It actually has the same faceplate as the Forbidden Gundam. Or rather the Forbidden has Neros' faceplate.

I'll see if I have time next week, or rather, whenever the discs come out. I want to compare the audio first before I put out any sources for others to work with, because I'm wondering if the cuts I did on the R2 DVD release would sync up with the BD. They likely won't, but if they did, I'd rather just provide the pre-cut AAC tracks that I pieced together a few years ago.
>>
>>14764587
This, why bother, it's a foregone conclusion that it'll be over here in due time. At which point someone will put it up with the subs right from it.

At the same time, if someone happens to put them up and put subs to them before that I'd still download them watch them, and then buy it again later just because. But G holds a special place in my heart.

I just started watching G yesterday, coincidentally, and I'm fucking loving it so far.

It's been like a month since Bunnyhat releasted anything, and six months since he's released anything not involving Toku. So It'd probably take longer than that.

Sad... It's news like this that makes me wish I was a better coder. I had a few python scripts that I used during the last few EG releases that really sped things up for me, logistically speaking, but it was my goal to package them together as a set of automation tools for BD encoding and sub muxing. A lot of it was "hard coded", meaning the scripts would look for specifically named files, formats, etc, and only work on those, but when everything was in place, I could have a whole disc encoded in a day just by firing off the script.

I wanted to leave those tools in the community's hands, but packaging it together would require more practice on my part.
>>
>>14767413
It doesn't seem like it'd be that difficult to generalize.

Format targeting, that might be an issue, but you can easily just throw in a few lines asking the user to input target files/directories, or go "ok look at files in this specific folder and do X to Y," etc.

Usually I think people would write this stuff as shell scripts though, but I'm sure python can do regular expressions as well.

Long story short you probably did all the hard work already, the problem you've described with hardcoded values is TRIVIAL to fix.

The m2ts remuxing was necessary in order to use ffindex (this makes it cross-compatible in WINE). Otherwise, I'd have paired this with DGNVDec to run off the GPU and skip the remuxing step.
>>
>>14767478
Also, disregard some of the unnecessary module imports in the beginning, I was messing around with it.
>>
>>14767478
>>14767483
>>14767484
K but I'm warning you, I am not a fan of python.

It's a fine language for people who don't code but it's full of the dumbest anti-coder quirks like using whitespace in place of curly braces.
>>
>>14767495
Also the code seems legit from a cursory glance (not in a position to run and debug it on my end), I'm not exactly sure what you're worried about.

Shit you even have comments in there, that's already above and beyond what I'd expect from most people.
>>
>>14767495
>fine language for people who don't code
That should tell you enough about me.

>>14767530
I hear this a lot from programmers, so I wanted to build a good habit going into this. Like I said, it *works*, I just wanted it to not require so much instruction. For example, you have to name things a certain way, place all your m2ts files in one folder, carefully insert your avisynth filtering into the python script so that it spaces out perfectly. If I could, I'd have the user generate one master .avs file and then let the script copy the contents of that into individual scripts, that way it doesn't involve me escaping into the avisynth space with arduous print commands.
>>
>>14767567
Adding to this, it wouldn't incredibly hard (Indeed, I could do this at the time I wrote it - it would take a good deal of concentration to get through it today though), but I wanted to sort all the generated files into episode-numbered subfolders. I created a different encoding script that could mirror a folder tree structure in order to remux them (it used a dirty search and replace function to do the job though), so it could perhaps be merged with this.
>>

>ripped and encoded version makes it available to everyone as anime fansubbing has done for decades

Not to sound entitled, but fuck me for being a poor student with no bluray player or 200+ euros spent on importing from rightstuff, right? Not worth ripping it for the vast majority of the audience who would never be able to buy it in the first place, am I right?
>>
>>14770018
Meanwhile, people have no problem ripping Discotek's stuff, since there's usually only one print run, on average (heck, Monster Farm finally has subs on the net).

Still, patience is a virtue. I'm sure someone will rip the new G Gundam stuff sooner or later.

>>
>>14770116
I posted the script above in >>14767478

This was my script for Victory's 16mm encodes, but all my scripts have been the same since, just with different Avisynth filters in middle.
>>
>>14770634
The way I see it, we should factor out any non-constant commands/filters into separate files that are taken as inputs to the script. Then we could just chain the commands together like "avs2yuv | x264 | ffmpeg [remux args]" using subprocess.Popen and subprocess.PIPE without needing to write intermediate x264 output.
>>
>>14771154
Could a three-way pipe like that work? Most of this goes beyond me. In theory, if you replace your ffmpeg binary with the 10bit x264-capable version, you could skip x264 entirely.
>>
>>14770018
A cheap solution for BD playback is an old, used PS3. You can literally find them for under $100 if you look, and I know that's a lot for a poor student, but that beats the hell out of upgrading a computer.
>>
>>14771200
Should work, piping is just sending the output of the previous command as input to the next command. So x264 takes the output of avs2yuv as its input, and ffmpeg takes the output of x264 as (one) of its inputs.

