Establishing the nature of the Titans-EF dynamic as well as Bright's place in the post-OYW pecking order.
The Titans look down on the EF rank and file constantly and expect the EF to kiss their ass and swear it's ice cream.
They even kind of explain the nature of this particular incident within the scene - Bright told off a high ranking Titans commander and went so far as to compare his tactics to Zeon. So now you have (to them) a peon mouthing off to the boss and comparing him to their direct enemy. Given the heavy-handed nature of the Titans, naturally their first answer is 'stomp this fucker'

There was a whole bunch of issues snowballing there. He already had a hate-on for the Titans even before the fight with Jerid. That incident just turned the whole thing into the ol' Alan Moore 'One bad day' rule.

Also, he didn't actually get in it just to fuck with that MP. He didn't even know the guy was there until he was already in the thing and went "Hey, it's that guy! How do you like me now?"

It was still a reckless teenager move, but it wasn't his entire MO as a lot of people make it out to be. By that point, fucking with the MP was just the icing on the cake.
