How come Xebec is so underrated when it comes to mecha. With everything they've made you'd expect a bit of recognition, but instead people only think of Gainax or Sunrise when they think of a good mecha studio.

No one should be thinking about good mecha studios. You should think about the people behind the shows instead of their employer. The people come and go, but the studio's name stays the same so it doesn't really mean anything when you say studio so-and-so made this show and that show.

Their good shows, while usually having interesting ideas and flashes of brilliance, generally come with serious fault, from what I remember.