>In theory, if you replace your ffmpeg binary with the 10bit x264-capable version, you could skip x264 entirely.
Easiest solution is letting the user customize their piped commands depending on what they have available; as a script that interfaces other programs I don't know if we can completely insulate technical details or not.
>>
>>14771154
My only issue with the pipe method is that chaining operations like that should occur outside the user's POV.

Throwing up pipes just asks for people to get confused as to what they do, and as straightforward as they are it still feels a bit unreasonable to make noncoders deal with codespeak.
>>
>>14771370
Yeah, this. I wanted to kinda lock this down, or rather, only require configuration once, which is why I had separate, but largely identical scripts for my various shows.

I did the sync work back in 2012/2013 and transcoded it to AAC, but sadly did not preserve a lossless copy. I am willing to go as far as ripping the raw AC3 from the discs themselves, but I'm not re-editing the sync work. Chances are it needs to be redone anyway for the BDs.

One more thing. G is particularly annoying to sync because the dub mix is overly compressed trash with an almost completely different sound effects bed. The BGM is the only reliable sync point, but it's very difficult to line up due to the compression.

So I can say at a quick glance that is probably Sunrise's most "even" 16mm transfer. It's got an excellent balance of grain. Clearly cleaned up a little bit, but very tastefully, and the color is fantastic. It's also a shockingly stable image

This is probably what Victory's 16mm episodes should have looked like.

>I also wanted to ask: what has your own experience with Gundam been up till now?
>Okada: I saw bits and pieces of the original Mobile Suit Gundam when it was rebroadcast on TV when I was a kid, but otherwise, I’ve only come to it as an adult. Chasing after Director Tomino (Yoshiyuki)’s Z Gundam (1985) and ZZ Gundam (1986)… Oh, G Gundam (1994) is the only one that I saw as it was airing. Just watching the opening animation gave me the feeling that “Something incredible has began”—it was a huge shock to my system (laughs).
>Like, “The Earth is the (Boxing) Ring”…
>Okada: And it was really cool. But in the end, the image of “The First Gundam” is the strongest. I watched it again when I’d become a creator myself, and I just wanted to be involved in creating something like that. That’s how amazing it was. The battle scenes, too, but most of all, the way that the characters came across on the screen gave me goosebumps. Like, it really felts like they were alive on the screen. Many things have been said about them, but that’s precisely why (I loved them).
Why Okada dont made a G Gundam show?

So here's a close up on the waveforms for episode one. Incredibly, the sync actually holds up for the OP (off by a few frames, but it's tolerable), and perfectly for the first half. Once we hit the the eyecatch though, it falls apart. The dub's liberties with sound effects and the difference in the commercial break reconstruction on the BD mean this was almost guaranteed to happen.

The first marker on the timeline is approximately where the audio for the first half fades out. The dub is synced up to this point with zero effort. The second marker shows the midway point in the eyecatch, where the sound effects fails to lineup between the tracks. The third marker shows the return of the second half's audio, where there is now a huge discrepancy between the tracks.

By the way, this is comparing my previous sync work from the R2 DVD rip, *not* the straight AC3 track from the R1. Anyone pursuing this project will have some work to do...

You mean the batch encode script? Yeah, you just need to change the AVIsynth filtering in it as I described above, but it's not really anything special. The hard work is the sub and sub resyncing. I did a small test encode for ep 1 and I can safely say it doesn't need any filtering in my opinion, so it should be very easy to encode.

what i'm not confident about is the encoding. I don't do that much video editing so I don't know what's involved in the encoding, and to be honest my preference would be to just not do any encoding and losslessly applying the extra audio track and subs onto the video as it is on disc, if that's even possible?

In case it's not clear, I don't mean litterally onto the files in the disc so the subs are on the disc, I just mean rip the video that is on the disc, and then applying it to the ripped files without re-encoding the files

I haven't had time yet to compile everything, but I DID make something to get you guys going.

This should give you a template of styles, chapters, fonts, encoding settings (load it in mediainfo), and generally how I'd like to put it together. I did resyncing for this one episode, so you have that, but I'll look into ripping all the discs by tomorrow if possible. For those wondering, doing this one episode did make me contemplate it, but going through the all the manual work just reminded me of why I left this, so don't get your hopes up.

The filename is just to fuck with you.

Thanks for being the hero we don't deserve RX.

Alright, lemmie know if you get around to getting that lossless dub audio.

If not, do you have any idea where else I could find that/who else I should ask?

After dropping 250$ on the BD I don't really have the money to go get the dub DVD's just to rip the audio from them

You can find the R1s on ADC if you're desperate, but I can have the ripped AC3 tracks for you definitely by Monday.

ADC?

And yeah, monday is fine, just whenever you get the time, i'm in no rush

This is from RX's sample encode. I don't think my insall of MPC is set up right as far as filters and stuff goes so this may not look ideal but whatever

I had to do some manual cleanup/color correction along the points where the stills got stitched but overally that was pretty minimal

I swear I've seen that one that's front and center in SRW from some show. It wasn't Gundam, I think it was an enemy from super show from the 80s.

There's rips already?

>>14785932
For reference it was in either Alpha or @G, possibly both. But I know an enemy machine that had a head like that with that same crest above the helmet.
