Whatever plot threads the first season had are totally abandoned so that Madoka, Lan, and Muginami can have lesbian hijinks for like half the series. Then Madoka brainswaps with some alien princess and I forgot what happens but they waste like five episodes on that. And the ending is literally wow it's fucking nothing.

It's funny because S1 sparked a lot of speculation and raised some intriguing questions that hinted the show could get deeper than what it appeared to be, and then it just got massively, massively, massively shallower.

It's been awhile but basically the plot is that there was some kind of Second Impact-like event that basically was a huge space shockwave that tore shit up and killed a lot of people. And then afterwards people realized a second one was coming. So all the kids grew up in the shadow of that and mankind has basically devoted all resources to trying to find some way to stop it, and the main character goes into space to attend a space school where they practice piloting spaceships and shit to stop the Second Impact somehow(it's literally called Second Wave).

After that it's basically school/slice of life exploring the insecurities and relationships of all the characters. The main girl is definitely spaghetti as fuck and her boyfriend has some sort of autism. So actually it is kind of like Gunparade March + EVA with lolis.

Being real it's about a step or two down from sidonia in terms of animation and looks. You can't really have proper QUALITY when everything is a CGI Model, that's the reason a lot of /m/ shows opt for cgi mechs. Real problems are in things like character movements looking clunky and relatively ugly facial expressions. You remember Jimmy Newtron's TV cartoon on nickolodeon years ago, it's not as pretty as that.

Honestly the ending wasn't great just ok, your looking too deep on some parts. Also with how the plot was set up they dug themselves a grave near the end of s2 when trying to decide what to do with the mc and his arm. Then couldn't decide character motives for each side and things just happen. Its a mess but a watchable one. Also by mid point of s1 the timeline is fucked by multiples of time travelling super Jaguar with different motives.

I actually watched this relatively recently. Wasn't terrible but ultimately it was a fairly run-of-the-mill sports anime with mecha trappings. The races were fun but I thought they were let down by the ugly 3D.

This. For a show about Madoka and her friends the second season barely gives them anything important to do.

Also to make matters worse Guvvigivvio and the two others are being mopey, angsty and generally unfun which is a stark contrast to their portrayal in the first season. Mostly Villagiuvio's. The second season lacks the comfy and fun feeling of the first one, and doesn't even replace it with a serious plot or cool mecha fights. It mostly replaces it with just nothing.

I really did enjoy G-Reco though. After the mess that was AGE, it was nice to have something that felt like an 80s Gundam series with modern animation. I really enjoyed the characters too, and the crazy Tomino dialogue really took me back. It's very definitely nostalgiafagging on my end, but I had a good time.

My biggest gripe with it is the flatness of the main character. Hell the best established and developed character is the designated bad guy. The animation issues are only noticeable if you are being nitpicky. Which I've come to learn most /m/en are both nitpicky and contrarian, hence why I make sure to watch every show that's being overly shitposted while it's airing.
