***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== ACE PILOT GROUP BUILD ==

Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

Prizes include:
>1st Place: Any HG kit under $25 + an Action Base 2
>2nd Place: Any HG kit under $15
>3rd Place: An Action Base 2
(Note: Shipping is to USA and Canada only)

Group build ends on October 31st, get building!

Am I a bad person for not liking the Beargguy?
Maybe I'm just a grognard but I feel like it's just so outlandish and out of place.
>>
>>14723057

The Acguy was always out of place. It was all bulbous with stub limbs. Making it into a gruesome teddy bear in Beginning G was clever. Making it into a cutesy toy in BF1 was the natural evolution of the concept. I even like the Petit Beargguys.

But Sunrise takes a good thing, and just whores it out, again and again.

I don't mind the Beginning G Beargguy actually, it's basically a Custom [Acguy]. It's once the Beargguy becomes all toyish and looks like its own unique suit that I take issue with it.

Hey guys should I get a RE1/100 Gundam MkIII or Gerbera?
>>
What I am supposed to do if I mess up putting on a sticker? Kill myself?
>>
>>14723369
Ouch. That's typically caused by moisture in the air. Some of the primer reacted and solidified before it makes contact with the plastic surface. The small clumps then stick on contact with the surface, giving a thick and rough surface.

Either sand it very carefully, or strip and reprime.
>>
>>14723369

Just purchased RG Qan(t). What's the thing you're supposed to do with these kits regarding the joints. You're supposed to move them around or something right?
>>
>>14723391
Ye. Stickers look 'presentable' if the application goes completely perfectly and you topcoat well, but if the adhesive side even touches the plastic and comes off, then toss it and try another.

Or just order waterslides and
>>
>>14723429

800 going up to 1200 grit. WETSAND.

I forgot what grit equivalent does Magic Eraser/Melamine sponge correspond to.
>>
>>14723501
Hmm..

>When a Magic Eraser gets wet, its abrasiveness is the equivalent of 3000 to 5000 grit sandpaper, depending on how hard you scrub. That might not sound very rough, but on car paint the damage could be severe.

>Worse, if you have a heavy hand and go to town with a bone dry Magic Eraser, it would be similar to using 800 grit sandpaper.
>>
>>14723456
Another thing you can try is adjusting distance.

Get a couple plastic spoons on a nice night and line them up. Spray them with a quick pass of primer at different distances, closer and further. Find the distance where it doesn't dry with the rough texture and go with that.

Whats the worst fuck up you've ever done building a gunpla?

When I was attempting to spray paint for the first time to my MG Heavyarms I forgot to mask the joints so it was stiff as fuck and eventually I broke some.
>>
>>14723561

I was building a Frame Arms Girl and then I dropped it and one of the arm pegs broke off inside of the arm. I tried to pin it but had no wire so I had to use a toothpick. The fit wasn't as good as it could have been, because I had to whittle the toothpick down.

Long story short it looks good but range of movement is limited.
>>
>>14723561
Flat out breaking stuff because I wasn't careful enough.

Unrelated(or related if I fuck up even further), I painted some parts a few hours ago with Tamiya acrylics, the pieces are all dry now, can I gloss coat them with Tamiya TS-13 clear, or will it fuck up if I don't let it sit for a few days and cure?

"oh yeah that's a batman ver Nolan" or whatever

>what went through your mind to justify this.

It became about learning/trying all the introductory build/custom techniques starting with extra smaller armor panels (from the MG 2.0 kit) and up through the custom electronics programming. This was my second kit and the world was my oyster, so I started and didn't stop. On and off now for a couple years.

Was doing this around the time of Gundam Build Fighters, the first Gundam show I'd ever seen, so the customization element felt more important than really nailing a canon design well.

