I re-watched it back in 2010 or so, long after I first watched it on Toonami. Nostalgia is a big part of it, but I feel that people hate on it more because of the flaws that are normal to most shows of the time but that they didn't notice when they watched it as kids.

Like most 90s shows you kind of have to turn your brain off a bit while watching it, but keeping an open mind and indulging the writer's intentions can make the show surprisingly good. It's more like a soap opera than an actual mecha show, since everything revolves around the characters and how they change over time, and logic takes a back seat to that.

Wing is pretty similar to 00, but I'd say 00 season 1 is much better than it. Wing is the Gundam that most people grew up with, alongside SEED. I marathoned it once after I had already watched most of it dubbed on television, and it was alright.

It's about the same thickness as any other shield in its respective show--dare to compare it with the Unicorn's shield. In the UC, mobility is what really equates to survivability, anyway, since beam weaponry cuts through anything without an I-field like nothing. In that case, having a smaller, lighter shield is more desirable.

Or, if by "thin" you actually meant "narrow," you scum-sucking ignoramus bereft of proper English vocabulary, then the point still holds. You don't a shield covering the entire mech if said mech isn't going to rely on the shield to survive, anyway.

In the Sinanju's case, the shield is more of a weapons holder than being used as an actual shield

and even if the shield functions poorly as a shield, I should also point out that for a high mobility MS it has a lot of useless ornamental fluff like the armor trim which probably adds a few tons. It's very clear the Sinanju is meant to be stylized and to strike fear into the EFF as a man who resembles Char, at least he has the piloting skill to pull it off
