps that don't matter, and sometimes, SOMETIMES, the highest lead organisms notice something and decide to turn away; such as one time when a Kombiler realized that those things they were all eating were where they'd originally came from, and just... left, unable to ever communicate, to stand guard against things beyond that world in orbit of a nearby planet.

At least until something capable of consuming and assimilating even that species showed up to threaten everything.

>>14860698
Nah, their scale, assimilation speed/capacity and actual destructive capability make a run against the festum a matter for a squad of minor ships, maybe with the Boldo they nest in to make sure.

Spergbattler pls go

Dude the Fafners are fighting Festum off with laser cannons and Railguns, and those *work* (the black holes are a fine weapon though). That's bad news for Festum.

The Vajra at least have and resist dimensional weaponry/conditions, and so can actually damage Bydo as well as survive for a bit in similar conditions.
>>
>>14860735
Vagauina got written out because their shit though
>>
>>14860739
I'm in no way denying that. Though at least they were fighting with shit whose warheads and beam cannons erase space.

The Festum are a step below Beast-Infection (homeworld cataclysm) in terms of how they're actually a threat.

>as soon as a queen gets turned....
Well, there's one specific Vajra Queen, but quite a few Semi-Queens, but the core of the fold network is the Queen.
>>
>>14860742
That's wrong though. Varja can't do shit to them or access their home universe.

I'd say the strength of Festum depends on how prevalent Mir's like Altair are.

If Altair is one of a kind in space, then yeah Festum are fucked, but if more Mir's are floating out in space with Altair's level of strength then the Festum aren't as badly off.

Since Altair basically showed up in the last episode and basically chumped the strongest Mir on Earth like it was nothing to the point where the Tatsumiya Mir's only option was to just make it fall asleep.

They can still defend for a bit. They'd lose hard after a little while, but at least it's not instant.

>All these R-Type fans

You guys have got to check out Metal Black. The Nemesis may as well be the Bydo's cousin with how mind-bendingly out there their powers are. Seriously, that ending is such a mindfuck.
>>
>>14860685
ELS assimilates and copies the other creature they are fighting/interacting though. If the enemy have tech that they lack the ELS will take the information, probably sent it to the main hive and change into the ELS version of the enemies or just outright ram the enemy and take over they are fighting and it only took a fraction of minute or probably less for them to process all the information and transform. The only way to avoid this is to destroy the units they assimilate hoping they didn't acquire the information of said machine/creatures. Even if the target survives the assimilation they are still fucked because ELS messes with the brain and body.

You shoot them, they learn the nature of attack and use it. You have an advanced shield system? The'll duplicate it. You have that big ship shooting massive lasers? Prime directives is to ram bunch of em into it take over or learn and duplicate it.
