I've begun the long and arduous task of trying to collect every single SRW game

After I finish getting all the PS3 and PSP games up here I think I'll start on the 3DS and DS ones next

I have a feeling getting in-box copies of the GBA and GB games will be the hardest part

Does anyone think that recent Super Robot Wars games have been relying on opening themes too much for battle music? Maybe this trend has reversed lately, but in the last few I played I remember seeing a bunch of shows that I thought didn't really have suitable OPs for battle music or attempts at remixing them into more aggressive songs.

I feel like the practice of using the rest of the OST or heavily remixing the OP has kind of died down in the franchise.

I played Overworld at 250% framerate with no sound so I can't comment, and for Z3 I ended up replacing about 80% of the music that plays with custom music so anything Z3 did to Z2's music just goes over my head.

See, stuff like that makes me think that the AMR2 thing was intentionally done this way. They had almost 10 years and numerous open demos and betas of the game and yet only hit them with the C&D when it came out. It honestly gives me the impression that Nintendo wanted the game to flourish but simply waited for a point to defend it when the game could be available to everyone and they could still defend their IPs if they needed to. But that's just my conspiracy theory, who knows.

On Ebay, they currently have a boxed copy of SRW 1 starting bid of 1 dollar, and a complete set of GBA games for about $120, or individually for 15-20 a piece. PS2 games are about 15-20 bucks a piece as well. Hardest one to find will be an in box copy of Compact 3 though. Its $145 bucks.

ZZ Activates is great though and should be in more. I used in in OE for the Waverider Crash too, which helps a lot.

Well Raideen hasn't had any of its alternate versions show up, as far as I know.

And I imagine they don't because the most "popular" version of Jeeg and Gaiking made it into SRW before their alternate versions so people are satisfied and take it as a change of pace, whereas for Tetsujin the original design is more iconic but hasn't made it in and probably won't be for a long time.

GC is a game that frequently enjoys taking people who aren't actually playing well and kicking their teeth in. In its final battle, midway through killing Hellruga - which is a multi turn thing thanks to some regen stuff at the end of a fairly long stage where you have to kill Regina as well - multiple Ordynes spawn in a circle around him. I haven't been grinding for cash because I'm not a dirty casual, and I didn't even know about pilot/mech abilities let alone how they worked until stage 27 so I wasn't able to give anyone Funds+

That explains it. Without an S terrain you need to be maxed-out. OGMD does S+A=S, so it's actually worth giving out S terrains as much as you can for people who don't have them.

Also, it'd help if you kept him within a battleship leadership aura provided it was level 3 minimum. The AI in OGMD won't pathologically go after battleships if they're behind your other units like in the DS/3DS games due to their high HP, so keeping them near the front for the leadership aura helps.

The problem with VR is that at the end of the day is yet another meaningless gimmick.
So what if I can look around a FPS or RPG in first person? They're still run of the mill FPSs or RPGs with run of the mill mechanics and if you're lucky, some built in gimmick that only amounts to a temporary novelty in control scheme, but now I have another degree of "immersion", cool beans.

360 view of a game is not something to be tossed away lightly, it actually is super immersive and cool. VR might be expensive right now, but so is all new technology. A lot of them got into it to make games because they like games, so they studied how to make games and have games entirely as a reference.

This kinda runs against how, back in the day, a lot of people got into the industry because they wanted to work in a field that was creative but lacked the skills or talent for it.

It gets mentioned a lot, but Yoshiyuki Tomino wanted (and I think he still says he'd love to) work in the film industry. A lot of his background comes from film and this is very obvious in a lot of his early works.

A more relevant (and obvious) example is Hideo Kojima. He, too, wanted to work in films, but ended up in the game industry.

That's not to say that anyone who uses games entirely as a reference point is doomed to create bad games, but I think people need to experience more.

Back when I used to make recommendation threads, I always told people to try and expand beyond just the stuff everyone talks about. It helps you break out of your rut, honestly.

VR doesn't magically make games better on fundamental game design level, it's just a input/output gimmick, like touch controls.
TES will still suck balls with VR because the fundamental mechanics and game design are garbage, what good is there in making me see stuff through a "direct" first person view and maybe, just maybe let me grab a few objects, and I'm really being optimistic here, and let me throw them, when the game has shitty mechanics, NPCs with shitty routines and scripts and ?
This isn't something like the jump from 2D to 3D, it's a niche that has little to no bearing on 90% of the games out there and has still a lot of potential problems that will require time and money that could be poured in simply making better games.
Then again, you're right, you have to begin somewhere if you want things to be good, but I'm still very skeptical of the whole VR business, call me a cranky old faggot, you're probably right.

I don't think the problem is what people wanted to work on, I think the problem lies in what people want to actually do.

Take the recent wave of old guard otaku envious of Shinkai/Anno latest works, they all bitch and moan that no matter what they do they can't be as good or successful as those two, but isn't the problem the fact that they're trying to be someone they're not? Most of them cling to the ideal of not being someone else, what is it they truly want to do themselves?
The same can be applied to videogames, and really anything in creative fields, and is precisely what plagues most of the pop culture, too many references, too many people doing the very same thing hoping to make a big hit somehow because someone did before them, I too did the same mistake.

Kinda nostalgic, but at the same time I guess you can see why "Use Object on everything because you can't figure out what drugs the puzzle designers were on" style of Adventure gameplay went out of style.

Also the game is goofy as hell and it's kinda strange trying to reconcile the characters portrayed here with what would eventually become of them in the future.
