I'm still making my way through 0079 and I have a lot of catching up to do iwth Gundam, but in all the /m/ discussions I've seen about "horrible cancerous Tomino writing" the "Tomino is objectively bad" types came across as the same clueless wannabe-critics that have plagued this board since I've started going here in 2008 and the defenders actually had arguments.

There was a really funny exchange about an "objectively bad, nonsensical, pretentious, autistic" decision to not show a character's death as it occurred that "everyone agreed is bad" where the thematic purpose for not showing it was blatantly obvious that even a child should be able to understand it (which is appropriate since G-Reco is a kids show).

Get rid of Tomino and use someone with actual talent and not a fucking hack?

The problem of GReco is that it was to much to tell about in just 26 episodes, thus the pacing problems and ocational story-jumpings. It would be better if Tomino is given enought breathable space.

What's wrong with King Gainer? I just finished it and thought it was pretty ok. Two episodes had movie quality animation, a few episodes had really nice plot lines, the colors and backgrounds were always fantastic, I loved the characters, and the only real issue I had with it was the last arc was it was a whole lot of nothing, and even though individually it had a lot of really nice things going for it, somehow it was less than the sum of it's parts, and it had all of these fantastic elements that just ended up creating something above average.

The show was typical Tomino garbage. Gain is set up to be this great resistance fighter, but in reality he's worse than Kamina and Holland combined. SInce not only was his treatment of Gainer shitty, the guy actually considered engaging in eugenics. (early on in the episodehe says something along the lines of "We can't afford to keep around those who hold us back" or something like that.) which was then followed by the offensive boxing match, and Gainer own characters spirals into misery of allowing himself to be bullied by Gain and do what he says, yet early on he takes a good, interesting approach by avoiding anyone, but Gain didn't like that I guess so the boxing match happened to beat it out of him.