Lastly, was using it to battle other gunpla builders on a subreddit (not sure if naming it is spamming?) and under the early rules, more dakka = better dakka. That meta had to be revised for obvious reasons. :)

The verniers make the AMBAC system that mobile suits were originally designed to utilize redundant. The massive backpack it has would probably change it's center of mass too much, also making AMBAC useless.
Why the fuck would they design a mobile suit that uses psycho reuse systems, and then overburden it with a bunch of useless shit? Why does it have 4 fucking rocket launchers instead of just carrying ammunition? If it was designed to be used by non-newtype pilots, why does it have a bunch of extra arms and shit that regular pilots wouldn't be able to use. even with the psycho reuse system?
>but anon, I was asking in aesthetic terms
it looks stupid. With all the rocket-launchers and shit on it's backpack, it's backpack just looks like a cluttered hunk of plastic, save for the big rocket/fueltanks.
The backpack is so fucking big that it looks like the zaku is tacked on to the backpack, not the other way around.
And it has verniers fucking everywhere. Too many fucking verniers.

Right? The Build Fighters series in particular (but all of them really) are great toy commercials and I ain't even mad. Sounds like the reverse effect is true too.

My first was an MG Delta Plus that just looked neat in the Disney giftshop Mitsukoshi at Epcot (in 2010?). As it turns out there are cheaper ways to fuel a plastic crack addiction. Got the PG visiting family in Osaka.

BFTry hurts my soul, but I'm sure that's been discussed to absolute death around here previously. I will always love GM Cardigan though.

I'm still hoping for the other suits that were developed between the gouf and Dom. This Dom prototype has the chest variation of one of the gouf prototype machines. And a zaku 2 for when testing it's space capabilities apparently. The head is from your high mobility I think? The only thing is I hope they redesign the ms-08a so it's legs and feet feel more proportional.

You'll see this kind of stuff every GBWC. The whole idea is to show off your skill by attaching more and more and more and more well built and well painted parts.

Despite how cluttered these builds end up being, there's a chance that they can get away with an award by earning tons of points from sheer difficulty of construction. Pic attached is the 2012 champion.

The souls of these Gunpla are weighed down by their own gravity.

The articulation rocked for its time, I've built 4 so far and trying to customize some now but when compared to the ez8 or even this gm it suffers. The shoulder and torso connection breaks up the mold giving a unsightly gap for sake of articulation. The torso is bulky and is limited in articulation where as the stomach and hips are vastly improved on the ez8. The proportions are different on ez8 then ground gundam which is bulkier and more top heavy feeling.

When when side by side the heights should be nearly identical as well as the frames and any armor that wasn't swapped. Instead it's shorter with thicker limbs fatter head etc. The hips being the old ball joint limit how well you can pull off its kneeling pose, how far the legs can splay as well as rotate. It's not in need as much as the earliest kits but as a lead gundam who's dated compared to the to the two units that share frames it needs TLC.

That and with blue destiny being a big part of missing link, a new manga and slight redesign that gives it more powerful overall style it could go for one to, maybe entice a hguc efreet custom out of them. Also slave wraith.

You're right, I don't get it. Shadows don't land on pieces like that, especially the legs. If anything, it should be the inverse, where the top of each armour segment is dark due to the shadow cast on it from the piece above it.
Regardless, it looks pretty shit right now. If it looks good in the end, I'll eat my words

Don't listen to them, Anon. I'm assuming you're going to be painting over this? If you do it in light coats and not cover up the work you did, you should be just fine.

Preshading can help darken recessed areas and give your kit a much more worn look. I would also save any weathering untill after you painted a basecoat, applied any decals if you have any, and hit it with some sort of matte finish before you move onto any chipping.

Should I just strip this or do you think it looks like good weathering?
>>
>>14726172
Way too heavy, I would strip and go lighter, or try to lightly spray some of the base coat around the inside of the edge.
>>
>>14726172
Two on the left look fine, but the chest is a bit much.
>>
>>14726172

Looks ok as for an outline. I've seen people do a similar technique by rubbing a white colored pencil over the edges to create that effect.

If you're looking for a more worn and chipped look, try drybrushing the original color over that to break it up a bit.

I love it personally the more I look at it

The transient is one of my favourite designs to come out of GBF and I love me some purple with either white or black as the primary

I think the excess actually works in its favour, though I might modify it a bit if I pick one up. My backlog is huge as it is or it'd be an instant buy for me.

How are the Pour Type Gundam markers compared to the Fine Point? Do they get into the thinner lines that the fine points need a bit of finagling to get them to line more than the edges? Any alternatives?

