I know that because basically all the named characters are neutral or morally grey, not good. The stasi under Schmidt were most definitely causing problems, but people like Beatrix could have certainly brought change to that. Not maybe, definitely. Irisdina is a lot smarter than Katia and would have been a larger influence on the direction the DDR could have taken. Beatrix was not rabid, she was very squared away. To claim two women who were more than capable of rallying a sizable military force wouldn't be competent enough to practically run a country is disingenuous at best and intellectually dishonest at worst. I don't really like Katia, since she didn't achieve anything substantially for long enough which means Irisdina died in vain, sure, the DDR was "free" for a few months but the German people routed and became refugees, relying on others for charity.
