I'm conflicted about this, the girl & robot have good designs and this is a well done clip but I'm triggered by anime doing 3D human characters.

First season started a bit poorly but the cast grew on me and the plot really picks up near the end. The concept of team piloting (it's not only the girl, each mecha gets 5 people in there) is kinda rare in mecha nowadays so it's a plus.

It's actually not that bad. IMO it's one of the most fluid 3D I've ever seen, which fit very well to the character design, and in some shots you can't even notice it's made in CG

Really the CG on the girl in your clip is very well executed, it actually emulates 2D anime outlines really well.

It's a shame, but as long as 3D is cheaper to do than hand-made animation, it will be a thing.
However, there will always be place for traditional styles (just like puppetry and stop motion still exist nowadays, even if niche).

Also, theres' always the possibility of 3D improving too, with better textures/lighting or framerate, so sometime we can see 3D that supposedly can look as good. I know it's wishful thinking, but who knows.

It's not. As a general rule, 3D animation is just as expensive.

CGI is used as a conscious stylistic choice, not a cost-saving measure. It's used because it has a number of non-trivial advantages in terms of making certain animation techniques possible or feasible.

And yes, it's improving at a rather impressive pace, so I have fairly high hopes for the future of 3D animation.

Xrd isn't even good because of the flat look, it's good because DYNAMIC CAMERA ANGLES are rather underplayed in fightans, and being able to go from the 2d look to DYNAMIC blows minds real easily.

Kaoruko kinda gets on my nerves, but I have to admit that I'm really looking forward to seeing Ryuki get put in his place.

The "plot" is actually serviceable. There's plenty of character arcs and backstory. Maybe the premise is stupid, but for something stupid it does a decent job out of it after about the mid-way point.

Reoko's team, though, is super goofy and around the Bubuki battle arc the shift in tone towards banter and reaction humor became apparent. Reoko herself is sort of dark but in a hot fiery sort of way so while not goofy she actually keeps the narrative pretty light, even when she's reminiscing on Migiwa's rape cage.

Minus the first few episodes the show is pretty overall filled with some sort of youthful irreverent energy with some very dark spots like murdering politicians.

I've said it before, Bubuki's plot has some rough and janky moments to it, but it's the kind of jank that works, and I wouldn't really have it any other way.

Bubuki Buranki was a surprise love when I first saw it. The first few episodes are very different tonally from what the series eventually becomes, and at the time I hated it because the main kids were unlikeable pricks and stayed on because the villains were much more compelling. Eventually the show sort of catches a stride, the villains really do end up being some of the best in the cast, and along with them the main cast improves as well.

If you like over the top animation, super robots, cute girls/boys, strong men/women, bizarre humor, and/or international characters there's generally fun to be had in S1. For me it was also a treat because this is one of those rare shows that really does well with doing 3d animation and using 2d to supplement.

Narrative-wise there is justification for the paucity of really dark moments but depending on the writing the entire show could have been very different tonally. The first episode makes the kids look like a bunch of scrappy terrorists and that sort of edge could have been carried throughout the show but from a construction perspective they chose to make the visuals and representation of most key events lighter (though still literally lit darkly, though one could argue that the show gets brighter in the later parts as well) even if they were topically heavy.

I missed it while it aired, and I'm catching up with the first season just now that I found out there was gonna be a second one. Pretty good so far. The CG animation is better than expected, though some of those animu designs look pretty ridiculous in 3D (particularly the lancer guy).

These two parties have a certain history one of the bad guys killed one of the good guys parents in cold blood a father murder in front of there own child. In the child's eye this is traumatic moment in there life perhaps something they will never forget/harbor aggressive feeling toward the scenario taken place.
