You've been told wrong, but Lady M is this shadowy figure whose been pulling strings behind the scenes, and has especially been interested in the development of music and music related weaponry and power since the end of the Zent/Human war, founding the idol group Walkure (Delta's idorus)

Lady M also reappeared when a transmission from Megaroad-1 was intercepted.

It hasn't been revealed who Lady M is yet, with one episode left to go in Delta, so this is just my personal suspicion

I also implore you to at least give Macross another chance, and watch Plus, or Macross 7 if you're feeling really adventurous

It IS really good. It's not meant as a standalone movie (even if it can somewhat works if you're too slazy to watch SDF). It's supposed to be an epic retelling of the OG Macross, ten times more intense. And as much as I hate to admit it I found it absolutely beautiful and it made me shed a few tears, especially the scenes between Hikaru and Misa in the Protoculture city and the final battle. .

Not sure what you don't get to say that "wha?" is there. Oh, and Alto was really, really obviously in to Sheryl the whole time. He was pretty slow to admit it to himself, but even early in the show the attraction is obvious. They're dating by about episode 21. They're even implied to have sex. Not sure how he can show more interest than that. And no shit he showed no interest in Ranka, given that he had no interest romantically to show.