Is there usually a noticable quality difference between HG and MG or is it just size?

MGs are a higher overall quality than HGs, some moreso than others. There are some 1/100 no-grades like Barbatos that are basically upscaled HGs and are, as a result, cheaper than MGs

In terms of value kits all the revives, all the Origin kits bar shitty gundam local type, really anything from IBO, and now that I think about it a lot of protagonist suits are pretty cheap. I.E. build burning, X, F-91, and others.

Possibly, kinda wondering if their isn't a bits market for Gunpla...
I mean, I'm pretty sure there's one for Warhammer 40k somewhere.

Are you stupid? The Zeta one is the regular. The Unicorn one is the one that says Unicorn ver on the box.

>Are you stupid? The Zeta one is the regular. The Unicorn one is the one that says Unicorn ver on the box.
Actually the regular Unicorn Nemo came FIRST, HGUC #140.
The current Zeta version released the following year, as HGUC #150, with the Unicorn Desert Colors coming in at #164.

regular, a. (of a structure or arrangement) arranged in or constituting a symmetrical or harmonious pattern.

The regular Nemo is the first Nemo which was from Zeta. That's why it doesn't say "Zeta ver." on the box it just says Nemo. What you're correctly referring to is the 'first' not the 'regular.'
>>
>>14728331
The unicorn version is symmetrical though. So they're both regular.

Still, really glad this is all done, it certainly took me long enough. Now I get to spend as much time on an AGE 2...

Looking over the parts this looks solid as hell, the plastic quality is roughly koto level, if a little under it.
Definitely worth the price paid to Sam for it, can't wait to get my Qant and to build it all up now. But I have to wait because I've still got other kits to finish before I can buy more.

If the Gouf and Ramba Ral weren't popular we wouldn't have gotten Ral as a character in Build Fighters with the Gouf R35, then the Revive Gouf. He wouldn't be such a prominent character in Origin with a Proto-Gouf and Ral's Zaku I. And then there's the fact that the MG Gouf 2.0 exists, and they obviously put a lot of work into it.

The only reason there isn't an RG Gouf is because RG in general is really niche. 1/144 HGs keep getting better and better, and are cheaper. The MG2.0 is already really good and the Revive Gouf is fantastic and just came out. There's no reason to make an RG Gouf now.

Seriously, Gouffags need to stop crying.

I loved beginning G but I swear, that OVA is literally /GB/'s fucking soul or something.

That being said, it has a good point, I remember my first kit being a huge, nub filled mess... thankfully I'm getting better after a little research and picking up some various files and a good hobby knife.

Hopefully I can get some pictures of my collection soon-ish, and replace some of the rougher models in my collection before that time. Sad part is I have an international move coming up in a few months, gonna have to donate my builds to a good home and start over soon.

How do I into stickers? Have an HG Origin Gouf Demonstrator, one of the sticker sheets is light green. Trying to put on a mono-eye. Had a rough time with my first one (A zaku, also my first gunpla ever). Links in OP weren't terribly specific unless I missed something.

It took me a bit of experimentation to find what works best, but it's generally easy to get stickers off the sheet and get good placement on the model when you use good toothpicks that end in a sharp point.
>>
>>14729427
Tweezers/knife, and dip the sticker in water
>>
>>14729360
It's an x-acto knife, wouldn't it just completely slice through the denim if you applied any pressure at all?
>>
>>14729464
I think you overestimate the sharpness of the blade/the durability of denim. I've taken a brand new x-acto brand #11 and sliced off nubs using my finger as the cutting board (wearing the thimble of course), and neither have been worse for wear.
I can take a video of this later when I get home if anyone is interested.

I've heard about the stickers, but isn't the issue with the gun the fact that the Unicorn (Non-Desart) version uses the GM Rifle?

What's the best recommended way to sharpen the shoulder spikes? I tried sanding but it didn't come out that great and it's a bit uneven.
>>
>>14730016
put it on a drill bit so that the spike is always spinning without wobbling then while it's spinning at 10000000 RPM just put a sanding stick near it. you'll have it sharp in seconds.

That's what I've been trying to pry out of them, the Desart version is nearly identical to the other two, basically coming with the weapons from both.
