I really don't understand why they don't just make cockpits and show cockpit view, kinda like they do with Iron Man

Edge of Tomorrow could've gone that route, but nope, Tom Cruise's face need some camera time

Patrician taste, my friend.
>>
>>14765461

It made sense in Edge of Tomorrow, since it was frequently shown that against mimic weapons armor basically did jack shit, so a very low armored approach makes perfect sense in those situations. Any piece of metal not necessary to the jacket saves $$$, and a face plate wouldn't have saved any lives.

In the Matrix, however, there was really no excuse. We see tons of people get ripped to shreds by robot tentacles specifically because they had no protection at all. And based on the 'cutting into the ship' scene from the first movie, while armored cockpits wouldn't have been invulnerable they very easily could have bought time, sometimes crucial seconds.
>>
>>14765485
Man, that scene where he just assblasts virtually everyone in that warms the cock(les) of my heart.

Isn't that basically what hi automatic handgun is? I'm presuming the kick on that thing would be impossible for any normal person to use with any accuracy.
>>
>>14766592
Nope, it's just a 9mm burst fire.

We have a Glock 18 which is auto fire, and of course various SMG.

Its also explicitly inferior in ever way to a conventional tank setup with the same guns mounted on it.
>>
>>14767116
Of course m8, tanks and shit will always be superior but that is not what I was talking about, I'm talking about putting him in front with nothing between him and the enemy, hell the octopus robots defeat him simply by flyign straight into him, they had conept art and even used in the animatrix versions that had protective armor for the pilot
>>
>>14767143
in some defense of the movie, didn't they say those were worker/construction mechs fitted with huge guns ASAP to fight with? still should have some protection even as a labor mech, but helps make it a little more digestible I guess.

What makes the AMP suit work is that they acknowledge the big-ass glass canopy as being militarily unsound; the suits are just re-purposed heavy-lifting equipment.

Why are western mecha designers so obsessed with greebles and exposed parts? It's always in the name of "realism" but real world fighting machines are not covered in a bajillion panel lines.

>>14771156
Star Wars gets away with it because the ships have strong silhouettes and color palettes. Even then, the greebling tends to be rather conservative or justified by the sheer size of the object in question. Trying to build panels large enough to give a big Star Destroyer a smooth hull would be extremely difficult for engineers. To that end, it's pretty much the same mount of proportional detail as real life warships.

But with other IPs you get something comparable in size to a truck and it has so many panels lines it looks like it has leprosy.
