Why did the Real Robot Revolution line fail?

I like it, it was the only way to get MGs of other Real Robots, and I was waiting for the R3 of Dragonar too, Billbine even

Do you they should kept naming it MG instead of R3? or non-Gundam MGs are doomed, like Dunbine and Patlabor?

Do you think other Sunrise Real Robots has a new chance with the RE:100
>>
>Why did the Real Robot Revolution line fail?

not enough v-fins and monoeyes for the average Bandai model kit customer

A bit of this, and mostly the series not being as popular as Gundam or other Bandai series and them thinking it wasn't worth it.

Nope.

Your best bet would be the Super Minipla series of candy toy kits and unless you're a gunota, want a kit of a FotM series or some reissue of old as fuck shit then Bandai actually has not really that much to offer to you, kit-wise.
>>
>>14725314
Bandai trying to make money on a 30+ year old property.

Unless you are Gundam or Star Wars, franchises that keep putting out material for younger generations, all you are going to get to buy this stuff is nostalgic middle age men and a few millenials going through a retro phase. Not a big audience.
>>
>>14725314
Most of them were pretty expensive, and the designs were fairly obscure. It also made no sense to choose the midseason upgrades over the original more iconic designs.

That being said, the L-Gaim Mk-II solidified my belief that Bandai could make amazing FSS kits if given the license. If only.
>>
>>14726009
I wish Nagano didn't detest Bandais model division for trying to actually improve the kits beyond cement, paint, and pinning if you're going into resin.
>>
>>14726009
I'd say L-Gaim Mark II is more iconic than original L-Gaim, but you may be right on Gallier vs Xabungle

What's that supposed to be? Prowler?
>>
>>14726245
I remember reading a quote from Nagano about how he hated how little effort has to be put into Bandai kits and that he wanted them to all be unique or something which is why he gave the license to WAVE and Volks.

>>14726252

Well VOLKS has done a great job with the license, and WAVE's FSS kits aren't that bad either, so it wasn't a mistake on his part IMO.
>>
>>14726252
Oh, so it was another one of his "I don't people to enjoy my works" shitfit.
>>
>>14726268
More like he didn't want to lump FSS in with the Gundam crowd.

He said Bandai kits were too toyetic and focused too much on articulation and gimmicks as opposed to actual detail and design. There's a lot of truth to that, especially with modern MG's and their pathetic frames.
>>
>>14726297
Like Nagano could do better.
>>
>>14726297
Except modern MGs look even better than old ones. Nagano was just being a pretentious fag again.

FSS has always blown away Gundam kits when it comes to detail, especially internals. Not even the best PG or MG or RG can match it. And considering how newer MGs place even less emphasis on detailed inner frames, it's a lost cause for Bandai.

>>14726566
On the outside, yes. But internally there's nothing there like >>14726297

MG AGE1 has a exceptionally awful frame though, there are MGs with decent frames.

It is hard to compete with Volk's IMS Mirage though. That thing's price is fully justified, what a piece of work!

>Bandai kits were too toyetic and focused too much on articulation and gimmicks as opposed to actual detail and design
Does Nagano just hate fun? Part of why gundam is popular is because the kits you build with your own hands are reasonably tough and fun as fuck to pose, customize and make dioramas with.
There's should have been a Build Fighters series when Nagano was still working on Gundam. He'd then see Gunpla is freedom, and then he'd take a hobby knife to etch his gunpla with autistic detail and scratchbuild incredibly ornate ornamental gubbinz.

Yeah, the 2.0 era of kits from 2006-2008 had the best inner frames by far. Afterward though Bandai just stopped caring for internal detail. Just compare the inner frames of the old MG Hi-Nu to the Ver Ka,or the Zaku 2.0 to the Marasai. The AGE-1 frame detail is the norm nowadays, unfortunately.

On the flip side, FSS kits are literally statues, though I suppose that's what Nagano wants.
>>
>>14726252
You mean that fake quote that was actually a Miyazaki quote or something?
>>
>>14727370

Well, the purposes are kind of (more like extremely) different though as FSS model kits (like most other non-Bandai scale kits) are meant to be built for displaying unlike Bandai's actionfiguremodelkits that you CAN play with if you really want to
>>
>>14727387
Honestly after having built a mk2.0, I never want to see that autistic level of detail in a MG ever again. Fucking cloth tubing should be a PG thing, not a MG thing.

I get it, you wanted to bring PG level quality to the 1/100 scale, but FUCK CUTTING THAT CLOTH TUBING.

I think the simpler inner frames are just because people care less about what's on the inside and more on the outside. How many people actually remove the armor of an MG they've built? The MG Gyan has an awesome inner frame but nobody ever buys that kit because the rest of it is boring. Meanwhile, newer MGs like Freedom 2.0 don't even have full inner frames.

FSS designs in general have to have more detailed internals because more of it is exposed. Kind of like the IBO kits, which have more detailed inner frames than modern MG's but lack the same level of functionality and engineering.

Really detailed inner frames just ended up becoming more trouble than they were worth, unfortunately. Even the PG line doesn't bother anymore because the main audience for gunpla cares far more about articulation and stability than having a cool inner skeleton. Nowadays inner frames are used to promote parts separation more than anything.

With that said, whenever you have a design that's supposed to have stuff exposed Bandai usually doesn't skimp out. Hyaku Shiki 2.0's legs are a good example.

Same with the recent IBO 1/100 kits.

Hahaha, what? We need to summon some of the guys from the gunpla thread so we can join in merry laughter at your expense!

Are you actually saying that modern MG consistently pay more attention to lore and frame detail than ones from 5 or ten years ago?

Because one need not look further than the debacle that is the Gundam 3.0 to know you're spewing concentrated bullshit from that anus you call your mouth.
>>
>>14725314
Seems like Bandai always has a budget to throw at experimental lines like R3, Mecha Collection, Figurise, Star wars, etc. They will probably come up with something eventually.

To add to >>14727400, FSS doesn't focus on customization and mods like Gundam. Basically everything has to follow the lineart. It's the total opposite of something like Build Fighters.

It actually does matter in that really boring inner frames are, well, boring to build.

Let me tell you, building the five Wing EW kits was soul killing since four of them were the exact same fucking build.
