It's about a boy Birdy murders and assimilates as the split personality of a bi-gendered, shapeshifting, presumably hermaphroditic space amazon.

Ironically, it's all played for laughs.

She spends most of the time as a nagging chick voice in his head until there's evil afoot, then she backseats him and beats the shit out of unsuspecting bad guys with her bare hands.

If you can overlook how insane the entire premise is (which is probably why you're here), then it's a YMMV kind of series.

The old OVA was pretty decent tho baka desu senpaitachi.

Because Birdy isn't moeshit and she developed a love interest for a childhood friend who immigrated to Earth. It basically tanked in Japan because otakus couldn't self insert.

Regardless of that, S2 was great.

I don't see any photo of a victim on that page. More importantly, not every victim of electrocution suffers the same and if they were I'd be wondering why the boy in that scene has no electrical burns or visible exit wound where the electricity shot out of him. Some people who die of electrical shock suffer no external signs of any kind and literally just die. Usually immediately. Especially if the shock hits their heart, which considering where Birdy is holding him, he almost certainly did.

He looks like he's knocked out rather than dead, since rolled back eyes and foaming is pretty common as a visual shorthand for unconscious. And the perception is more important than the reality in this case. Not that foaming is a common real reaction anyway. I'm sure it does happen, but burns or immediate death with no visible sign is more common.

Holy fuck I had no idea Kawajiri directed the Birdy OVA series.

As much as I think the guy deserves a lot of credit and has a unique artistic voice, I feel that generally his series/movies and even his animation have a kind of wooden feeling to them from what I've seen. Like... I dunno, there's just something that feels a bit stiff about how stuff is drawn and moves. It doesn't ruin the experience but it's noticeable if you watch the action scenes in stuff like Ninja Scroll or Cyber City Oedo or look through the stuff he's personally animated.

In all the clips I've seen of the Birdy OVAs, there's absolutely none of that. The animation feels a lot more natural.

Doesn't surprise me. Only reason Decode got two seasons was because both were ordered at the same time and S2 was already in production when S1 was airing.

He's one of the best examples of minimalist character design I've seen. He manges to be impressive just by being there in a business suit while monsters and aliens get exited all around the place.
Plus I like his "strict but fair dad" look.
